You have a right to your own opinion and I respect that but I fundamentally disagree with everything you just said. The first thing I take issue with is the fact that you said that Starr is just a spoiled rich girl who has never had to deal with real problems. You call having Todd and Blair as parents not having problems? i sympathize with Cole and what he's going throught thinking that his mother is dead, but how many times has Starr been in the same situation? Todd left her multiple times either because he was in jail or he was off another one of his missions. I originally started watching this show back in 2004 and since that time she had to deal with Margaret kidnapping Todd and being told he was dead, only for when he did show up to be told that her mother was dead too. When she finally did get them both back Todd went to jail for murdering Margaret and she had to stand by outside the jail as he was being executed while people cheered. You pointed out that she is spoiled but she is because of her parents. They gave her money and gifts whenever they screwed up as a way to ease their consciences, it's all she knows and it's not like she's the only rich person in the town. If I'm not mistaken wasn't Marty an heiress(I think she used to live in La Boulaie)? Cole's not exactly bad off for money either. I may not always agree with what she does but to say that she only thinks about herself is ridiculous. She almost had an abortion for Cole, and then didn't because of him, and then ran off and left her family who was just starting to pick up the pieces for him. If she really didn't care how he felt then she wouldn't be so conflicted and trying to buy into his fantasy.

As Julia pointed out Cole was kicked off of the football team after the incident with steroids, he joined the baseball team at the end of last year with the help of Marcie. He is the opposite of a football star. After the steroids the whole school turned on him because they blamed him for the fact that the team lost, the only person who didn't was Starr.

I think the writers have been very clear in making Starr's motivations selfless.

First, her whole reveal to Langston about wanting to give the baby up for adoption was because she didn't think that she and Cole were ready to be parents and that she felt they wouldn't prioritize the baby the way the baby deserved to be prioritized. She also didn't want to make Cole feel trapped, or as if she and the baby were robbing him of his youth and all the things he should be able to do and experience at his age.

Then when it comes to Marcie, Starr feels sympathy for Marcie because Starr knows Marcie could be a good mother and is in a place in her life where she can give a child the kind of family it deserves, and Starr feels guilt because of her father Todd's part in why Marcie no longer has a child to raise.

From my perspective I don't see ANY of those motivations as selfish. Starr did admit that she wanted to go on the roller coaster, but all her reasons for wanting to give up her child were for the child's well-being first, and Starr/Cole's lives second.

Yes, La Boulaie used to be the Saybrooke mansion. I believe Dorian bought it out from under Marty in order to compete with Viki's Llanfair.

And thinking back to orphaned Marty living in that big mansion by herself, it reminds me of orphaned Langston living in the big house by herself. Interesting, that hadn't occurred to me until now.

You all have awesome points. I think I just have this really out-of-nowhere irrational dislike for the character lol and I'll find anyway to twist anything she does to make it work against her.

Right. You're exactly right. But my point is this: despite years and years of being jerked around by her parents, I don't think I've seen any kind of maturity in Starr. I'll admit that this current storyline is making her see things a bit differently, but I still feel as though she's far from being the type of mature young woman that she should be, given her past with her parents.

PS: Thanks for respecting my opinion. I respect yours too and I'm glad we can disagree about this and not be snippy little bitches or anything with each other :)

:D Just don't go near those anonymous boards.

AllMyShadows, I think I can partially agree with you. For some reason Starr seems to be a weaker character as an adolescent than she was as a younger child. And of those traits she's retained, they aren't as "cute" in someone her age, about to be a mother. In between, lies an inconsistency with the character's placement in the story. I see recent efforts to repair it but we're not quite there yet. The story is real enough and her behavior isn't unbelievable for somone her age, but she lacks rootability at times. Some days I like her, others I 'm hoping she'll be the one to get the next big )))))))SLAP!((((((

I'm wondering if maybe this isn't tied to a subject brought up last week: Blair being too easy on her... and Cole.

Alright, ladies and gentlemen, that makes it three.

The first was Tom O'Rourke (ex-Dr. Justin Marler, GL), who first played Victor Lord in the "Llanfair secret room" flashbacks, back in '85, then returned recently as BE board member, Warren Cobb...

