  1. Okay, so I caught a few mins of B&B today after boycotting the past couple weeks, only to get to the line that Douglas told Hope that dead. “Dad was good enough for her,” when talking about Caroline.

    🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

How soon Thudley forgets about the rape and the fake dying story.

Also Thudley needs to see a therapist.

  2. Boy I guess JG chose this week was his week to revisit all of his C and D plots and characters complete with a Winters Wednesday 😵‍💫

After predicting it would be a month before we’d see Lily/Daniel/Heather again, I was wrong by it was only 2 days lol. Of course I imagine we now won’t see them for another month when we have a scene of Billy telling Devon & Lily “I told you so” when Omegasphere underperforms without Daniel.

And Devon and Abby compared themselves  to Heather/Daniel with the way they hurt Chance & Amanda…LOL!

Actual all of Wednesday was FF material.

What in the hell is the Vine doing back?!!? 🤢🤢🤢

Didn’t Ivy have to marry Liam over a green card, despite the Vine being technically a US citizen? Not one of Thudley’s brighter moments.

Last I thought about the Vine was a few years back I proposed a “Who Killed Liam” story with Steffy, Finn, Thomas, Hope, and Vinny as suspects but then discovering a secretly returned to town Ivy did still bitter about the marriage, while Hope left town, Steffy & Finn and Thomas & Vinny got their happy endings 🤣

    It is hysterically hypocritical 😂

So true, and it’s actually pretty annoying as well. Devon has zero room to be judgmental  as he has caused even worse emotional and physical damage before. I think it’s why my opinion of Devon has lowered a bit over the years lol.

    Onto 3/26, Y&R’s 51st anniversary…

I‘m liking the new Sally/Audra friendship and Audra definitely looked pretty in pink. Another highlight is Nate/Audra.

In our throwback to 1996 story of the day, actually Phyllis having a miserable ending was fitting while Danny and Cricket went on with their romp. Phyllis mentioned it was too early for champagne, just how early in the day was it? 🤣

Where exactly is the story about Connor going? Because shipping Connor off to some institution sounds a bit much.

Where exactly is Ashley’s split personality story going as well? The whole thing reeks of a poorly thought out story idea that didn’t fully make it out of development stage.

  5. Monday 3/25, back to reality!

As far as Lily/Daniel/Heather while I’m glad to see Lily finally get to unleash some rage against Heather, the whole thing feels a tad underwhelming. Disappointed about “Daily 3.0” falling apart, but I get the notion with the aftermath the show wasn’t actually fully invested in them aside from nostalgic purposes and have become an afterthought. It’ll probably be a full month before we see these three again.

I had thought Danny & Christine had already left town, so nice to see them having a romp before they actually do leave, and a nice nostalgic reunion in time for the show’s 51st anniversary tomorrow.

However, that coffeehouse folk song that played over their love making scenes was embarrassingly bad…it sounded like a song that would’ve played in the background at Crimson Lights during the Latham or MAB era.

Phyllis pulling the fire alarm was so childish and pathetic LOL. Today’s show proved how pointless Phyllis is anymore.

I like the bond between Nikki, Claire, and Victoria, it’s actually some actual warmth feeing we haven’t seen with Newmans in like two decades.

The show’s ending with the Jordan reveal should have been last Wednesday’s cliffhanger.

Since Soapsuds already brought it up---Kelley Hensley in pretty much any "dramatic" moment. It was the worst acted rape story I've witnessed. I remember laughing as Emily ran through Susan's house, to wash herself in the kitchen sink. Accompanied by her incessant "hmmmmn, hmmmn, hmmmmm" and snot crying. See also any time Emily cracked up.

Have to greatly disagree, while I agree KMH was never the strongest and I became dismayed by Emily as a character overall, I actually thought those scenes were rather harrowing and found KMH to be good in those scenes as well for initial part where Emily went crazy with stealing Diego’s body. What I found laughable and disgusting was the show juxtaposed the office rape scenes with Mark and Connor having treehouse sex, yuck!

ATWT’s worst acted and written rape story came a few years later with Jack/Julia.

Hadn’t seen mentioned yet, but I vividly recall Josh Morrow giving the worst performance as Nick of his life at Sage’s funeral. He sounded like Chewbacca the way he kept moaning. 🙄

I asked @JAS0N47 about that and apparently it only aired on select stations, so it wasn't nationwide. I assume it's the same deal as with those telenovela-ish shows they had in the mid-90s like Acapulco Bay - it was sold to Fox stations, but no fixed or recommended timeslot deal.

I know they had a kids block, so that's why I wondered if they attempted any blocks (even rerun ones to prepare for eventual daytime programming) outside of it. I know Aaron Spelling shows like Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place and Models Inc got second runs on E! rather than Fox stations in the 90s.

Gotcha that makes sense about Tribes. I barely remember it but definitely for better or worse remember Swan’s Crossing all too well lol. Some Fox stations aired 90210 reruns in syndication at like 5PM in the mid-90s but nothing network wide.

But no I don’t recall anything else on Fox in the 90s except for Fox After Breakfast circa 1996-97 which had actual started on FX before moving to Fox. I think Fox aired it nationally in a 9AM slot.

