Injustice seems so intractable right now.  A lot of terrible things are happening, but what has gone on with these migrant children is among the worst.

I feel like other countries should be stepping in to stop it, but we're like China and Russia now.  So powerful that other countries might note our human rights violations, but they won't step in.

I wonder if people felt more optimistic in the 50's and 60's? Things were worse in terms of civil rights, but did it feel like an upswing? Like better things were around the corner? Now things might be technically better, but we're in an obvious downswing so it feels worse. I'll have to find someone in their 70's to ask.

Isn't there a Governor's race in OH?

I know it's not Congress but Cordray who used to run the Consumer Protection Bureau during the Obama administration (new at that time) is running as the Democratic candidate.

OH electing a Dem for governor for the first time in I-don't know-how long, would be big news, if it were to happen.

Me either. I'll believe it when I see it.

I think so.  Iowa is such a strange state.  Before I moved to Omaha I would have just lumped Iowa and NE in together, but Iowa is actually more progressive.  They just happen to have that nut Steve King making them look like Neanderthals.  Meanwhile, we have clean cut "farmer boy" Sasse who knows how to talk a good game while swimming in the exact same $hit at a higher level..

The Midwest is always the swing region in midterms. It came through huge for Democrats in 2006 and will probably come through even bigger this year. One of the critical things about this midterm is that Democrats can secure partial (hopefully full) control of redistricting in key states like Michigan and Wisconsin, perhaps even Ohio.

Michigan is guaranteed pretty much election of a democratic Governor as is Illinois and it looks like Walker in Wisconsin may be toast.  Illinois in fact looks like we will have a super majority and a democratic governor. We'll see what happens then. I believe Pritzker winning Governor by a projected wide margin in Illinois may help some of those congressional races.

Some of us liberals that live in North Carolina wondered how low the perception of the state is due to what the NC GOP has been doing to the state. I figured it the perception would be as low as Mississippi but being compared to South Africa made me laugh. NC hasn't sunk to that level yet. It's a purple state at the most with a conservative/rural- liberal/urban divide. It would be have more  Democrat  majority  if not for the extreme gerrymandering done by the NC GOP when they finally took control of state house. The NC GOP in all of their arrogance, changed the constitution to limit the executive power of the governor when a Democrat was going to be elected as one.

My perception of NC isn't as low as Mississippi by any stretch. Maybe because I lived in the south for a good long time, but my ranking of the worst is West Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky. That's just perception I can't put into words why. I'm not even sure NC would hit my bottom 10.
