  1. In the last primary they lamented the fact that many of them couldn't vote in the New York primary because it is closed and only Democrats can vote. Of course New York does have a very early close of registration to change your party, but a lot of these independents and others who support Sanders didn't even want to join the Democratic Party at all because they do not like it. They really have no good ideas or plans other than ranting about the establishment. After the 2016 election a lot of them took over the delegate spots for the state convention and seats for the boards that help decide strategy at local levels. All they did was create tension and after last years delegate elections most of them lost or didn't run because they were in over their heads. One of them ousted the head of a Democratic club that I used to belong to and she was quite difficult to work with and she is no longer leading the club as of last year. She actually was so horrible that the Sanders group had thrown her out. Lots of bad tempered and negative people support Sanders.
  2. It's really uncomfortable how soaps use that as a plot device. I remember being unnerved even as a child by Marty Saybrooke being raped on OLTL and how Todd eventually became a normal character. Marty had been somewhat of a villain before then when she lied on Andrew and I felt like that her being toned down after the rape story line was not a good look. Having a character raped to make them sympathetic doesn't seem right at all. Another time it really bothered me was with Brooke on B&B. It really damaged the character of Stephanie when she sent Andy after Brooke and it seemed like the rape was an implied punishment for Brooke being with so many men. That one still bothers me. And the absolute worst was on Passions when Theresa was raped by Alistair and Gwen turned the music up really loud to so Ethan couldn't hear it and help Theresa. Even for fiction that was just too evil to portray a woman allowing another woman to be assaulted and not help her because of romantic rivalry.
  3. If you didn't get a chance to watch Motown's 60 Anniversary last night please catch it On Demand if you can. It was great.

  4. They were going to come after Buttigieg anyway because he is going to win some of the softer, saner Sanders voters from 2016. This will be their excuse to go homophobic which I'm sure they were waiting to do. Plenty of them have racist tendencies so there really is no limit to how low they will stoop.
  5. He had three children and judging from how people have spoken highly of him I have to imagine he provided his family. Money doesn't go as far as you think it would even for actors and that's why some soap actors end up doing TV movies even when they are working on a soap. I wouldn't be so quick to judge anyone's finances.
  6. I know credit card companies have to collect, but this just seems heartless. It's even sadder that there is division between the family over a fairly small amount of money. The minimum that a soap actor can make per union rules is $2500 an episode so if Kristoff wasn't on much he wouldn't have had too much money in the bank when you consider he lived in expensive California.
  7. If the report had recommended charges then Democrats would have had a better chance at filing impeachment. Instead it's basically a situation where there was clear wrongdoing but not enough hard evidence to bring charges. There is no legal precedent that lines up with much of what Trump and his campaign did, plus Trump Jr. avoided charges due to ignorance. With all that said there is plenty in the report to draft legislation that defines collusion and strengthens penalties for foreign money and assistance in elections, plus add tools to secure elections. If Republicans vote against that or Trump vetoes it, then Democrats can create a good narrative going into the election. "Keep other countries out of our elections" and "preserve our democracy" are exactly the sort of phrases that play on voters patriotism and in a diverse way.
  8. To a great extent the FBI is going to do it's job despite what Trump wants. Federal authorities tend to really dislike militia types and will arrest them whenever possible.
  9. The best way to hold Trump accountable is to vote him out and that has to be the top priority. He can be prosecuted after he leaves office and I think that is the best that can be hoped for.
  10. Looked into a few pages of the Mueller Report, particularly the details of interference. Much of the social media details of that we already knew, including the fact that they co-opted the Black Lives Matter banner. There is a portion that says that Russia got in contact with someone's family, but the name of the family is redacted. Russia clearly violated our campaign finance laws with thousands and thousands of dollars in expenditures in favor of Trump. They basically acted a dark money PAC, so they should be heavily sanctioned.
  11. It's surprising that they are still even doing the awards since daytime is so limited now. Four soaps is too low of a number to even be competitive and all the shows are just getting nominations for existing which is pathetic. The fact that all of Days of Our Lives' wins have been post cancellation of the other soaps is sort of embarrassing. It is sad because I remember how prestigious the Daytime Emmys were despite daytime never being as respected as primetime. Now it's just like a chamber of commerce banquet or something.
  12. Notre Dame is on fire. It's hard to watch the footage.

    1. I Am A Swede

      I Am A Swede

I couldn't believe it when I heard about it. It's absolutely horrible.

    2. DramatistDreamer

      DramatistDreamer

I was hoping that it would not be as bad as what it has actually turned out to be.  It's so much worse.

This is an interesting thread about why a structure such as the cathedral of Notre Dame would be such a challenge to put out the fire.

    3. I Am A Swede

      I Am A Swede

I'm sitting here, watching the footage, and I still can't believe it. I'm not sure why this has affected me as much as it has. I'm not French, I'm not catholic, in fact I'm hardly religious at all. But Notre Dame is so much more than a religious building. It's heartbreaking to think of everything that has been destroyed in this fire.  :(

  13. Trump getting elected changed the career trajectory of a lot of people. Most of the candidates currently running had no intention of ever running or were looking forward to 2024.
  14. Not everyone evaluates all situations individually, though. You have a system of government, courts, etc. filled with people who are determined to use the actions and of one person as precedent to blame entire groups of people.
  15. Going to court and getting dismissed would have been much worse than dropping the charge. Had that happen he would have played the victim even more and create a publicity nightmare for the police department and state's attorney.
  16. Chris Brown had a fairly substantial base of over the top fans. Some girls even went as far as to say he could beat them and they wouldn't care. He still was able to make his label and other parties money. Rihanna also became involved with him again, so that diminished some of the talk of what he did. The issue for Smollett is that he made very serious accusations in a time when hate has dramatically increased and also made it political. He made a fool of a lot of prominent people. He doesn't have a huge fan base and probably wouldn't make anyone enough money for them to hire him.
  17. The state's attorney probably made some error that would have gotten their case thrown out. I cannot imagine anything other than that reason getting this case dismissed.
  18. It's a strong draw for the network so it's not surprising that they are pressing on with it. It is good that they because other people don't deserve to lose work just because of Loughlin.
  19. There was no way that Hallmark Channel was ever going to keep her on after this. It really would be unfortunate if the show got canceled because it's not fair for other people to lose their jobs for something they had nothing to do with.
  20. I doubt he has the sort of cash to pay to play, lol.
  21. You will definitely find those types. Sometimes when I hear some graduates of prestigious colleges speak I wonder how they got there because they don't speak that well and don't seem that smart. To an extent, education has become less about knowledge and more about social status and name dropping colleges.
  22. Charges might be based on who wrote the checks. If Huffman and Loughlin wrote checks off of an individual one as opposed to a joint one then it might be hard to charge their husbands even if they were on board. Looks as if Loughlin may have skipped town
  23. Agreed. It's fairly easy to cry and say that "I just wanted what is best for my kids" on Dr. Phil or perhaps on an Oprah special. Aside from casting some people who might have been on Cinemax late at night Hallmark casting is fairly squeaky clean.
  24. Living in a community with a sizeable wealthy population this doesn't much surprise me. My mom ran for school board and we met a lot of parents who are 24/7 invested in their kids education, especially the mothers. They bankroll whatever they can. The mothers who don't have much money are just as obssesive too and use organizing to gain power. So far no one around here has been caught bribing schools, but they have the same sort of ambition as Huffman and Loughlin probably have. I understand wanting to best for your kids but being dishonest really does nothing to help then in the long run and cheats honest families out of opportunities.
