July 1980 News article

Another long anticipated story development will occur on "Another World." Mitch has learned that he fathered Rachel's expected baby, while Rachel's husband, Mac, is unaware that he couldn't have fathered the child because of drugs given him by his deceased wife, demented Janice. The situation takes a couple of surprising turns in the next few weeks, with mischievous Miranda, who's been eyeing Mac lasciviously, taking matters into her strong and determined hands.

When I see those 60's articles for AW, it makes me wish someone would unearth some more footage from that era. We have some bits of audio and that 1968 wedding, but that's about it. There has to be something sitting in a warehouse, attic, basement, private collection out there. I would really flip if it's color footage.

Listening to those audio bits, boy Liz (as played by Audra Lindley) was a psycho. She gave everyone a hard time, especially Bill and Missy.

Rachel (Robin Strasser) as we know was a piece of work and her scheming to keep Steve from Alice apart drove the show to the top of the ratings.

I'm grateful to hear those audio clips, but I can tell the original recorder was mainly trying to get the music cues, which explains the choppy edits of scenes.

Unfortunately, I think we have seen everything that is possibly out there from the early years.  What I still dont understand is why cant we see the later 80's or so on Hulu or any other network.  I thought by then, all of those episodes were captured and saved.  I am interested in the late 88/ 89 seasons.  There is a decent amount of episodes out on Youtube but not enough.  Does anyone know how I can get or see all the 88 season from June to December?

Wow, Brian Linehan was a Canadian broadcasting legend. It's a really great interview and Beverlee was in top form. So open and engaged. The financial details she states about the money soaps generated for their networks - incredible. It's interesting to hear that she was as friendly as it sounds with Victoria Wyndham.

Meanwhile, her story about Ruth Warrick is hilarious and full of cringe.

I hope @BetterForgotten sees this one.

I am glad Bev was so open and honest about her feelings about acting in other countries and her experience.  I always heard AW was popular in Canada.  I wonder why?  Too bad a broadcasting  company in Canada did not buy the copyrights of the show so it could continue but of course that would not work since it would have to be filmed there..

I loved Irene Dailey as Liz, but I think Harding Lemay toned-down the character too much, when he reintroduced Liz in 1974.  Dailey maintained very little of Lindley's volatility, and became even more mellow, as the years went by.  Lindley's Liz was really more of a villainess, and not just a meddling relative (as Lemay wrote her for Dailey).  And sadly, nearly all the post-Lemay writers mellowed Liz even more -- turning her into little more than comic relief.  That showed how little they really understood the character and her history.

I think Lindley and Dailey had very similiar characterists with their portrayal of Liz Matthews.  Lemay really did change Liz a lot.  Liz could not stand Jim Matthews children under  Lindley time but all of a sudden Aunt Liz under Daily loved her neices and nephew (by marriage btw).  I would love too see footage of Nancy Wickwires years as Liz Matthews.  Was she as evil as Audra Lindley's verison of Liz?

Beverlee McKinsey's son Scott has posted a Canadian TV interview his mother did just after leaving Texas. It really is quite amazing. It's on his Facebook page:

Thank you for sharing this excellent interview. Just a joy to watch from beginning to end. She was incandescent. And yes, that Ruth Warrick story was hilarious.

AW aired in Canada before any other soap got onto a Canadian network (it is not uncommon for American soaps to switch Canadian networks over the years - AMC, for instance, aired on CBC, CTV, and CTV2 over the years).

That was a well directed sequence. Sometimes those type of scenes can come off as clunky due to lack of time for rehearsal. Then that flash to the ball with something like 30 extras.

Oh for the days of decent budgets...

I had a back and forth with the uploader - they have about 30 minutes of the episode, and some other episodes and hopefully will either put them on Youtube or on Archive.

Yes. I guess this part led to his truncated run on GL (one of many victims of turnover).
