The question then becomes did Rachel delude herself to believe that Steve loved her, or was she just being cruel to Alice during a fight?

I'm inclined to believe that as much as Rachel craved Steve's affection, she was aware of the truth.  Which is why it was easier for her to move after he died.

    Both! Definitely.

And for God's sake, Jamie was not conceived out of love! Steve could barely stand the sight of Robin Strasser's Rachel.  He saw her as a working-class tramp, who he could screw once, and forget. Too bad Rachel was also Steve's sister-in-law, so she did not go away as easily as he had hoped.   LOL.

I'm glad you said this. I was thinking that Rachel was more an itch that Steve would allow himself to scratch on occasion. Of course, if he had not done so & kept it in his pants he'd have saved himself a world of trouble but there'd have been no soap!

That was February through spring or summer 1989. Swajeski had been headwriter for several months.

Okay, that really works for me. Y'all don't like that time period, remind me why? And, thanks for the reply.

80-82, when I try to watch that era, often seems incredibly dull to me - just lifeless, with an influx of dull new characters or iffy recasts. I can see where Swajeski's is worse, and certainly lacks many of the best of the early '80s, but the overall ensemble, at least up to mid 91 (I haven't watched a lot past that point), helps keep me more entertained, especially the spark plugs like Carmen Duncan, Anna Stuart, or Anne Heche.

When I think of Anne Heche beginning, July 1987. Then how long till Felicia's birthday party? That was Anna's first week back. Felicia had hair extensions. The party was this big deal with a Hall of Mirrors & Derek being the Strong man & Nicole shot Jason Frame. It just kept on being good. Who was writing?

I saw it on Facebook, it had been posted by her ex-husband, Tim Matheson.  I have no idea why it was posted on my FB feed, because I am not FB friends with Tim Matheson.   But there it was, this morning.

    I looked. Didn't find it.

Cause Vee all I see here is "give the new writer's time, they're cleaning up the mess from the previous writer's"

As I said this doesn't feel like they're cleaning up a mess, this is a new story that makes Anna look stupid and incompetent

Well, they are doing clean up but it's possible for them to start new things, too.

And, there's no guarantee that all of the fans are gonna like all of whatever new they introduce. Just because you don't like the idea of Anna putting Sexy Dexy on at the PCPD (which I can certainly see people questioning) doesn't mean you're not gonna like everything new they do. One new story can't be made into a trend. So far they've done Marshall, inherited, and Heather, inherited, and now this. I kinda feel like Anna is hiding him in plain sight & just daring Sonny to touch him. It's certainly different.

-- I can't believe how many here are still posting about Jagger's hair color and hairstyle. I don't understand the near-obsession with getting a recast who looks more like Sabato, who left decades ago.

-- Regarding GH firing their Black writer: Why didn't anyone there realize the optics here are horrible? That they needed to announce the addition of a POC at the same time as that firing?

Yes, new head writers should get their own team. But you're telling me they can't find another Black writer??? They're either ignorant, or they just don't care.

We don't know that they won't have diversity as a part of the new team.

But, in a way I think they do miss the boat on optics all over the place. The visual at Spencer's Memorial. Not having Trina on at all for 3 weeks. White people who could & do have opportunities to offer her condolences, don't.

So, I definitely think the issue of optics is an issue. But I think it's worse than just optics. Tell my why Laura hasn't offered Trina condolences. I honestly don't think Frank & gang are racists but some stuff looks like they are. Someone told me they thought they are unintentionally racists. Scratching my head there, not sure what that means.

The only thing I felt was off in the Trina/Joss talk today was that Trina apologized for being "Bitchy" the other day. Trina you werent. You were in your valid feelings. Continue to own them. That is your right.

I didn't find anything off in either day of Joss & Trina. Thank God they are writing her grief. Being numb, stuffing her anger for weeks. It was natural for her to take it out on her safest person. Deep down she knows Joss will forgive her. To me she definitely was being a bitch, which she is entitled to be. Anger is a part of grief. Mutual apologies & hugging it out was perfect.

Day 9 Mulcahey/Korte So today was weird. It was like we went back to the previous style with shorter scenes & more cuts back & forth instead of the longer scenes we've been having.
Loved the fight between the kids. Hated Sam going all stereotypical. She'd have died if she'd seen Danny's face when she said he can never see Jason again. There's no way he's going to live by that new law. That he can never see his father again.
Sexy Dexy is gonna be a cop?!! Do cops get time off specifically to have their hair done? But, Anna was quite enthused. It's like she's hiding him in plain sight & just daring Sonny to touch him.

Team Jason: Jason, Carly, Danny, Michael, Willow, Spinelli & Maxie still p*, Joss, Brook Lynn, Anna, +Molly
Team Anti-Jason: Sam, Cates, Alexis, Sonny, Drew, p* Lois & Nina, Trina, Chase, Jake, p*Ava, +Kristina

Sometimes writers are let go because they don't gel with the new head writers and/or their writing talent is deemed inferior (despite what a few hundred X posters say after a particular outline appears on TV).  We just don't know the full story in each case.

Most writers in daytime are fired multiple times with the exception of Doug Garland who left The Doctors to write GH and quit GH because Monty wanted him to move to CA and GL because of Allen Potter. Loving because his contract was up and he got the ATWT turns gig.  Even Aggie has been fired from AMC.

Shannon is a newbie who got a break and that's wonderful.

