I just dont see the need to recast. I could understand if Devetta wasnt good in the part. If there had been an outcry by Y&R fans but I havent seen any of that.

QUOTE(Chris B @ Oct 30 2006, 12:49 AM)

She didn't just run away, remember when she blackmailed Dru? Could you see Christel doing that? What about when Dru tried to snatch her up and they almost got into a catfight? I can't see Christel even remotely doing a convincing job of that.

She played the fight scene well. But I also remember Dru bit*ch slapping Lily, so I know CK can play argumentive if that's what you mean.

I've seen CK prove that she IS a good actress. Her work during the Kevin predator story was great.

As for Lily blackmailing Dru, that has nothing to do with maturity. Just pure selfishness.

Can anybody picture Dru trying to smack Davetta Lily? Or grabing her out that Tackhouse in front of Daniel that time. Can anybody picture Davetta Lily even crying for Daniel to help her when Dru grab her. Just think she would have played it different then how they wrote it or wrote it different for Davetta Lily.

Again it's all in the writing, unfortuantely CK got the short hand of the stick last year.

It's like me saying can you imagine DS Lily playing the Kevin predator stuff.

But Devetta isn't a actress to me that warrants such an uproar? I swear she's gotten more exposure for her departure than Jerry Douglas. And that's sad to me. I think most of it though, is to show how shaky things are behind the scenes.

Anybody else feel that way?

I feel to the black people she is warrant this uproar. We suppose to feel connected to the black characters & I never felt connected to CK Lily.

I think they wrote her like she came off valley girlish. that I couldn't relate too.

Well, I never really feel connected to Neil ;)

No, I never cared for Lily (and Lily/Daniel) with CK in the role, and now that she's back... I go back to doing what I was doing before, FF. I watched DS's Lily and felt that she was Lily, I cared and cheered for her and Daniel, with CK... never felt that.

What's so strong and mature about this Lily?
Davetta, I think, just has a certain presence. She doesn't come off weak. She's very fiesty and spunky and I think a lot of people like that. Much more the spawn of Dru. Not saying Lily has to be so much like Dru, but it just looks good.

My whole point however was just that this whole situation is being played bigger than it should be, and the hatred for Khalil isn't nearly warranted.

One more point, I see nothing wrong with Christel, a teenage girl wanting to try different things.

Let's also not forget that Michelle Stafford left the show for her primetime gig and then returned back to the show.

Yes, but was someone fired so that Michelle could come back, someone that did a really good job? Y&R seems to be giving the impression that Christel was severely missed as Lily and that Davetta just didn't compare. And for a lot of people that just isn't true. As far as Christel, my BS dectector is just going off with her. When she first left she said she quit because she wanted do do movies and primetime and then she comes back and says it was stress after having done no movies or primetime gigs. She is a young girl entitled to wanting to try new things, but when she comes back after her replacement whom a lot of people liked and prefered was treated in such a way, it just doesn't make a lot of people happy. I don't think Christel is a bad actress, but in no way was she better than Davetta. Y&R seems to be saying that she was, and for me personally that isn't just a slap in the face to Davetta, but it is a slap in the face to me. And I'm sure this is what a lot of others feel too. For me, I just feel like my intelligence is being insulted

Are you?

Why do ya say that? lol

And to answer your question, no I'm not. LOL. Just a fan, giving the opinion of some of my fellow fans.

I'm not racist or anything, but I have seen both actresses in the part of Lily and I do agree that Davetta seems more believable as Dru's daughter. At least that is what I have gathered from all the complaints over the last few weeks. Black soap fans seem to relate to Davetta better and prefer her by a landslide. Even Victoria Rowell made comments suggesting she much preferred Davetta as Lily.

Could it be that the Producers want Khalil back in the role because she is "neutral" looking next to her white husband and therefore less offensive to people who don't like interracial couples? I've heard some people say that.

Check and CHECKMATE!

