Thanks @robbwolff and @Khan! I’m just glad my question was able to be addressed while the crazy lady in the corner was screaming into her megaphone about 40 year old memoirs!

from Psychology Today

Most chronically passive-aggressive individuals have four common characteristics:

  1. They’re unreasonable to deal with.
  2. They’re uncomfortable to experience.
  3. They rarely express their hostility directly.
  4. They repeat their subterfuge behavior over time.

1. Don’t Overreact. Reduce Personalization and Misunderstanding.

2. Keep Your Distance Whenever Possible.

3. Don’t Try to Change Them.

4. Don’t Get Sucked In. Avoid Tit for Tat.

Was 02/84 on of those rare to find magazines?

Oh wow Albert. I never even noticed that. I don’t have the 02/84 ratings. Good catch.

It's a long time ago, but I believe the Entertainment Tonight story played up the popularity of the Beth/Lujack pairing and cited it for the increase in GL's ratings. As for Tony and Genie, they had already been gone from GH for about 6 to 7 months when GL overtook GH in the ratings. Genie returned at the end of 1983 to tie up the Luke/Laura story. I think they were gone by year's end.

I love that the press and the industry look at "one" thing as if it was the magic ingredient and not look past it. The show had Beth and Lujack but it was a multigenerational ensemble show about 5 closely entwined families. Nobody "took" over...yes, even Reva in her hey day. Long was on fire just introducing iconic character after iconic characters. Its funny that Kobe said "Not yet" as the ratings dropped soon with the cast and focus changes.

Did AW ever gain any ground at all at this time? Every monthly rating posted, it's pretty much in the same place or has the same rating.

@VanessaReardon 1986 will see Y&R getting closer to #1. That year was so good, except for the permanent arrival of Cricket who proceeded to eat the show for the remainder of the decade.

Yowsers, the top half all slipped this week, and Another World is only 0.2 away from ATWT.  They actually come off as a strong contender here.
