I have to agree on this. Watching some of that timeframe again and it's not nearly as bad. I think we tend to watch things at the time through a certain negative lens and then years later, rewatching, I feel differently about a lot of things I didn't like when I watched originally, lol.

They even had a good conversation between Denise and Lily about race. It wasn't major or groundbreaking but I stopped and it caught my attention.

Considering what came later, it's crazy that 1999-2001 ATWT to me is much better than I gave it credit for. For me though it's a lot of little things, not necessarily the storylines.

Ha, I just watched that one too (unless there was more than one) where Denise brought up that Hope was biracial. I was floored. That would have been very unusual for the time.

I had the same thought. It was better than I gave it credit for at the time.

I wonder what the ratings would look like if they just DECIDED "Okay we're going to start from March 7th, 1998" and just kept it going until they can film new episodes.

I so wish they would, but they probably won't. I think probably because standalone shows like Law and Order have always done great in reruns while serial shows do poorly.

Yes to all of your questions.

She’s been in for about a year (which has actually been two years in Salem time). Apparently her jealousy of Ciara was what pushed her over the edge and she tried to burn Ciara in a cabin, and framed Ben for it. Then when she was dating Tripp, she became jealous of him and Haley and tried to set them on fire too. When she was exposed, she realized she needed help and was sent to Bayview. But if you ask pretty much any poster on here, myself included, the storyline was written for no reason other than to prop Ben.

    Got it! Thanks again!

I also have to give a mention to ATWT for the absolutely atrocious treatment of the Denise storyline. What should have been a compelling baby swap storyline, on a show that was competent and more willing to not stack the deck, instead became the perfect, loving white wife and mother vs a black stripper and crack addict who sold her child. As if that wasn't enough, they had the character go around fighting with people for most of her first months on the show, complete with a terrible scene where she went after Camille for being "high yellow." I don't think the audience ever forgave Denise or gave her a chance after that introduction.

Not sure I agree with you on this one. To be sure, the storyline had its issues, but I was recently rewatching some 1999 ATWT and Ben/Denise/Camille are all very frontburner... more frontburner than I'd remembered, even. I recently watched one where Denise had a flashback to her one night stand with Andy and it was pretty sexy! And, I mean, they did give her a child with the son of Kim and John. Give them some credit.

On the flip side, maybe the sad thing is I grew so used to the shaft CBS daytime has given black characters for 20 years now that seeing a CBS soap do the bare minimum was shocking/impressive to me.

Will and Sonny were SO bad on Monday’s show it was unreal.

They practically laughed out loud during their scenes. Those were not the smiles of characters who were happy. They were the smiles of actors who were breaking and literally making a mockery of their dialogue and story.

    Just absolutely sickening.

I just don’t know how they, as actors, could elevate the material. No men, gay or straight, would act like this. I’m not saying people here have to give them a break, just something to consider if you haven’t already.

Oh dear. I remember how pathetic both of them looked. (Not gonna deny D.J. Lockhart-Johnson was attractive but still...)

Oh here’s the clip of Margo salivating over him:

Saw you covered “Kong” in the Y&R thread...

Lololol, I am cackling. I thought this storyline was awful at the time, but now it's circled back around to so bad it's good. I mean, it's at least more interesting than anything else Margo did in the last 10 years or so.

  7. Abe/Kate is not working for me. Kate works best with a hot young stud muffin. There’s a reason DAYS has gone back to that well repeatedly.

I miss Horita. A good HW would've ran with it for yrs. Instead we got a smirky Will with Sonny 🐻 Acting like a sexless old couple. Going through the motions.

Not only are they boring and sexless, but I almost lost my lunch when they discussed combining their sperm. TMI!

John ripped Victor a new one, which caused Victor's blood pressure to spike, but he turned out to be ok in the end.

Xander and Brady argued about Sarah and Kristen and the baby. Sarah walked in and planted a big kiss on Brady in front of Xander to make him mad. Brady then vowed to Sarah that now that he's back as CEO of Titan, he plans to destroy the company in order to get revenge on Victor.

Eric and Nicole called Sami to tell her they were engaged. Sami pretended to be happy for them but then texted Eric, and told him he was making a big mistake

Will and Sonny talked about having another baby

Justin and Sonny spoke at Adrienne's grave about Justin proposing to Kayla. Sonny then gave him his blessing.

John encouraged Steve to fight for Kayla. Steve then went to the hospital, only to walk in and see Justin proposing to Kayla.

    thank you, AbcNbc247!!!!

  9. Nothing against Galen Gering, but Rafe is so boring. Is this storyline over now?

    I love Lani’s new braids.

Abigail: I don’t wanna traumatize my kids, so I’ll just leave them without saying goodbye.

Ciara is such a dumb ho bag but I probably would be too if I were her.

I loooove Gabi. She’s making it impossible for Jake/Stefan to stop thinking about her ❤️

  10. All bitching aside, I really don’t think Days is currently that bad. They serve up lots of vets on a daily basis, and do a pretty damn good job of integrating vets with younger characters. And the fact that they do this on the same budget as a lemonade stand is impressive.

The storylines are mind-numbingly stupid, but that has been a DAYS trademark since Reilly and is part of the charm.

I've always found it interesting that a character whose rise in prominence aligned with the show's rise in the ratings didn't have any fans. Clearly SOME viewers like her but you get online and you'd swear everyone hated her. Soap forums are really an echo chamber sometimes.

They really are. But it’s a blessing and a curse, and something that I think is indicative of the tradition in each family of an oral history being told for each long-running soap character, with details being embellished or left out based on which family member was telling.

How many soap fans swore that JFP and the Dobsons came to near collision at the Daytime Emmys as they each sought to claim the Outstanding Drama Series statue for themselves? And then years later, we finally saw the clip on YouTube only to discover that no such moment existed.

    Never change, internet soap community!

  12. So I've been watching DAYS almost every day since the quarantine started. And I don't understand who the little boy they're all fighting over is. They've done just a horrible job with this storyline.

Who is this little boy exactly and why are they all fighting over him?

Don't answer that, as it's a rhetorical question. I neither care nor understand why I'm supposed to care.

Did you have other ideas for a Ridge recast or should the character have remained off the canvas? Some names I read thrown around online were Peter Reckell and J. Eddie Peck, but who knows whether Bradley Bell approached either of them.

B&B works different than most shows. With B&B you had the big four Brooke/Ridge/Eric/Stephanie. You couldn’t touch those four. If Ronn Moss didn’t want to do it anymore, they should have killed him off.
