Oh, it was there. But it was tissue-thin. It was like, every moment she was free from trouble she would childishly set out to do the worst thing in almost a procedural way. It would be accompanied by exactly one scene of her hesitating or feeling guilty. The barely-implied internal struggle was so microscopic. The show was definitely better with her, though. It's also possible she was better in the first year, which I didn't see.

People always say this, but I don't agree with it. Hillary was IMO way too one dimensional and unlikable. Any subtlety or nuance came from MM, not the writing. Another actor may have made it excruciating. Of course, I didn't watch Jill's original run, but I have to believe she was more likeable and human than Hillary. The fact that people saw humanity in her just speaks to MM's credit.

I thought the whole point of Jake was that Stefan had become untenable. Jake was great when he first appeared, but like all Salem Brains, he eventually lost it.

Recasting Belle and Brady would be amazing. I don't dislike either of them. I do think MM has consistently played Belle as overly calm and mature, with occasional slight anger, and it never fit the character, and frankly it doesn't do her any favors. I don't think she's the kind of actor capable of doing good work on Days, but it's not entirely her fault. EM should have just been someone else.

In another time, Xander and Sarah might have been fan-favorites. They have the damn charisma and this show corrupts it.

Seriously, given the resources they have, compared to GL at the end, I think they are much worse.

If MM is cardboard, then Mansi was tissue paper. I actually haven't liked MM as much since they told her to give Abigail more attitude; it seems forced, IMO. Her original portrayal would have meant something if the dialog and stories weren't so bad.

I was initially looking forward to this shite, but as it turns out, I haven't felt compelled to watch a single episode since September or October.

I'm not even watching this, but it sounds as bad or worse than '05 (which I also didn't watch... LOL).

I liked him on GL, but not Days or Y&R. Rey was better than Dario, IMO, but not by a lot.

Maura West always sucked the energy out of me, straight through the screen.

No idea what she's like in real life, but as an actor, she would benefit from not being on a show that brings out the worst qualities in actors. The thing is, you have actors on soaps that are good despite the material, so why is it so difficult for most of them, even really good ones, to transcend the material? Is it an issue of training? Like a classical musician who can't play anything that's not clearly written out on a sheet vs. one who can improvise freely with no written music?

I read that last line for a second as "Does Belle have a secret (colder) twin?" and I thought, if anyone were colder than Belle, they'd be a chunk of ice.

Exactly. He was pre-ruined. Just because he was a good actor doesn't mean there was ever any potential.

Just before the new possession started, Days was terrible, but still somehow it was heads and shoulders above the other soaps. It almost seemed a little like a soap. I'd ask what drugs Ron suddenly got into, but I think they're endogenous.

Exactly. No one is digging this. It's not even good as a joke, and I mean that's how I viewed Days after the original Possession.

FS could have been attractive regardless of his weight. His acting, hair, and clothes were ten thousand times more of an issue than his weight, IMO.

Yeah Ron, keep giving me reasons to not watch the show for the next year and a half or whenever.

For years, I've thought Robert Newman would be a good Bo Brady recast. Not sure why, but I couldn't picture anyone else. Somehow recasting Bo is like this giant impossibility, even though RKK was Bo to me because I was too young to remember Reckle's first run and he didn't seem that impressive when he returned.
