Members DAMfan Posted February 12, 2010 Author Members Share Posted February 12, 2010 On February 15, 1961, traveling to World Figure Skating Championships ("Worlds") The U.S. Figure Skating team, parents, coaches and judges--34 among the 62 passengers and crew aboard--left New York on Sabena Airlines flight number 548, crashed before landing in Brussels, en route to Prague. There were no survivors. The 1961 World Figure Skating Championships was cancelled after Sabena Flight 548 crash. This is Laurence Owen's gold-medal-winning freeskate from the 1961 US National Stephanie Westerfield placed 2nd at the 1961 US National Championships in figure skating.