ETA: For some reason, I confused "Warren" with "Webster," but I've made the correction.

The second was Burke Moses, who played Alex's henchman, Bulge, back in the day; but who just played another role on the show, as another BE board member, Jenkins...

Now the third? Janet Zarish, who currently plays Marty's personal nurse, Janet; but who first appeared on OL back in '86, as Tom Dennison's ex-wife/Mari Lynn Coleman's mother, Lee Halpern Sanders. (Tom, for those who don't know, was Joe Riley's twin brother.)

Is this a part of the OLTL 40th anniversary that I don't know about? Bringing back former actors in new roles? Not that I shouldn't complain, since I've missed seeing Zarish and O'Rourke on my TV screen...but I am starting to wonder, lol.

Any minute now, Dorian LoPinto (ex-Samantha Vernon) could show up as Jared's mom, Valerie, in a flashback; or Ken Meeker (ex-Rafe Garretson) as Brody's dad; or Stephen Schnetzer (ex-Marcello Salta) as a consulate with the Mendorran government.

Nurse Janet used to be Lee Halpern?! I saw Lee talking to Cassie in an old clip on one of those classic episode marathons (Cord/Tina's wedding?) but I didn't realize this was her. I really liked what I saw of Lee Halpern! No wonder I like Janet! I guess it adds to the viewers feeling familiar feelings about the show if it's faces we remember but can't quite place.

The who at the what, lol?

Absolutely not, TC. In fact, I'm almost offended by that question. I'll troll for many things, but never for Dorian LoPinto!

Maybe it was because her hair was "poofier" back then, lol?

As soon as I saw JZ enter Marty's room and ask Lee (Ramsey) for her tray, I knew it was her. I thought she was pretty when I was seven, and she's still pretty to me today.

Here, though, is a website that features not just her, but all the actors who have played "unintentional dual roles" on OLTL. (I knew I had seen Addie somewhere before, lol.)

    • I don't mind Jan either. If anything, they could be using her more to get her daughter's POV. Not to mention her role as one of the Have-Nots.    I also don't mind the local talent. Just look at soaps that were in NY or the shows that film there, they always go for the local talent and we get to find new faves.
    • I'm not going to watch (because...well...that M-dude...lol) but knowing the history between Henry and Roger, I could see Henry wanting to enable Hart to stay independent of Roger. I could even see it as Henry having the last laugh at Roger. Roger hated "the Henry's" of the world, which basically meant anyone who had money and social prominence. Twice Roger swindled Henry out of a chunk of his fortune, so giving some to Hart, who hates his father, is a form of karma.
    • Ashley and Derek have to go- they really throw off the pace of the show.  Today was the first time I fast-forwarded through their scenes. The writing and acting is just bad for both characters.
    • Jon is stuck in a story that isn't popular but with Cady I feel like the issue is that she was clearly thrown in with no real purpose. I still don't understand why she pops up. I recall early on it being said she owned a spa but we've never seen it. That could've been an interesting location for people to meet. She also could've worked better as Smitty's mom, but instead we get this random agent of Dani's who pops up twice a month? A total waste. I mostly agree. I do feel like Jan could be elevated with a name soap actress, someone like Judi Evans or Kassie DePaiva comes to mind, but they're limited to who is in Atlanta. Keeping that in mind I think the current actress is fine.
    • It's great to see. My thoughts might be a little different, but for the most part, I am excited and interested in most of the storylines. Yeah, you're right. This is probably how she (Dani) normally acts. And, I do not like it!  I agree; this is another distraction while she heals her wounds. If I weren't an Eva fan, she helped me root for her even more. As I said a month ago, I hope they take their time with her modeling agency. I would love to see her face a few obstacles before becoming a huge success.
    • I like that there are a lot of local performers on this soap and I'm glad they've resisted so far on hiring too many soap performers.   Cady has been awkward on the show thus far and Jon seems to have polarizing as well. I say focus on the local talent and giving those people a job and exposure.. and leave the P & G soap opera performers in the past.
    • Who do you think would be good for the show among the ATWT/GL cast?
