Empire: Discussion Thread

Decades, no. One dumb man can't set back race relations like that. But has it set back future hate crime victims in terms of being believed and heard and protected, and made them even more vulnerable to smears from the right for generations? Yes, IMO.

Wendy’s back and weighing in, as Jussie was a guest on her show a while ago. (Her comments are not that insightful, but I thought *someone* might be interested.)

16 felony counts? Damn. I truly don't know what's right in this case.  It's not mine to decide, but I won't wish a harsh sentence on him.

Let's see how much time he gets compared to Manafort.

That's a lot  of felony charges. I wonder how much time he may end up serving.

Also, here is another unfortunate development that is connected to this story. Apparently dozen of hospital workers, including nurses were accused of looking at Jussie's hospital records and have been fired. At least one of them is saying they are innocent and that they simply glanced at his information while looking for another's patients information.

They are appealing the termination and believe that other hospital workers for were let go for the same reason. It's unfortunate if anybody that is innocent may have gotten fired due those accusations:

Northwestern don't play and they did the right thing.  If it's not your patient, you don't glance.  If your eyes come across it, no biggie, but no one got fired because their eyes just glanced by accident.

I hope the sentence is appropriate because Jussie was wrong on so many levels.  He put lives in danger.

Me too, but I don't know what appropriate is in this case.  His fame muddies the water, so I hope he gets a judge who can see clearly and is unbiased. Up thread there was an article where an attorney was talking about how people lie to the police all the time.  Specifically in cases where they crash their car while DUI and then claim someone else stole it. They don't generally go to prison for it.

I think he needs to pay for the actual crimes that were committed, but not pay legally for the moral and social wrongs he did.  He should pay for those by losing social standing/work/money. Anyway, that's just how I see it.

These folks have been breaking a lot of the Jussie stories, and they are pissed they’re not getting credit.

Meanwhile...

If ratings were down, then that's probably because enough remain sickened by Jussie's actions to stay away from the show.