Is this a typo or an autocorrect for Douglas Marland? Although he quit GH over "seduction". And, something happened between him & Agnes Nixon at Loving. She even removed his co-Creator credit. GL was over Potter firing Jane Elliot midway of the 3 Carries story. Topical to now he was Patrick Mulcahey's mentor.

The show could have helped by giving him more of a salt and pepper effect than blond and gray. And a haircut.

I've been bitching & whining about him  needing a haircut since Day 1!

But, besides that I have no problem with him as John Jacob Whatever ...

  11. Someone reliable on the AW thread (Mona) has said he saw where the AW villain "Olive Randolph" has died but no date & I cannot find an obit. If anyone can find the missing info, please post. Of course, I know you will. This info is from IMDb.

I just saw on another site that Jennifer Leak (AW's Olive Randolph) has passed away.  I am not sure of the date of her passing.  Olive was one of AW's great villainesses at a time when the show needed characters like her desperately.  AW had just made the transition to 90-minutes, Rachel had more or less completely reformed, and Iris would leave the show for Texas in about a year. Unfortunately, Harding Lemay wrote Olive into a corner -- making her so wicked and criminal she had to either go to jail, a mental institution, or die.  So Olive was written off.  Had Lemay made slightly different choices, Olive could have made trouble for the Cory's, Matthews, Loves, and Frames for years into the future.  Not to mention, Jennifer Leak was a wonderful actor.

Where did you see it? I can't find an obit.

We have no idea why she was fired. For all the talk about PM coming in, Korte has worked with these writers for years. She may have strong opinions on who they should keep.

I think the idea of refreshing the team with people not trained under FV’s style is a good idea, because they have done only plot driven stuff for years.

Breakdown writers traditionally had a large role in shaping the day to day show, and that has been an issue on GH for a long time.

I hope any hiring they do focuses on mentoring talent and diversity. As Peace said, she brought that perspective and maybe didn’t get enough of a chance to do it more. They may still bring in other writers that have worked with PM, but I still hope they work on diversity too.

Sonny’s conversation with Michael was great. I recognize this Sonny. I wonder if people that started watching or came back during the last few years would be shocked by him. This is as close to a 2000’s Guza era Sonny we have seen in almost a decade. The nice part is that people are standing up to him! How different that decade could have been if they really did this back then.

Ava is the most out of character which adds to my belief that she is up to something.

Anna realizing the shooting doesn’t make sense and getting the truth as we understand it so far from Jason was great.

Carly throwing someone out of Kelly’s/Bobbie’s wasn’t as fun as her strutting around The Metro Court, but she is also recognizable again.

THIS again 💯⬆️dammit titan get out of my head! 🙄🙃👊🫰👌😉🤣🤣🤣This is me if I were this articulate.

As a matter of fact Contessa knew about several GH happenings prior to the press. At least two. The last Molly recast somes to mind. And the usual suspects were mocking her. As usual.

Well, thanks very much for that. I was told to go & read what people at Daytime Dish have been saying. Going by them I was right more than anyone else ... uh, I think they're saying ... ever ... but that just seems too weird.

But with Charlotte Gibson-Bauer being a scriptwriter at the same time, I'm confused.

Yes, I was confused, too. Carolyn Culliton once said to me that at the end of AW she was not in the writer's room because she was a Script Writer. So, from these two things do we perhaps deduce that everyone BUT script writers is in the writer's room? And, if so, I wonder why that would be? And, if that is so, what in the hell kind of odd technicality is that?!

SHOCKER: General Hospital Fires Sole Black Breakdown Writer

I remember when people were fired for not performing to the best of their duties. Happens all the time in sports. Businesses take a different direction to better succeed all the time. What's the problem here? I don't have the inside track that all of you seem to have. People can be fired for not living up to expectations in every day life.

I don't know what you mean. But, as occupations go, I believe that soap opera writers get fired quite a lot. If this is not relative to your point, sorry.

I don't understand why after 35 years of stories and characters to choose from, you would pay tribute to a long ago plotline about a gorilla.

It's not as though it was up there as one of AW''s memorable moments and much loved/referenced by fans.

As for Beverlee returning, they could have asked Beverly Penberthy,Richard Bekins or a host of others to return. Even Carmen Duncan to bring us up to date on Iris.

So many possibilities not considered or rejected.

    And, I must agree!

I mean, not then immediately turning to Carmen Duncan was this classic "this person or NO ONE ELSE" mistake! (Ellen Wheeler: Peter Simon. Frank Valentini: Julie Berman & JJ.)

Oops. I thought I read Shannon say she was the only POC. Must have misread. Thanks. Yes, what I read actually says "only female black breakdown writer" which is different from what I thought I read. Mea culpa.

Copy. At that time my understanding was the mandates were something that would be in place for the immediate aftermath of the virus not forever.

Understood. No one knew we might have to deal with Covid on & on. If it had not been overturned I just bet Disney would have it in place, today. Big corporations are not very nimble. If something is on the books, tends to stay there, unless challenged. And, it would have been challenged. So, ...

  20. About the 2-day finale I have gone all the way around the world on it. I began explaining why the gorilla was an homage. And defending Goutman because of things he had supposedly wanted to do & was denied.

Now I don't defend Goutman much. Beverlee to me was inspired. It wasn't his fault she could not. And, the device with the guests wishing the new couple well on the video recorder also inspired.

But, I am aware of its reputation as one of the worst finales in all of daytime.

Deserved or not, ... I guess I both hate it & love it.
