'DAYS' TIES FOR DAYTIME'S #1 SPOT WITH ITS TOP-RATED WEEK IN EIGHT MONTHS

'PASSIONS' MATCHES ITS HIGHEST WOMEN 18-49 RESULT IN 10 MONTHS

NBC'S ROSE PARADE COVERAGE JUMPS 35 PERCENT OVER YEAR-AGO VIEWERSHIP

BURBANK, Calif. ? January 12, 2006 ? NBC's "Days of our Lives" has delivered its highest-rated week among women 18-49 in eight months while "Passions" has matched its highest rating in 10 months, leading NBC Daytime to a tie for #1 for the week of Jan. 2-6 among women 18-49. "Days" tied for #1 as the week's top-rated daytime series among women 18-49, its highest rank in five weeks.

NBC was #1 outright for the week in the women 18-34 category, marking the network's 312th consecutive weeklong victory in this valuable demographic. "Days" and "Passions" are the #1 and #2 ranked daytime series for the week and season among women 18-34.

For the week, "Days" (2.1 rating, 12 share among women 18-49, 2.3/14 among women 18-34) tied for #1 among women 18-49 and was #1 outright among women 18-34, marking the 535th time in 543 weeks "Days" has topped the women 18-34 list (including ties). Among women 18-49, this was the highest-rated week for "Days" since last April 25-29.

For the week of Jan. 2-6, "Passions" (1.6/9 among women 18-49, 1.9/11 among women 18-34) tied for #6 in the women 18-49 race and was #2 in the women 18-34 category. Among women 18-49, this was the highest-rated week for "Passions" since Oct. 24-28 and equaled its highest since last Feb. 28-March 4.

NBC Daytime's Jan. 2-6 average 1.8 rating among women 18-49 is its highest since the week of Oct. 24-28 and matches its highest since April 25-29.

Last week's Monday telecasts of regular daytime programs were either preempted or considered specials and not included in weeklong averages. Ratings are live plus same day unless otherwise indicated.

On Monday Jan. 2, NBC's 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. ET coverage of the "117th Tournament of Roses Parade" (1.5/7 in adults 18-49, 6.6 million total viewers) improved on results of one year earlier by 25 percent in adult 18-49 rating and by 35 percent in total viewers. NBC's 90-minute telecast out-rated ABC's two hours of coverage (1.3/6 in 18-49, 5.8 million viewers overall) by a 15 percent margin in adult 18-49 rating and by 14 percent in total viewers.

Season to date, NBC Daytime is #2 among women 18-49 and #1 among women 18-34. "Days" is #3 in the women 18-49 race and #1 among women 18-34. For the season, "Passions" is tied for #7 in the women 18-49 category and #2 among women 18-34.

According to in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research for the week of Jan. 2-6, averages among women 18-49 were: NBC a 1.8 rating, 11 share; ABC, 1.8/11; CBS, 1.5/9. Women 18-34 averages for the week were: NBC, 2.1/12; ABC, 1.3/8; CBS, 1.2/7. In total viewers, averages for the week were: CBS, 4.2 million; ABC, 3.2 million; NBC, 3.1 million.

For the season, averages among women 18-49 are: NBC, ABC, 1.7/11; 1.6/10; CBS, 1.5/9. Women 18-34 averages for the season are: NBC, 1.8/11; ABC, 1.2/8; CBS, 1.2/8. In total viewers, averages for the season are: CBS, 4.2 million; ABC, 3.2 million; NBC, 2.7 million.

ABC’s Daytime drama lineup was No. 1 for the 52nd straight week among Women 18-49, ABC’s longest winning streak since the one ending June 2000, with a 2.0 rating and a 10 share -- delivering 1.3 million Women 18-49 for the week of January 2, 2005. The lineup had its best performance in 32 weeks, gaining 6,000 W18-49 versus the prior week. ABC’s Daytime drama lineup outperformed CBS’s by 27% and NBC’s by 9% in actuals among Women 18-49. Among Women 18-34, the drama lineup was up 19% versus the prior week and 6% versus last year (only network up).

ABC’s full Daytime schedule was No. 1 for the 10th straight week (*tied with NBC in rating) among Women 18-49, with a 1.8 rating and an 11 share — delivering an average audience of 1.2 million Women 18-49. ABC outperformed CBS by 19% in actuals among Women 18-49. The lineup was up 1% versus the prior week among Women 18-49. Among Women 18-34, the lineup was up 18% versus the prior week and 2% versus last year (only network up). In the 1-3pm time period (the only two hours NBC programs), ABC was No. 1 for the 10th straight week, with a 1.9 and an 11 share – delivering 1.3 million Women 18-49. ABC is also outperforming NBC by 6%.

“The View” delivered a 1.4 rating and a 9 share – delivering an average audience of 910,000 Women 18-49, up 3% versus the prior week. Among Women 18-34, the talker was up 19% versus the prior week.

ABC had three of the top five shows for the week among Women 18-49:

· “General Hospital” was the No. 1*-ranked program for the 10th straight week, with a 2.1 rating (*tied with “Young & the Restless” and “Days of our Lives”) and a 12 share -- delivering 1.4 million Women 18-49. “General Hospital” beat “Young & the Restless” by 2% among Women 18-49 and outdelivered its time period rival, “Guiding Light,” by 77% for the week, and is outdelivering the drama by 63% season to date among Women 18-49. Among Women 18-34, the drama was up 10% versus the prior week.

· “All My Children” was the No. 4-ranked program, with a 2.0 rating and an 11 share – delivering 1.3 million Women 18-49, posting a 6% gain versus the prior week. This week marked “AMC’s” best numbers since May 2005. Among Women 18-34, the drama was up 31% versus the prior week (most growth) and 10% versus last year, marking the drama’s best numbers in 32 weeks.

· “One Life to Live” was the No. 5-ranked program of the week, with a 1.9 rating and an 11 share – delivering 1.3 million Women 18-49. “OLTL” outperformed time period competitors “As the World Turns” by 36% and “Passions” by 24% for the week. For the season, the drama is outperforming “As the World Turns” by 35% and “Passions” by 31% among Women 18-49. Among Women 18-34, the drama was up 18% versus the prior week and 12% versus last year (most growth).

Season to date, ABC Daytime’s drama lineup ranks No. 1, with a 1.8 rating and an 11 share — delivering 1.2 million Women 18-49 – outperforming CBS by 20% and NBC by 14% in actuals. In the full lineup, ABC Daytime is No. 1 with a 1.7 rating and an 11 share – delivering 1.1 million Women 18-49, outperforming CBS by 16% and NBC by 6% in actuals.

As much as I wish to see DAYS and NBC take a big gain this week, I think we are all going to be let down.

I predict either a small gain for DAYS and PSNS of like +.1, their numbers remaining the same or slight drop for both shows.

I hope I am wrong, but remember that quality doesn't always result in ratings increases.
