@DRW50 The state of our Hollywood 'star system' is such that these two really are the Burton-Taylor of our time (or they really want to be considered that -- I wonder just how much of this is staged and how much is him really unable to get over her). So you still think he is in the throes of addiction, huh.

      @Soapsuds Love Eva Longoria!

    3. Liberty City

      Liberty City

@dragonflies No, but he did split from her because he was chicken sh*t over the publicity, and then immediately went running to Jennifer Garner, who was a safer Jennifer.

    4. DRW50

      DRW50

I hope he is @Cat but even if he is, JLo is just another form of addiction. I assume those left in his life who are still there for him are waiting for the inevitable crash. I hope my cynicism is misplaced.

  2. Watching Texicanas for the first time and now I am hooked.

I am hoping that Bravo decides to marathon it here before it's time for me to officially head back to my other job. I didn't give it the time it deserves. Now I think I would love it. Same thing happened with me and MEXCIAN DYNASTY. I thought it was too much at the time, but Bravo did a marathon and I was living for their over-the-top-ness, but with relatable feelings.

I hope so too! This should really have been Real Housewives of San Antonio, with a side dose of Univision telenovela. They have this narrative framing to explain some of the cultural stuff and Spanish phrases which IMO overexplains everything. But I guess Bravo was worried we Muricans wouldn't get it and couldn't handle the subtitles. But the fact is, most of these women are housewives, and interesting HW material. The friendship group is real and these women have known each other over 5-10 years. I love Penny, Mayra and even Lorena sometimes. Soapy shows kind of need a gossip like Lorena! I'm on episode 7. Ep 8 is the last one. How I wish there had been a reunion and a S2 to catch the aftermath! Honestly, I am enjoying this more than RHOD S1.

Mexican Dynasties is next on my list!

No reunion :( Well, I know that one of the ladies had mentioned they were shopping the show around to another network before Corona happened (I am thinking TLC, but don't quote me on that.) But yeah, I remember they started the show like how all the recent Housewives seasons this season with a flashforward and then showed how they got there. At the time it was a lot for me to keep up with, but I am sure that won't be a problem now.

Oh, God! MEXICAN DYNASTIES. That...I've been tempted to see how everyone turned out post season. That was how much of an interest I got after binging it. They were something else. It gave me MIAMI vibes but its own flavor. And by MIAMI I mean Season 2. lol. Great cast. Great supporting characters with their own personality. The over-the-top. The scenery. The drama. Some hotties.  lol.  I kick myself for not living it the first time around. I think you will like it. :)

In the end, Harry and Meghan decided it wasn't worth subjecting themselves (and little Archie) to the constant racism and misogyny, especially when Harry is only the sixth in line to be crowned king.

  3. @Vee it's not just you. I hope it gets fixed soon. I am having SON withdrawal symptoms.

So glad it's back up. Serious withdrawls here lol

  4. I've been watching this trailer for Dick Cheney film 'Vice' on a loop. Don't know whether the film is any good, but the trailer is an amazingly cut music video! Also featuring Sam Rockwell as George W. Bush.

I know. It sounds like it was written just for the film, even though I know it wasn't.

The casting fits pretty well - although I mostly see Steve Carell sort of Steve Carell-ing (speaking of Steve Carell Esquire had an interview with him recently complete with a just gorgeous photoshoot).

    3. Cat

      Cat

Haha yeah it's the voice, I think, and some of his facial features which are distinctively SC. But there is an early shot when Cheney (LOL Christian Bale in case you didn't know) walks into an office, and Carrell looks uncannily like Rumsfeld.

It will be interesting to see how the film portrays the Cheney-Rumsfeld relationship. Bros? Peers? Or did Cheney look down on the (smaller, shorter) Rummy?

Thanks for the heads up about the Esquire profile! Going to check it out.

Has anyone read the book it is based on? I have, and am waiting to hear thoughts from someone who knows the source material.

    3. Vee

      Vee

I haven't, but I chose not to because I loved the book of Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl and found the film beautifully cast and made but rushed. She adapted it herself, but it was still a bit too brisk - and I was too close to the book. Flynn is also co-writing this series from her own book.

    4. Cat

      Cat

I am holding out from reading the book also until after the show has finished airing. The whole thing seems to be a dark, festering nest of disturbing psychological mysteries, and I am happy to remain in the dark until they are slowly revealed.

I'm glad Gillian Flynn is involved in the screenplay for this one too.

  7. Jennifer Lawrence hogging the in-flight PA system on a plane in order to lead passengers in a rousing 'Fly Eagles Fly' chantathon. It failed. Check out the woman in 2B who tore out her earphones in deep annoyance.

This is hilarious! I love how NONE of the passengers seem to give a [!@#$%^&*] and just look annoyed. I wish the video didn't cut off.

She can't just drink coffee like the rest of us? She's got to ingest it up her posterior?

Also somebody caption shot her IG where she is hawking some chemical exfoliator. The comment underneath tho

  9. At least 300 people dead in massive truck bombing in Mogadishu, Somalia https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/oct/15/truck-bomb-mogadishu-kills-people-somalia

    1. DramatistDreamer

      DramatistDreamer

I mentioned it in the Politics thread. It's terrible and not getting as much attention in the U.S. MSM where they can't stop talking about H. Weinstein.

