  1. 22 July on Netflix!  Must see movie about the 2011 Norway terrorist attacks.  Superb!

Is this Paul Greengrass's film? I heard it is absolutely excellent.

  2. Bohemian Rhapsody was really good. Rami Malek gave the performance of a lifetime. Glad to hear it OVERperformed, surpassing expectations.

I hesitate to see it, like DRW said, because of Bryan Singer's link to the project. I also read a review that said the movie was anti-gay and basically put Freddie Mercury's sexuality as the 'reason' for his problems with the rest of Queen. To viewers of the film, would you say that was true?

  3. I've been watching this trailer for Dick Cheney film 'Vice' on a loop. Don't know whether the film is any good, but the trailer is an amazingly cut music video! Also featuring Sam Rockwell as George W. Bush.

Haha yeah it's the voice, I think, and some of his facial features which are distinctively SC. But there is an early shot when Cheney (LOL Christian Bale in case you didn't know) walks into an office, and Carrell looks uncannily like Rumsfeld.

It will be interesting to see how the film portrays the Cheney-Rumsfeld relationship. Bros? Peers? Or did Cheney look down on the (smaller, shorter) Rummy?

Thanks for the heads up about the Esquire profile! Going to check it out.

Same here. I'd never heard the song before and now I'm like 'where have you been all my life?' It is permanently lodged in my brain. The lyrics fit the trailer so perfectly -- "Right hand to God / First in command / My testimony, but I take the stand" really stands out besides the ubiquitous "I'm the man with the plan" lol

Not gonna lie, this trailer is making me really want to see the film. Christmas Day! That's a long wait.

  5. I knew the killer in Sharp Objects from the very first scene they appeared, but the series is still a towering and supremely satisfying achievement of TV/film with incredible performances - and owes a ton to soap opera.

I hadn't read the book and while I suspected a couple of characters, I was totally creeped out by the episode -- especially the closing credits!

Totally owes a ton to soap opera (and to Hitchcock's Notorious at one point). It was a dreamlike, nightmarish, horrific fairy-tale. The tension ratcheted up throughout that final episode, wow.

Amy Adams and Patricia Clarkson were, of course, incredible, but I thought Eliza Scanlen (Amma) and Taylor John Smith (John Keene) were absolute standouts.

I've been re-listening to Vogue, Take a Bow, Holiday, Papa Don't Preach, Material Girl, Justify My Love and Hung Up on a continuous loop this week. Still the Queen of Pop! Still won't let her misogynist, ageist detractors hound her off the stage! May she continue in greatness.

  7. Not sure if it's true. Because I haven't seen it anywhere else. But, I heard on another forum that GH is gonna run reruns all the way from the 29th till Labor Day. That's crazy.

  8. Has anyone watched the first episode of HBO's Sharp Objects with Amy Adams? Thoughts?

I am holding out from reading the book also until after the show has finished airing. The whole thing seems to be a dark, festering nest of disturbing psychological mysteries, and I am happy to remain in the dark until they are slowly revealed.

I'm glad Gillian Flynn is involved in the screenplay for this one too.

Agree with both of you. Completely haunting, with a similar fairy-tale/nightmarish feel to True Detective season 1. Immediately rewatched the opening scene again to get the full import of it. So many little clues and secrets hidden throughout, like Vee said, with the hidden words coming to light. The actress who plays the young Camille stood out, as did of course Amy Adams and Patricia Clarkson.

I am too @Khan This is reminding me of GL packing up and going to West Bumblefuck to film on a shoestring.

Next to leave? Melody. Peter Bergman may be looking at semi-retirement options as we speak, too.

Braeden will hold on somehow until Les Moonves cancels out on golf with him.

  12. I guess it's a sign of the times that when Princess Diana got married, the world was spellbound. Her son gets married and people cannot help but make pics, gifs, be shady, and just HAVE to give an opinion rather than allow the moment to be just that...A MOMENT.

