HBO: True Blood

Recommended Posts

"last chance for true love" *eye roll* speech. And lord knows I can't stand to watch "find a happy place" Lafayette. This was not a great episode.

I wish we were getting a two hour season finale.

I actually found Lafayette the saving grace of this episode. Little by little we've seen him get his pizzazz back to the point it was easy to think he was over his imprisonment but they showed us that he'll be dealing with this for a long time.

We got very little movement for the current stories but I saw this episode as a BIG setup for the themes of S3:

  • Bill isn't what he seems: Eric called Bill out on feeding Sookie his blood the night they met and The Queen clearly knows about Sookie. And why did Bill lie to Hadley about Gran?
  • Eric isn't what he seems: He's selling V and doesn't want the Queen to know. Plus Lafayette is blood-tied to Eric and so is Sookie. That little discussion about their dreams gave me the feeling that we'll be seeing some interesting stuff from them. And now Sam owes him a debt too.
  • Sookie is a whole lot more than what she seems: That light show from her hand was just the beginning.

Also we've still got two more people scheduled to die this season. I'm hoping Eggs will be one of them.

Because he doesn't want Hadley talking to Sookie. If she does, Sookie may figure out that Bill has another agenda and has from the start.

I think Eric is what he seems, hiding something from the Queen just underlines that. He's always been portrayed as a little shady. I think that discussion about the dreams is to show that Lafayette can still hate Eric even though he is being influenced by his blood, so Sookie can't use the blood as an excuse for her developing interest in Eric. She could stop herself if she wanted to just like Lafayette.

Eggs needs to go, ICAM.

I hadn't thought of it that way but that makes perfect sense. I can't help it though I'd really like Eric to develop some kind of fondness for Lafayette. Just once I'd like to see him say the words "Lafayette...is mine." *shivers*

Even if he doesn't die, Eggs needs to hit the bricks. But I'd rather he die, preferably in the act of protecting Tara. He owes her (and us).

Yeah, I kind of wish that they hadn't gone down this PTSD route with Lafayette, that would make it a lot easier for there to be some sort of friendship between them. At this point, I'm not sure how Eric and Lafayette can be in the same vicinity without Lafayette freaking out. Maybe Eric will either help save Lafayette and Tara or he'll see how bad off Lafayette is and glamor the memories away out of pity.

I crave Eric/Lafayette more than I do Eric/Sookie.

Eggs/MB is the one character that has yet to bring something original to the show. One of the things that makes this show great is the overall cast's ability to generate chemistry in the presence of one another. Let him die naked on a cross next to Maryanne.

I can't say I was thrilled by last Sunday's episode. There seemed to be some lost momentum from the week before IMO, but maybe it's me.

First off. I don't think I've ever said this about a cast member on this show....but...I do not like whomever they cast as The Queen. She comes across to me as too pedestrian. Too simple. Too trashy. Living for as long as she has, something about it just doesn't seem "right" to me. I get the impression she lives far away from town - I could buy it if she were The Queen there. But I don't buy a worldly, hundreds of years old vamp behaving like this.

But hey - at least we learned now what Maryann's obsession with Sam is now. I love that twist because this entire time it appeared (from the story anyway) that there was a revenge thing going on, but apparently that is not the case. Cool. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around what EXACTLY Maryann "is" though.

OMG Lafayette/Eric :wub::wub: The dude playing Eric just oozes sex and could be hot with just about anyone on the show. Which gives me a thought...

Eric/Jason! Could y'all IMAGINE?!?!

Evan Rachel Wood was completely wrong for the role. I'm on the fence about her as an actress but she's not ready for adult roles and is reminiscent of a young Kristen Dunst for me. Her scenes were very uncomfortable. Ashley Jones could've done a better job in this role.

I was disappointed in this episode - way too much Maynar/Maryanne and her black eyed zombies. I really hope Season 3 will focus on the Vampires.

Jason and Andy were once again hilarious - I love this comedic duo. I loved Jason's line, "....and I watch a lot of porn, to learn stuff."

It was great seeing Pam again! I want to see more of her.

I love Evan Rachel Wood, but I do think the role of the Queen should've gone to an older actress.

I heard in the books the queen is supposed to be a teenager.

she is, she turned vampire at like 15. and in the books she is like over 1000 years old. its perfect casting really, as far as the books go.

It is hard to imagine how they'll wrap up the whole Maenad thing and launch a third season, all in one episode.

For the first time, I'm irritated by HBO's short seasons  .

From what I hear, next season shoots in December...maybe January or so. It's going to be a short hiatus.

They should never... and I mean NEVER take a break before the season finale. That made no kind of sense.

I enjoyed the season finale and left with feelings that I might or might not be watching the show for a third season- or will watch the entire thing when season 3 finishes.

I lean towards more Sookie/Eric so Bill getting kidnapped did little for me. I'm happy everything got tied in a neat little bow at the end, but it didn't feel as organic as the first season. With all the trouble Maryanne caused and to simply go out with a whimper...I find Lafayette to once again be my deciding factor on whether or not I will embrace another season.

I found the last two episodes very disappointing. The finale was especially weak. I think it would have been much better if they had wrapped up the Maryanne story in the middle of the season and then ended with the FOTS/Godric confrontation. Also, I may be biased, but I think when Eric is missing from an episode it tends to fall flat. He brings

something the show seems to really need. Maybe it's tension (not to mention the sexy). but I can't put my finger on it exactly.

Thank god for Sam, Andy and Jason.
