  1. Here’s the thing: I don’t mind Ciara being dickmatized by Ben. It’s perfectly realistic. I’ve seen plenty of intelligent women and gay men (including yours truly) who have lost their wits and gotten with a guy who is totally wrong for them because he is good in bed.

what bothers me is that they force all of Salem to constantly sing his praises.

I enjoyed seeing the Deveraux clan band together around JJ. You never know how long we’ll have Jack/Matt Ashford on the show.

I’m not blown away with KA as Princess Gina but I do love her as Gina playing Hope, especially when she’s dealing with Rafe. She just sucks at whatever European accent she’s attempting for Gina.

Gina as Hope rolling her eyes at Rafe is great. But why does Hope like Rafe? She could have had that same reaction without the Gina plot device being needed.

  3. What the hell was the point of a time jump if half the show is flashbacks showing us what we “missed”? It’s like they wanted to give us the instant gratification of all these “intense” scenes without any of the build up.

and yet.... it’s so bad, it’s good. I will be watching, at least for this week. It almost reminds me of Langan’s Days, where even without a time jump there were at least 10 minutes per day devoted to flashbacks.

also all these flashbacks let them use the over-exposed film visual effect to their hearts’ content, which serves to hide how cheap the show would look otherwise.

Meh. On the whole, put me down for “pro-time jump.”

I don't remember the details on that one who shall not be named (and I can't even remember exactly WHY she can't be named), or her continued presence (in Twitterland?). I just remember some story bible she suggested where a woman was in love with two men and she wanted that heroine to profess her love for both men by shouting it out to the whole town in the middle of a church service or some such nonsense.

maybe it sounded ridiculous at the time, but now it sounds better than anything Days has done in years. If you’re reading this, [S.W.S.N.B.N.], I approve!

Right around the time GL was cancelled, I connected with the real Todd Strasser on Facebook. He wasn't pleased to find out he had someone steal his identity. I had been in touch with the fake Strasser long after WoST ceased operations. He continued on with his lies for many years. At one point, Fake Strasser claimed to be dating Jeff Branson from AMC and GL. He vanished after I shared with him that I was attending a play reading in NYC featuring Branson. Guess he realized his lies were about to be exposed, so he just disappeared from sight.

lolol, I miss that delightfully weird cast of characters at WoST. We were quite the island of misfit toys. Though YouTube has given us more than we could have dreamed of back then, between that and social media it does feel like the internet has lost a certain je ne sais quoi.

Have we learned nothing from Jonnysbro and other similar posters?

Some people thrive on attention for whatever reasons and its best to ignore.

    Eventually they will move on...

I know Donna from RATSC, where she posted for many years... She is not a Jonnysbro-style troll. Y'all can be a bit cliquish, my goodness.

All I can say is Amen, Brother! Next think  you know it was time for Ollie North!

That makes me think of Donna Love!

    Right, Goutman said no.

At, or near, the end of ATWT, I liked all of the veteran ladies on that bus. Remember that day? I didn't like the last day at all. It just felt morbid.

I think that was 2006 for the 50th anniversary, unless you mean something else.

  8. Why does Nicole always look like she’s on the verge of tears? Why can’t somebody tell Ari Zucker how irritating that is?

Xander and Rolf were fun to watch on this Columbus Day. The rest of it was OK. Hope dropping the rosary repeatedly was classic Days’ obsession with inanimate objects.

Going dark for six months? Yeah, that’s not a great sign. IIRC Port Charles did that and never came back. Is Days finally on its ninth life?

Good lord Donna. I will take JFP anyday over Ellen Wheeler!! Jill was at least a strong woman who made hard decisions, unpopular or not. Ellen Wheeler was an embarrassment to GL. Peapack was a worse decision over killing Maureen Bauer.  Peapack? I still shudder over that mess. No wonder the show was cancelled.

We have to realize, though, that the writing was on the wall. I do respect her for a last ditch effort to try something different to save the show. It was a disaster, but at least they tried.

    Great interview! Thanks for posting!

Btw, I love how all these actors complain about the commute to the AW studio (from Manhattan to Brooklyn and vice versa), like its so far and takes so long. Depending on where you are, what time you leave, it could take a half an hour maybe even less. As someone who does commute from Brooklyn to Manhattan to Queens everyday, I can honestly say its really not that bad, especially in the early morning. It can be bad, but it's not all bad all the time.

NYC was different back then. People simply didn’t go to Brooklyn. It just wasn’t done in polite society.

It's easy to forget that from their point of view Brandon Barash was brought in as an emergency recast for an actor / character that wasn't working, so of course they probably thought they could safely kill him off. Of course, then Stefan / Gabi took off and because of filming 30 years in advance they couldn't take notice of this and modify their plans.

ETA: This would've been filmed in February and I believe Barash started airing in March, so...

Even so, I don’t get going through the motions of pretending a Dimera is dead at this point. It’s been done to death.

I have trouble remembering who wrote what but I do remember his writing was very uneven. Things were either excellent or horrible with not much in between. I am probably in the minority with this opinion and I’m not even sure he wrote it but, if he did, my favorite storyline of his was the Rose murder mystery. It got rid of of Rose, which was a plus for me, but I loved that he made Will the killer. Most whodunnits on soaps are big letdowns because the killer is always some background, disposable character. Never a main character, never a member of a main family and never a kid. Sheffer broke all three of those “rules”. It was a great mystery with a good, and shocking payoff.

Yes, that was him, and ITA with this (Lol and agreed about the getting rid of Rose part.) This may have been the last time the show was consistently good to me. Another rule he broke was that Rose died believing Paul had done it. That’s dark.

  13. I think he also needs to be given props for trying to develop the black characters more. Granted, nobody was really satisfied with the Jessica/Marshall storyline, but it was a daring thing to do for the time. Actually, I couldn’t see a soap doing that today. I think he was trying to stretch the limits of the genre as much as he could.

I think if I rewatched 2001-2005 I might have a newfound appreciation for some of it that I didn’t have at the time. I did see some scenes from around Rose’s death recently, and it was head and shoulders above what would come later...
