I love this show. I hope lots of people are watching so we can have good discussions. It's going to be a good season. All you Ashley Jones fans better be watching, since she is playing Daphne this season. B)

Let me say I am so so so happy Lafayette did not die (yet, anyway).

Previews for next week show him asking to be made into a vampire. That could be amazing.

I do wonder what the evil secret of that vibrating Mary Ann is. Is she a grecian goddess? On this show, anything is possible.

Me to. I was holding my breath on that one all this time. The show did a great job of making me think he really was gone.

I saw an interview with the actor on TV guide and he says he think Lafayette will be around in season 3. I looked for the interview but it's not there anymore. I'm not sure how to find their archives.

I think Mary Ann is a follower of the god Pan. She seems to get off on people who are drinking or on drugs in some way. I don't quite get it though.

Here is an interview with the actor that plays Lafayette. It was actually on EW.:

Per the hated "PH" website

Looks like HBO finally has a new Sopranos on their hands!

The second season premiere of True Blood on Sunday night was the highest rated program for the premium cable network since the finale of The Sopranos.

According to the Nielson ratings, 3.7 million viewers tuned in to True Blood on Sunday!

Wow!

The ratings are up 157% from the first season's premiere and up 51% than last season's finale.

Sounds like HBO snagged a winner!

Those ratings are great news. Sounds like a lot of people found the show since the end of season 1 and the premier of season 2. Nelsan Ellis also reference season 3 in his interview and it sounds like it's already a done deal. I have to say one more time, THANK GOD Lafayette did not die.

I watched a second time and I can't wait until Sunday.

Poor Jessica. There is no way her family will accept her.

Do you think they'll make Lafayette a vamp?? I could totally accept that.

TVGuide tells a similar ratings story

Sunday night's Season 2 premiere of True Blood drew 3.7 million total viewers, HBO's best audience for a piece of original programming since The Sopranos' June 2007 sign-off. True Blood's numbers represent a 157 percent increase over its series debut, and a 51 percent gain over the first season's finale.

I think it's possible. Did you get a chance to read the interview I linked above? NE seems pretty confident about his place on the show now. I could definitely accept Lafeyette as a vamp, but I hope it doesn't happen until the end of the season. I want to see a little bit more of his human struggles for now.

I had missed that link.

Yes, he seems to think there is

"Eric's henchman"

in his future. I like when these shows leave their books behind. I have intentionally stayed away from the books, but now, as the show diverges, it is less likely I'll be spoiled.

Jason Stackhouse is insanely hot, so I don't want him to become a religious bigot. I like Lafayette and Jason most, I think. And Tara!!

That man is sex on a stick! And I'm very much attracted to Lafayette (story of my life).

And I'm not excited about Daphne.

Ausiello: HBO just released the official titles and loglines for TB's July episodes and they contain some bloody good spoilers...

July 12: “Shake and Fingerpop”

With Jessica in tow, Bill and Sookie head to Dallas to carry out Eric’s vampire-reconnaissance mission -- but a surprise awaits them at the airport. At the Light of Day Institute, Jason falls victim to a practical joke, but has the last laugh when the Newlins anoint him for a higher calling. Maryann throws Tara a birthday party at Sookie’s, attracting much of Bon Temps to its Bacchanalian revelry. Sam postpones his departure from town to attend the bash, connecting with Daphne in the process. Having barely escaped Fangtasia, Lafayette (finds himself reluctantly pulled back into Eric’s orbit.

July 19: "Never Let Me Go”

In Dallas, Sookie connects with one of her own, then joins Bill and Eric for a strategic summit at the lair of the missing vampire, Godric, attended by his lieutenants, Stan and Isabel. Meanwhile, Jason shows his mettle at a Light of Day boot camp, and is rewarded for his hard work with a gift from Sarah. Rebuffed by Tara in her relocation efforts, Maryann decides to cast her spell on the staff of Merlotte’s, softening Tara up towards her new "family." Eric shares a little-known secret about his past with Bill, and Sookie makes a decision that might solve the Godric mystery -- or get her killed.

July 26: “Hard-Hearted Hannah”

Accompanied by Isabel’s human boyfriend Hugo, Sookie embarks on a dangerous mission to locate Godric. Meanwhile, Bill is shocked when a vampire from his distant, more violent past resurfaces in Dallas. In Bon Temps, Daphne presses Sam to get comfortable in his own skin(s); Hoyt continues his unlikely courtship of Jessica; Andy interrogates Lafayette about his disappearance; and Tara and Eggs take a detour while on a road trip. At the Light of Day camp, Jason faces difficult emotional and physical choices.

Awesome spoilers. I don't understand them all.

I've been struggling with who Maryann is. The series is apparently deviating from the books a bit here, so we can't be totally spoiled.

That said, here is what another website (greyblood) seems to think:

Who is Maryann , and what is a Maenad (often spelled Maenid) ? True Blood’s big curve ball at the end of season one was an overly nice , rich woman who wanted to take care of people for no good reason , other than “to help”. It is widely beleived (pretty much accepted by all)that this is Maryann the Maenad. She and her crazy pig move into Bon Temps , Louisiana and make nice with Tara.

So what is a Maenad? A Maenad was the female follower of of Dionysus, the most significant members of the Thiasus, the retinue of Dionysus. The term maenad literally translates to “frenzied woman”. When maenads are depicted (wether it be on kilts or ancient drawings) they are portrayed in scenes that show them in a frenzy running in the forests, often tearing to pieces any animal they happen to come across.

Typically they feed off intoxication and become wild themselves, tearing animals and somtimes men and children apart . They often behave in wild sexual exploits while in this “zone”.

So Maryann, you are one wacked out sister. I can’t imagine the dynamic she is going to bring to the show because she acts as if she is very familiar with our favorite bar owner, Sam Merlotte . In the book series this situation with a maenad and Sam is played out differently, and we are led to (SPOILER WARNING BEEP BEEP STOP HERE) ……………………………… believe they are very intertwined in sexual a relationship that they both enjoy quite a bit. She often rerquires sacrifices of some sort (or a type of “gift”) when she comes into an area and when she gets it, she’s more than happy to leave and take her havoc wreaking ways with her. That could definitely play into this situation.