DruRocks, this is exactly the point I was trying to convey in the post regarding Khalil's return in the news page, when you politely asked me not to "go the race way."

I'm really not trying to be controversial by saying that, but the writing was on the wall from the get-go when I heard Khalil was returning.

My statement, as well as EricaKane4Life's were not meant to be racist against white actors, so much as it is to state an obvious point.

And it's not like "lack of minority representation" is something I complain about. If anything, I prefer to see minorites portrayed in a positive, but at the same time, realistic light(GL, are you LISTENING?!?!?!?!). I mean, c'mon, I watch THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL everyday and there ain't a single color in that crayon box other than white. But I rarely, if ever, complain about it.

But I digress...

If Davetta WAS a problem child on the set(hence Primedia's Blind Item anout a certain ingenue), I really don't think that one blowup warranted a dismissal, unless this was one from a long string of others. Who knows?!

I can just honestly say that I am NOT looking forward to Khalil's return. She makes Lily a spineless brat.

As a black soap viewer myself, I don't see the uproar as a predominantly "ethnic" argument (although there have been points -- both interesting and ignorant -- concerning that angle expressed). I think it was more of an actress/character appreciation. People are upset because either they're a Davetta Fan First or they're a Lily Fan due to Davetta's portrayl rather than Khalil's. Either way, I think they're just upset that the Lily the like is going back to an actress they don't like or a version they didn't like.

It's how I feel about General Hospital's Carly character. I enjoyed Carly scenes immensely for years when Sarah Brown was in the role. But since I'm a Sarah J. Brown Fan First, any actress who took over the role had their work cut out for them if they wanted my self-important approval. Tamara Braun was a sweetheart in real life, but wrong. Jenny Bransford had my support, but wrong. But when the show brought in Laura Wright to play the role, I have done nothing but HATE HATE HATE Carly because the way Laura Wright plays her makes me want to ram her head into a brick wall repeatedly while laughing maniacally!!

I'm not saying that's exactly the feeling CK evokes in some Y&R fans, but when you see a character played in a way that endears you to their story and their plight, you tend to worry about the reaction an actress who CLEARLY has a different approach to the role may cause you to have when she takes over. Seeing Davetta portray Lily as if she actually emerged from Dru endeared her to the Dru fans, who I can tell are numerous! We tend to enjoy seeing children of our friends have similar traits to their parents. It's somewhat comforting knowing that our friends may live on in their children. My father sees a LOT of his late big sister in his niece... his sister's first born. Even his great niece. Whenever he sees them, he tends to become like a little kid again hanging on his "big sister's" every word. And on soaps, with all the constant recasts and write-outs a.k.a. "storyline dictated" departures, that's exactly what we want. We want to know that the history of our favorite characters will be honored in their children, continuing to give us the elements we enjoy about the show. When the show deliberately takes a 180 degree turn and recast the role with an actress who doesn't contribute those elements, fans tend to get a little worried about what this move represents for their show as a whole.

I don't blame them.

LML has been making some rather bold moves.

For me, it certainly is not an issue of race. Both CK and DS are black. I don't look at CK and think she is less black than any of the other black characters on the show, or at DS and think she is as black as anyone on the show. It's hard to believe that would be the issue, but I can't really understand what it could be, because DS breathed new life into Lily. She made Lily a character that I like and understand and root for. I never felt that when CK played Lily.

I figure it must be a behind the scenes issue, because acting wise, DS is great, and it sucks to know that an actress that I actually think is doing a good job, is being replaced by someone I know isn't as interestng an actress.

For those who say CK's Lily doesn't realistically look like she could be the daugher of Dru and Neil, I say sure she can. That's the beauty of genetics. Recently I saw a news item about a couple (both of color and relatively dark skinned) who had twins, one had "black features", hair, skin, facial features, the other as white as snow with blond hair and blue eyes. The white child looked nothing like her twin, or her parents. That happens. Kids don't have to look anything like their parents.

