What Direction does DAYS go now?

I feel bad for the just fired writers. The feel of the show was very old school, lots of simple family drama, except for Alamania, but I understand why that kind of writing doesn't appeal to most current daytime fans. Those great classic stories from the 60s and 70s wouldn't work today. Too slow and too boring for today's soap viewers.

Anyway, it seems like camp, exaggerated story telling, shirtless guys, and winks to the audience is what really works these days. Hell, Days wrote the book on that in the 90s, so bring it back and call it Days 3.0. So here are my ideas:

- A producer wants to film the Dr. Marlena Evans story. An over the top producer comes to town and Horton Square becomes a backlot for a full scale production with cheesy actors and over the top scenes. As a publicity stunt, the producer wants to recreate the Salem Strangler. Unfortunately for the producer, someone else gets the same idea and wants to recreate those killings for real. So a new Salem Strangler returns to Salem and starts strangling some of the dead weight in the cast. Gabby, Melanie, Daniel, and Ian.

-I would turn Madison into a Kristenesque character. Brady is just as dumb and hot as his father, so why not have him bamboozled by Madison. Maybe Chloe could return and Brady realizes that she is his true love. Madison snaps and the rest of the story writes itself.

-Have Jack buy the Spectator and make him a reporter again. Pair him with Billie.

-Give Jennifer DID with three alters. One is Alice, a kindly but tough grandmother type. One is Laura, a hard as nails no nonsense shrink. FInally, there's Rosie, a two bit good time girl who hangs out at the Cheatin' Heart hooking up with Merchant Marines.

I think a story about Marlena making a movie could be great, although I'd use it to bring up the Sam story again.

Jack as a reporter would also be great.

I have seen so little of the 70's DAYS but what I have seen has a good sprinkling of romance and longing and warmth, and heart. That's what hooks people. Where is that now? The romance just seemed like cheesy porn.

I love these ideas! I had a similiar idea where it's almost the 10 Anniversay of the Salem Serial Killer so there's a book about it that comes out that retells the entire story. So then someone decides to redo the killings and kill off the dead weight - the storyline would be called the Copycat Killer (CCK). Don't know who the killer will be yet, maybe Marlena again (see 4 Marlenas below).

Those alters of Jen sounds fun though the idea of Jen being sexually abused when she was younger digusts me. There's another way to get alters right? You just have to be heavily traumatized and it doesn't have to be sexual?

I agree about turning Madison into a Kristenesque character because Sarah Brown is very type cast - she can only play the bad girl. If she plays a good girl, you're just wasting her.

I had a 4 Marlenas storyline that leads to Marlena being on trial for Stefano's murder. It involved the 4 Marlena clones that Stefano sent out during the Possession.

And another idea is turning Dan into a villain who switches Jen's baby when he finds out it belongs to Jack, and makes everyone think the baby is his.

The last crazy storyline is EJ becomes obssessed with Sami after Sami rejects him again - he thinks they're getting close again but that's only one sided. Sami still loves Rafe. After EJ "dies" when the truth about the embezzlement comes out - John is responsible for the "death" which enrages Stefano. Anyway, now that EJ is dead, he can lurk around in the background and he plots to kidnap Sami. Just in 1997 when Stefano made everyone think Marlena was dead (though John didn't believe it), EJ makes everyone think Sami is dead (though Rafe doesn't believe it). So now EJ has Sami and he tries everything to win over Sami and when that doesn't work, he decides to erase Sami's memory (by this time, Stefano knows that EJ is alive and he helps EJ with this since he knows a thing or two about erasing memories) to make her forget Rafe. So as Rafe gets closer and closer to finding Sami, EJ gets desperate again and decides to create a Sami-lookalike who has "amnesia". Rafe saves "Sami" from an explosion or something. We wouldn't know it's not Sami until a little while longer. But when the real Sami is rescued, fake-Sami becomes obssessed with Rafe. That's all I got for now! LOL

So with those story ideas in mind, I think the direction DAYS to go is with the big, outlandish, crazy, over the top storylines that will get people talking. But the key is having a long term story and for those stories to not get derailed after a few weeks or months - like the way M&D were treated.

You can absolutely get it simply from a general trauma. Wasn't Viki on OLTL's original cause of her DID because of something non-sexual? I don't know what the reason was now, but I'm not sure it was retconned in the 80s when it became Viki walking in on Victor's affair with Irene. Anyone confirm this? Regardless, there is easily a way to make it non-sexual abuse.

The original reason was that Viki was damaged because Victor wanted a son and treated her in a masculine way. Then in the 80's they claimed it was down to her seeing him in bed with her college roommate.

I'm not sure what reason was given in the 60s, but at some point it was explained that Viki 'split' when she saw her father Victor in bed with her friend Irene. It was rewritten in the 90s that Victor molested here.

Eden on Santa Barbara got DID when she saw Lionel and Sophia having sex.

Anyway, it has to be some great trauma. Anything could have happened to Jennifer during Laura's crazy days when Jen was a child.

If it's Corday who insists on doing storyline rehashes, let's have Tomlin write a Salem flash flood and have everyone have to live in the DiMera mansion. XD

But in all seriousness, I don't know that I would want another serial killer storyline, although the story you guys have suggested about the movie sounds pretty good. An umbrella storyline that sees the community come together like a flood would be a good way to flesh out the cast, though I really can't think of anything that could really do it. A huge fire during a party at Chez Rouge? I dunno. Maybe they'll just do like Agnes Nixon did with the Gregory family on AW and just throw them on a train that crashes.

Yeah, that and Jessica being molested is where I associate DID with sexual abuse. I don't think I've seen any other DID storyline that didn't involved sexual abuse.

I wouldn't want to see Jen blaming Laura for her DID though. Those could be great dramatic scenes but I wouldn't "enjoy" watching it.

Or how about Tomlin/Whitesell rehashing Terror Island from Sunset Beach! The Smith Island killer! LOL

Susan Hunter and Toups, you guys have some amazing ideas! I would be hooked right now if that were happening!

Suan Hunter- I love the idea of bringing Madison down the path of Kristen! Sarah Brown would be perfect to play that storyline and bringing Chloe and BRady into it sounds even better.

And a copycat killer! That sounds fun and gives a new twist to the serial killer stories since DAYS has done it so many times.

Toups- I have always wanted DAYS to revisit those clones that Stefano made of Marlena. And has Marlena ever stood trial for murder? That would also be new and fun. And Bill Horton (he's a lawyer right?) could return to defend her.

And I love making Daniel a villain and switching Jennifer's baby! And then having EJ fake Sami's death! This all sounds so exciting and FUN, something the show needs right now. It's outrageous but if they play it right, it can work! I am not sure if you were kidding or not, but the Smith Island Killer also sounds intriguing.

I wish you two were head writing the show now.

That's how it seems for all shows. Cheeky dialogue, winks to the audience, not taking themselves too seriously, etc. I wish there was more than just one show out there ("REVENGE"!) that took themselves dead-seriously as a dramatic soap opera.

I like this idea. GL did this with Reva, but it was during their final Peapack days so really, who was watchin'? ;)
