I notice that Watros seems to be intentionally playing against the literal writing and character-type (or what exists of such a poorly defined character). I think that' gone a long way in making this character digestible and even somewhat sympathetic (which she still often was as Annie even when the writing was stacked against her). That's the skill of a talented actress.
Boy, that never stopped me when I used to watch this show, .
You could be onto something though. Whenever I used to critique the show, someone would inevitably try to police my comments and be all over my a$s about how negative I was supposedly behaving. I do think the end result is that it stifles expression, ultimately causing people to think twice about posting their honest reactions because you just don't want the hassle from those one or two replies.
It's funny that you say this - and I realize I'm coming in a week later, blame Ida - because a very good Instagram account I follow posted a series of scenes not long ago where Brooke fires Kendall from Tempo for writing an Erica-bashing article. It was so WEIRD to see Brooke working on Erica's behalf and the two of them almost respecting each other. Clearly, on Erica's end, it was all about getting back at Kendall and using Brooke to do it, but it was still an oddly satisfying thing to watch. It kinda made their feud even more realistic - yes, there is always THAT bitch you don't like, but sometimes you gotta hand it to her.