Man I wish I had known you guys were watching and into the royal wedding. I lowkey watched it twice. I loved every second! Gorgeous, perfectly put-together wedding, lots of celeb and fashion sightings, cutie bridesmaids/pageboys, aristocracy looking down their noses at each other, and Harry looking at Meghan with a lot of tenderness and emotion. It was perfect! If people don't want to watch it, let them, but I'll be over here laughing at that fool Princess Michael of Kent getting the worst seat in the house.

Don't forget Caroline Fleming @DaytimeFan ! She grew on me season 3 after disliking her season 2. But yes Caroline S was Queen Bee. As for Marissa, I didn't dislike her as a person, but her nasally voice pushed me to the edge!

I'm forgetting Adela who, if this show had continued, would have settled in nicely.

Juliet was awful. And so, so envious of everybody.

They have literally sold her out for a few pennies. Her father yesterday was talking to TMZ yesterday about how she sent him texts concerned about how he was doing. However, he hadn't responded to her yet -- because he was too busy talking to TMZ first.

@YRBB same. He was wonderful to her and thought she hung the moon, and she looked beyond projected image and fell in love with the person he was. Truly one of the most satisfying SLs on SATC. I never for one second did not buy that they were totally into each other.

I also like that she converted to Judaism, ostensibly for him, and really got into it for its own sake lol.

  22. Surely after we have already shown our collective asses to the world so much over the last few years (much longer than that, really, but...), we can at least stop acting like bitter losers when American athletes don't win gold medals, can't we? Fans like this are why I boycott all Olympics. One of the reasons, anyway. Get over yourselves.

Understood @DramatistDreamer . It was bad form. Bad manners, bad behaviour and bad attitudes seem to be pre-requisites to being part of the administration these days (not to mention religious extremism, racism and bigotry). I know in the WH bubble people lap up the idea of being a douchebag, but on the world stage it translates badly.

He also refused to go to dinner with the SK president and some of the other leaders. Once again, the US isolates itself and cannot be counted on. He went to eat with some US Olympic officials instead. It kind of sends the message that "we don't care 'bout nobody but our own kind."

I don't agree with Pence not standing up to acknowledge the united Korea team, but I understand why he did not acknowledge Kim Yo-jong, Kim Jong-un's sister. Yes, the NK dynasty sending their prettiest and smiliest family member down for the Games was a diplomatic masterstroke. But do not be fooled by the pretty, modest exterior. The Kims are awful people and they treat their subjects in North Korea like dogs. It is an awful regime propped up by fear, mass executions, brutal torture and criminal activity. And just a few weeks ago they were threatening to fire a nuclear warhead at its enemies the US, Japan and SK, so I can understand Pence and 'Mother'  not being psyched to see her.

My issue is and has always been with how the US media propagates the idea that only TEAM USA can and should win gold medals. This attitude, I think, instils a stank attitude in both the viewing audience and some of the athletes where they cannot fathom another team bettering them. Hence when Canada and Russia score higher than the US team at figure skating, we hear snide remarks about skating judges being bullied or bribed to score a certain way. Whereas all I am seeing is some top-tier figure skating from all parties! Maybe because I am only half-American, but at these sporting events I like to cheer for more than one team and acknowledge when athletes are GOOD, period, regardless of where they come from.

Having said all that, I think the attitudes of US snowboarders like Red Garrett and Chloe Kim have been exemplary. Laid-back, happy to be snow-boarding for its own sake, congratulating fellow snowboarders etc. And they are so young, too.

@DaytimeFan I felt the same way!! She was trying so hard to be cutesy and yet cool with the fashionz. Her neediness transcended the screen. As far as I was concerned, Cattrall and Nixon were the shows unheralded stars/MVPs. Carrie & Big, while compelling to watch, basically ended up being Cinderella wish fulfilment when that wasn't the way it was initially conceived to be at all.
