Too many sharks in the water for too long of a time.........

A few:

Gail Kobe. The worst instincts and managerial style, and instrumental in gutting the Bauers. Couldn't keep a HW to save her life.

Pam Long's "Dreaming Death": Two words: coma mice.

Pam Long's "Johnny Bauer's Miracle": Worst. Cancer. Ever.

Reva in the Everglades: Post-partum, effectively told, then derailed to give Zimmer a larger than life sendoff.

JFP: Killed Maureen Bauer. and made working conditions so unpleasant that Beverlee quit. Too many FOJ's. Couldn't hold on to a writer post-Curlee. Lost 25% of the audience in a single year of her shenanigans (94-95), which the show never really recovered from

McTavish/Laibson: What works on AMC might not on GL; but every bad AMC plot 91-94 paled in comparison for what she created in GL

B&E: Say what you will about Rauch, but there is a reason he's still got a job in the business after almost 40 years - and at the #1 show in daytime no less - but it was B&E that gave him (and us) all.the.dreck.

John Conboy & Ellen Weston - the conjoined sharks that were jumped every day, in every way they were there. Maryanne Caruthers. Marty Brown's Shayne. The GHB-like drug Lizzie gave Joey while they were in what looked to be the coolest gay club in the world.

David Kreizman - so much initial promise, all unfulfilled - it was if his writing had ADHD - started strong, and then pffftt.........

Yours?

It was like a snowball effect. Things were building up for years, but once all the s*hit went down on JFP's watch then came McTavish, it was like a giant avalanche was headed toward Springfield.

Really, once Nancy Curlee exited the HW position in early 1994, the show was never the same again.

As she mentioned in her interview with FrenchFan, many of the nuances and traits she tried so hard to instill on the show were gone, nothing made sense to her anymore, so she couldn't bear to watch. I don't think anyone since Curlee ever "got" GL, or at least not in the brilliant way she did.

It happens all the time when a brilliant writer leaves a show. ATWT hasn't been the same since Marland, Y&R hasn't been the same since Bill Bell, you know things like that.
