  1. While her story was never great there, I remember Meg Bennett as Megan Richardson on Santa Barbara, who was another love of CC's that had his long-lost (drippy) son Greg. Her acting was good. I just wish she had better material there.

    May she rest in peace.

The twins were played by Thad Luckinbill; but also his real-life twin Trent Luckinbill appeared briefly as one of the twins or as a body of one of the twins.

That, I didn't know! (I didn't even know Thad had a real twin! That's pretty ironic and wild!)

  3. This is one hell of a blast from the past! Consider when he left the show in '79, I was turning 7 that year! (God, I'm old!)

I just wish he could have returned when Tom and Alice were still around, but I know. Another World.

I do hope [pardon the unintentional pun!] that Hope and Bo can/will also return. It would be such a trip to see Steven (Stephen?) with BOTH sisters! All of Addie Horton Olson Williams' kids together, as it were.

  4. House District 10 goes blue. In ALABAMA. Clearly, IVF backlash and, you guessed it, women's rights. Thus why I think outlets are prematurely counting Biden/Dems out in 2024. AGAIN.

    Polls don't vote. People DO.

The Thorn Birds is a memorable mini-series and book.

We have generational trauma, forbidden love, haves vs have nots, and an examination of religion and the complexity of it.  I do wonder how different Meggie would have come across if Jane Seymour (under consideration for the role) had played the part (same as the part in Hollywood Wives that was played by Stefanie Powers).

Loved that one. My 11-year-old self was sucked in by the larger than life forbidden romance and beautiful score (by the late great Henry Mancini!).

    I even have the DVD.

Ditto North & South with Patrick Swayze and James Read.

Welch gave Silver's talking point more weight because he's a senator. That means less people will dismiss it the way it should be dismissed.

    Doubtful.

The only poll I DO buy is the one about Congressional approval. Like SCOTUS, it is at an all-time low.

The average American has as much contempt for Congress as it does for Trump and/or Biden, depending on which end of the political spectrum one is on.

And Nate Silver has been face splatting for too many cycles now, hence his desperation to remain relevant.

  7. Polls, schmolls.

"Polls" predicted Dump would expertly dominate in his primaries. He has UNDER-PERFORMED in almost every metric predicted.

Polls said Hillary was a lock in 2016.

Polls screamed about Red Wave 2022.

The media hates it, but since Dobbs and the fall of Roe - among other key issues - polls have s-h-i-t the bed ever since.

Could Dump win? Anything is POSSIBLE, but without expanding the base he has left, not PROBABLE, IMO.

But that doesn't mean the nation should be complacent. Vote as if the nation and its democracy is on the line. It is.

I do think it's a worry, as the campaigns against Biden are so active and fruitful, but the goals they hyped up did not get the result they expected. It still doesn't bode well for winning Michigan in November

    Not so.

Historically, uncommitted has always been in the low double digits. If I recall reading, it was around 12% in 2012 and the same "Incumbent Obama is in trouble in Michigan!" tagline was pushed.

He destroyed Romney there that November.

  9. That lone pic of the Horton house set. I forget if this was posted on the board [probably; if it was, I apologize for repeating as I do not mean to troll!], but I do believe that set was also used in, of all things, an ad for Dial soap back in the day! (Days had an affiliation with Screen Gems in its '60s heyday, if I recall reading, which was probably a big deal as a lot of shows fell under that banner. So maybe sets were a part of that?) I just found this pretty funky!

  10. So I was bingeing old Hollywood Graveyard episodes on YouTube, when a visit to Santa Barbara Cemetery in one showed the final resting spot of Christopher Bernau, who naturally played Alan Spaulding. Here is that video. For a cemetery, it seems peaceful, and right near the ocean [if you watch from the start!]. I marked the video at Bernau's segment, though.

I'd argue it benefits Democrats, judging by the last few years. And again, it's gonna be a long 8 months.

    Agreed.

Polling is, as far as I'm concerned, an anachronism in the age of cell phones. Only a certain core actually participates. Polls have fallen down on the job from 2016 on, and it continues.

And, I'm not all that certain that abortion was not on the ballot at all. Not THE issue this time, true, but Pilip is against it, and Dobbs has been a HUGE boon for Dems since women were stripped of bodily autonomy. Again, tonight the Dem candidate over performed. As has been happening for at least two to three election cycles now...

Some voters interviewed even said they voted for Suozzi because REPUBLICANS killed their own bill. So some ARE paying attention.

It is a long way to November. But the momentum for Dems is a hell of a lot more positive than the media wishes.

  12. If one counts old '80s commercials, a micro soap (i.e. about 30 seconds to a minute long) has already happened!

Taster's Choice coffee had commercials/"episodes" with this couple surrounding coffee.

Ditto Country Crock and another couple (although all we saw of them was their hands as they buttered stuff in between their drama!).

    Yes, I'm old.

  13. Funny the talk is still about abortion here [and in elections] because, in watching The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on YouTube last night, Stephen mentioned that, despite so many polls that are screaming about Dump beating Biden, a Quinnipiac poll was released showing Biden ahead of Dump by a considerable margin - with women.

I'm not dumb or arrogant enough to believe that Dump cannot have a chance to win again; the American electorate at large is that stupid.

But, as has been said here again and again, women are still clearly angry at having their rights taken away. As much as the media is pushing for a horse race in the name of the Almighty Dollar and trying to sell the border and immigration as an albatross for Biden and Democrats, well...abortion affects the "every day life" of women voters.

Immigrants trying to cross the border for better lives, not so much.

Still, the media falls for "THE POLLS!" Every. Single. Time. This despite the fact that polls massively overstated GOP wins for the past two or three election cycles and with Democrats continuing to over perform. It is mere wish-fulfillment fantasy for the media, seemingly wanting that Dump drama to raise ratings and the financial bottom line.

Because - God forbid - the news be about informing people and not trying to create news. (Which is why news divisions under the "Entertainment" banner at the networks have forever tainted what used to be a dignified profession.)