    2. Cat

      Cat

It's horrific and as with so many things terrorism-related, it sets a new precedent. I understand the Harvey Weinstein focus, which I hope is going to wake a lot of people up to what is going on out there in terms of sexual harassment and media/legal coverups, but this news event is hugely important. If it were an attack on US military stationed in Mogadishu, it would be all over the news.

    3. DramatistDreamer

      DramatistDreamer

I hope there will be change but the Weinstein case is now being treated as a political football to see which political party is most connected to him. He used his Democratic "cred" to ingratiate himself and draw attention away from his egregious crimes, the same way he donated to women's causes. Trump also has committed egregious crimes, which are still being covered up. There are so many other men (and some women too, no doubt) who are abusing their power to abuse and demean others. I hope those others are made accountable and swept out of power as well.

I agree about Mogadishu. In the U.S., it's so obvious that the victims don't fit into the 'sympathy narrative' template that the U.S. MSM has created for Western countries.  I don't expect Trump to say anything about this, the same way he said nothing about the fallen soldiers in Niger because not only does he not care, but he can't even be bothered to pretend to care.

  10. Goop has just launched $30 'Psychic Vampire Repellent' on her site. Made from “sonically tuned water” (wtf), this 3.4oz “protection mist” is intended to “banish bad vibes” and “shield you from the people who may be causing them.”

Can GP just go away already? She and her brand are laughingstocks at this point.

    1. DaytimeFan

      DaytimeFan

Ingredients: Sonically tuned water, rosewater, grain alcohol, sea salt, therapeutic grade oils of: rosemary, juniper and lavender; a unique and complex blend of gem elixirs, including but not limited to: black tourmaline, lapis lazuli, ruby, labradorite, bloodstone, aqua aura, black onyx, garnet, pyrite and nuummite; reiki, sound waves, moonlight, love, reiki charged crystals

What a load of sh*t. Paltrow needs to DO ONE as they'd say in England.

    2. Cat

      Cat

"reiki, sound waves, moonlight, love" -- um do these things actually exist in solid/liquid form???

She is a total fraud, fronting as some kind of feminist wellness goddess asking questions of Western medical science. In reality, she is preying upon (mostly women's) insecurities about their bodies, while projecting her own unhealthy relationship with food on her target consumers. Perhaps we need to use the psychic vampire repellent on her!

  11. Anybody watching Southern [C]harm??

  12. OK, so where I am they are showing old reruns of Knots Landing. Like, early 80s, people driving huge GM gas-guzzler OLD. Not sure what season, but Karen is married to Sid Fairgate who is being accused of raping a hitchiker he picked up. Oh, and Jane Elliot is on the show as well.

Gonna give Kris Jenner some credit. Before she pimps out those girls, she checks the "john's" earning potential. Now, that's a pimp! Now, one of the young girs has latched onto Jaden Smith.

All hail Queen Pimp-Hustle Kris Jenner! Although I do think that Kris actually cares about her kids to a certain extent (yes, I know that's an unpopular opinion).

Lindsay doesn't deserve an interview, show, etc. She is a trainwreck and needs to get help out of the spotlight. I am so over her.

  19. Marion Bartoli!!! *fist pump* I love this chick! The less said about Andy Murray, though (and the awful Centre Court crowd), the better.

who are great players, too. Because at the end of the day, the only things that matter on that court are Power. Technique. Precision. Talent. Hard work. Mental strength. And the years of sacrifice needed to make it to the Grand Slams.

I watched it once, and haven't since, as I'm afraid if I did I'd hate it. I enjoyed it for that experience. My favorite scene was John Mahoney singing "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" in the car. He was my favorite part of the film, along with Lili Taylor.

    3. EricMontreal22

      EricMontreal22

I loved it as a very young teen (maybe 12? My first girlfriend--LOL--was obsessed with it and made me watch it). Loved it, one of Cameron Crowe's better movies. Funny how appealing I found Cusack back then, and how unappealing he's become to me.

    4. DRW50

      DRW50

Cusack just seems kind of oily and bland and twitchy.

  22. Saw Avengers last night. And now I really want Jeremy Renner and Scarlett Johanssen to get together IRL. Also: Mark Ruffalo -- swoon.

    1. DRW50

      DRW50

Renner and Johanssen both seem miscast to me, although I don't pay attention to Avengers these days, since they kill off and ruin their best female characters for ciphers and special guest stars who would never be on that team.

I'm glad you enjoyed the movie though.

    2. Cat

      Cat

I have not read the comic books so if they were miscast, I honestly couldn't tell you. I thought they were compotent in their roles and Scarlett/Black Widow was pretty kick-ass (as I would come to expect from a Joss Whedon-penned script). I'm not even that big of an SJ fan, but I do think she and Renner have chemistry. Oh, and I was impressed by JR as Hawkeye.

It was a fun movie and one that I will no doubt forget in a few hours. Nature of the beast.

    3. DRW50

      DRW50

Did they do all that quippy stuff where they all uptalk at the end of sentences, or did he just do that on Buffy?

I have to admit I've never been that interested in the Black Widow, but that's just in the comics. She might be great in the movie.

  23. I ain't got the time, and if my daddy thinks I'm fi-ine. They tried to make me go to rehab, I won't go -go -go.
