Y&R: Week of April 21, 2008

I guess a headwriter is only as good as his writing team - or in case of LML as bad.

Y&R is so painfully boring and exhausting these days. It's as if all changes made post Dec 26, 2007 are redone. The short meaningless scenes, fragmentation - it's annoying. The characters still show motivition though. The writing team however needs to get booted ASAP. Y&R was soo much better during the strike...

Only positive ingredient which keeps me from FF-ing: The amount of Jill's airtime these past two weeks. And she even is fierce every once in a while. Jess Walton is single-handledly carrying this show for me. And she's unfortunately a supporting player. This should tell a lot.

Every single episode that Michael and Lauren were in during 2008 was filled with Gloria talk. That couple didn't talk about anything else during the entire year. I'd kill myself if the only thing I could talk about during my life is a person like Gloria. Plus, Kevin and Jana have also been discussing about Gloria all the time (except briefly about the wedding).

I've never found JT interesting and thinks he should be gone from the show ASAP! Lauren used to be a interesting bitch but in addition to her being nothing but a supporter of the Baldwin/Fisher criminals, I also think motherhood may have mellowed her a bit too much. The same can be said of Phyllis BTW.

I agree that the only interesting thing that I can find in the show these days is Jill's airtime and that rivalry that is happening with Nikki (which has basically been going on for years). Other than that, the show has indeed gone back to 30-second scenes, and it weirdly feels like it's self-contained. I don't know how, but it does. Ever since those LML writers came back... sheesh!

I know exactly what you're talking about. Every episode seems so self contained...it's such garbage. I cannot stand how this LMLism is back. It's time to FIRE the prime time writers MAB.

Also, Jess Walton is carrying this show with the scenes she's been given. Jill is the ONLY thing that's holding my interest. Dear MAB, lead storyline for Jess Walton STAT! The rivalry with Nikki is a good place to start!

    • I don’t even know why you responded to the bait.
    • I only watch for Sharon and she’s barely on. The only good thing going at the moment is Jack and Diane scenes and they’ve made Diane such a wuss lately which is making that unbearable to watch too
    • I feel like Earl Hamner and his crew brought in Richard* BECAUSE they knew almost right away that Robert Foxworth was so dull as Chase.  At any event, Richard, IMO, proved to be much more interesting as Angela's chief adversary. (*Or brought him back, depending on whether we're including the original "Vintage Years" pilot).
    • And it will also eventually air S2, which will air its finale in Canada this Thursday, May 15th! https://tvline.com/news/law-and-order-toronto-criminal-intent-season-1-2-the-cw-1235449356/ As an American that has managed to watch it in real time, it's very good. Frankly, I think it's the best of the L&O franchise as of now.
    • You are getting like me. It's getting to the point that without any Damian sightings...it's been the fashion that is holding my interest. And it should not be that way at all.
    • I don't mind Jan either. If anything, they could be using her more to get her daughter's POV. Not to mention her role as one of the Have-Nots.    I also don't mind the local talent. Just look at soaps that were in NY or the shows that film there, they always go for the local talent and we get to find new faves.
    • I'm not going to watch (because...well...that M-dude...lol) but knowing the history between Henry and Roger, I could see Henry wanting to enable Hart to stay independent of Roger. I could even see it as Henry having the last laugh at Roger. Roger hated "the Henry's" of the world, which basically meant anyone who had money and social prominence. Twice Roger swindled Henry out of a chunk of his fortune, so giving some to Hart, who hates his father, is a form of karma.
    • Ashley and Derek have to go- they really throw off the pace of the show.  Today was the first time I fast-forwarded through their scenes. The writing and acting is just bad for both characters.
    • Jon is stuck in a story that isn't popular but with Cady I feel like the issue is that she was clearly thrown in with no real purpose. I still don't understand why she pops up. I recall early on it being said she owned a spa but we've never seen it. That could've been an interesting location for people to meet. She also could've worked better as Smitty's mom, but instead we get this random agent of Dani's who pops up twice a month? A total waste. I mostly agree. I do feel like Jan could be elevated with a name soap actress, someone like Judi Evans or Kassie DePaiva comes to mind, but they're limited to who is in Atlanta. Keeping that in mind I think the current actress is fine.
    • It's great to see. My thoughts might be a little different, but for the most part, I am excited and interested in most of the storylines. Yeah, you're right. This is probably how she (Dani) normally acts. And, I do not like it!  I agree; this is another distraction while she heals her wounds. If I weren't an Eva fan, she helped me root for her even more. As I said a month ago, I hope they take their time with her modeling agency. I would love to see her face a few obstacles before becoming a huge success.