It does feel like a step back to me with this 'recast' coming onto the show.

It doesn't make any sense to me.

I know the actress hasn't even aired yet, but I already know I don't like her Lily.

I'm sure the poor kid can act...but no thanks.

I don't want her back...maybe as a new character,

But not as Lily. The actress playing her right now is perfect.

I believe this Lily to be Dru and Neil's kid. I buy into it.

I get that Neil is bland and kind of dull, but Dru is a fire cracker.

She has spark. She has scrappiness. She's fierce. She's fabulous.

She is ghetto fabulous and I love her for it.

I have come to like Dru so much in such a short time.

I watched ABC soaps for over 25 years...Days for 15 years now...

plus SUN, SB when they were around.

In all this time there has only been maybe 20 characters I have truly enjoyed and took to heart.

Made them my favorites. The ones to love and root for and look out for.

Dru is one of them. I feel Dru gets compromised by this move. It makes me angry.

"You wouldn't like me when I'm angry..." lol (what movie is that from)?

I guess more than anything I'm disappointed at what could have been. I could see history with these girls.

I seen Dru and Lily being mother and daughter. I could see them being sisters.

I could see them being friends. I could see them as adversaries.

I could see them getting into trouble. I see them having each other's back.

Years from now I could see Dru and Lily still being tight.

She was a cool side kick for Dru. A mini-Dru. All because of this current actress.

I do believe if this actress would have stayed with the show, she would have gone far.

I know the door is revolving on daytime daily. I get that. It's just business.

But this is just messed up business in my eye.

I seen 2 shows with the old Lily. It's night and day with the two of them.

The acting style is so different. The look is different obviously.

I know you can't change your skin color unless you have what Michael Jackson has.

But I'm not blind. The old Lily could pass for white.

Not that she has to pass for anything in the first place...lol.

There is many colors of the rainbow. We are all different...yadda yadda.

But why is it wrong with wanting a more dark skinned actor playing the part?

She looks white to me. She looks white and she acts white.

How you act white?...I'm not sure...dancing with your hands?...sky diving?...lol.

But anyway...I don't like it. I did not like it when OLTL did it with Blair years ago.

One day she is of an Asian mix and the next she was a white country girl.

Blair today is on that list of favorites...but I didn't like the change for a long time.

I wouldn't like Passions' Theresa to be suddenly played by someone that looked like ATWT's Katie.

Or Day's' Abby to be replaced with someone like OLTL's Adriana.

Not unless it's for some gimmick. Even OLTL winked at it's new Blair.

I'm just saying it's one thing to bring on a new actor that looks very different...Hello to GH's Dominque...she went from very short hair, to hair that was down to her butt cheeks with a recast.

But it's odd to me when you mess with color like that. I think instead of it being she's not black enough...

it's more she's not as black AS...

There are two different skin tones here and it's going to be weird. As a gay guy I think it would be beyond ignorant to hate on someone for something like sex, race, religion...I'm not hating on light skinned people. For all I know the actress' parents are both black. I'm just knocking the fact that it's going to be way different when she comes back. I'll adjust I'm sure...but It won't be easy. I still look at Michael Jackson weird...but there's like 307 reasons to do that.

So maybe...just maybe I will come to like NuLily.

But for now I just see the move as stupid.

Dru's a ghetto queen. Neil is uptight and proper.

Lily was raised very well off. I don't see the "Davetta is more Dru's daughter" argument just because she's a little more rough. There's no reason Lily has to be more Dru than Neil. (I know Neil is not her real father, but still.)

Well, considering Lily spent most of her life with Dru, I think it makes plenty sense that she'd take after her mother more than Neil.

I agree with so many of the pro-Davetta Sherwood points, I won't repeat them, just give a co-sign. Simply, I prefer the actress DS over CK.

Speaking of... this will be Davetta's last week as Lily. :( I'll have to buy some earplugs this weekend. LOL!
