Frankly, it doesn't matter when or even if Bannon leaves.  One, the damage has been done; and two, Trump doesn't need Bannon to make him racist.  As his inglorious track record proves, Trump is more than enough racist on his own.

34% STILL APPROVE of him?? Should we just call that a ballpark figure of white supremacists in the US?

I remember back in the 90s, the Oklahoma City bombing of a public building by white supremacist Timothy McVeigh and his ilk. He was called a terrorist and rightly so. Being a white supremacist alone was pretty much considered beyond the pale by most people. Now, with this presidency, it has been made viable, acceptable, with that false equivalency of "many sides."

I don't think that represents the percentage of white supremacists(if we define them as those tiiki carrying nutcases) but there are a hell of a lot of white people willing to turn away and ignore it because it doesn't impact them. Well as I typed this I realize, that in itself is a form of supremacy - or should I say white privilege.

And to them, I say, "What about the ones it DOES impact?  Does your line of sight extend only as far as your own back and front yards?  Do you not understand that Christianity's most basic tenet is to put others' needs before your own?  Or do you pay about as much lip service to the virtue of selflessness as the illiterate, misogynistic racist you helped put into the WH?"

Oh, perfect timing, Mr. President.  [/sarcasm]

As usual, marceline's right: we can't count on him to be "more presidential."  It just ain't in him.  So he can keep pulling bullshit like this.  We'll just keep calling him out on it until (God willing) he's no longer in office.

Yep. People especially the media need to stop. I read Mark Warner (the senator) saying his statement was presidential. Stop giving this man credit for doing the basics and showing basic decency and compassion. It's not him. People need to stop pretending who and what this man is or pretending he is going to pivot and look elsewhere for leadership. There are good decent leaders in this country and elsewhere.

I understand.  Everyone copes differently too. I came off as more judgemental then I meant to. It's not that I think it wrong for people to post about other things, it's just strange when I read the feed. This is more true on twitter where I'm a passive observer. Half my feed is these serious articles about all kinds of tragedy and the other half is Y&R.

Couldn't agree more about Trump denouncing white supremacy.  Like I said earlier in the thread, these are his people, why would he condemn them, he obviously agrees with them.  He is them.

I understand Carl.  My Facebook feed is very small and consists of people I either know in real life or people I trust.  It's private because I post pictures.  The irony is that in real life I don't put out political signs and such. I probably would, but my husband feels it's too dangerous, so I get where you are coming from.

His supporters live in an alternate universe. They really believe the economy is good because of him. I saw one troll on WaPo who said that his 401K is finally doing well after having lost money for the last eight years. There's no way that's true. That when you can tell these people are lying. It's like I said above, as long as he stays white and male they consider him a success. They didn't vote for his policies so it doesn't matter if they fail.