  8. Thank you as always @JAS0N47! Appreciate the info on the DuMont shows as well.

Thank you! Did Fox ever do proper daytime programming or did they leave it all up to the affiliates to handle? 🤔

I know Fox tried to do Tribes in 1990, but that was it outside of Fox kids programming blocks that were usually 7AM-8PM and 3PM-5PM that was about it, and the New World affiliates that Fox acquired that were previous Big 3 affiliates typically pre-empted those blocks. I recall in the mid-00’s Fox did try to push a daytime talk called Mike and Juliet on its stations but the show flopped.

The WB/CW also did a Daytime block in the late 00’s/early ‘10’s but it wasn’t a big deal as some had hoped. When the WB launched “Daytime WB” all the block consisted of was of ER, Reba, and What I Like About You reruns. Eventually they nabbed Tyra Banks, but Tyra lost her syndicated success with the move to being exclusive on the CW and thus only lasted one season. Later on The CW aired a talk show featuring the controversial conservative Bill Cunningham for a years in the block before it finally folded.

Oh God, I forgot about that. And brought to us by master thespian Rodney Van Johnson.

Lord haha it was really bad. I also hated how that show wasted Amelia Marshall. Van Johnson if I recall had a background of acting in those  cheesy action shows of the mid-late 90s that were both syndicated but ended up airing on USA as well (usually starring Lorenzo Lamas) before making the leap to daytime on Y&R, where basically he was a one note villain who had a goon to do his dirty work.

As a "character-damaging twist", Y&R’s Neil holding a comatose Hilary hostage in the boathouse was one of the worst.  No way Neil would ever do that.

In addition to worst twist, I'd nominate that for
"worst-written storylines to cover/explain an actor's parental leave or medical leave"
    (if such a thread existed)
(In this case, it was Mishael's maternity leave).

Indeed I hated it too, and sadly Neil never recovered from that storyline nor was ever given the time too unfortunately.

As gross as the story was that Neil and Devon had share a second woman, Neil’s history of cheating himself it didn’t make sense for him to become some evil sadistic moral self-righteous villain either. I remember Neil being nasty/condescending to Lily about her problems with Cane and Joe around the same time and it just felt so wrong for Neil to act that way.

Nick in a JT mask. What was that nonsense? I somehow blocked out so much silliness of the last decade.

Another ridiculous story…on top the whole all the show’s leading ladies dumping JT into a shallow grave like it was a 1996 Melrose Place episode 😵‍💫

  10. @YRfan23 Out of all the worst absurd Passions twists and turns, wasn’t the worst one was the 5-year long mystery of what was in TC’s shed? Boy did JER really drop the ball far on that one, and he eventually wrote out TC on a whimper.

  11. And yikes, today’s 3/20 episode was just another one of those bonkers dream/fantasy episodes that JG loves to throw at us every other month. I mean it okay there have been worse dream episodes before, and I liked the Cassie inclusion but also had some saccharine weirdness to it plus this to be the big March Madness “cliffhanger”, ummmm 😴😴😴

This is really the perfect analysis of Josh Griffith's writing and leadership at Y&R.

As long as the writing team remains this way, there's no way the show improves. We'll get one story after another having a couple riveting episodes followed by a complete thud of nothing.

    It really is.

And funny, that last part you wrote is exactly why I nicknamed Bradley Bell “Thudley” years ago. Perhaps I need to start calling JG “Thudley II” @YRfan23? 😂

Even post glory years (anything on the show after 2002) Was probably a heck of a lot better then what we have now. Namely 2003-2008ish. I feel drawn to several clips from that era, and I can't help but think "this isn't so bad...." haha

B&B has a weird history because of its ups and downs.

1987-93 is excellent of course because of Bill Sr was in charge, with some obvious missteps here and there which is fine because Bell Sr also gave us two of his finest creations, Sally Spectra and Macy something unique to B&B.

1994-96 was just bad because Thudley was inexperienced, and we got weird stories like the statutory rape stories with Dylan & Jessica, that Jasmine girl falling down the Spectra elevator shaft, Michael Lai, Brooke going inexplicably insane, and a cake fight between Rick Jr and CJ etc.

There was an amazing summer 1997-early 1999 renaissance of B&B, but it fell apart again. 2000-2005 is pretty much B&B’s silver age and Thudley kept that period fairly consistent minus some mistakes and yet ever since then, with Taylor coming back the show has been in some sort of freefall.

Well we knew it would happen @DramatistDreamer, but they killed your lovely Lily/Daniel/Heather idea. ;)

Thanks to being told Christel was on maternity leave, I was actually looking forward to her coming back. IMHO, up until Lily vanished to take care of Mattie, I felt the Lily/Daniel/Heather triangle was pretty (debatedly) well-paced. Daniel and Heather finally slept together. And Devon knew. Well, everyone knew. But no one really told Lily. So there was drama to be mined when Lily walked into Daniel's apartment to surprise him. And she got surprised by 'family' time. But THAT was it? I would rather Lily did what she said she WANTED to do...namely slap Daniel AND DEVON. JG really and literally just sucked the drama right out of that triangle like THAT. I shouldn't be shocked and yet...lol. I did like the beautiful side-eye Lily was giving Heather all through the pre-break-up scenes.

And thank God Audra/Tucker/Ashley showed up midweek. Outside of Victor vs Jordan, I guess I had been waiting on that, too. And as expected, Audra's insecurities is already showing. And wow...Audra/Sally as friends? I wouldn't mind that. And those Tucker/Ashley scenes...mmmm. I liked Tucker is getting a clue, BUT he still fell for it. Giving into the body language TSJ has been displaying as he keeps saying no to Ashley. Speaking of Ashley, her scenes with Abby was straight out of late 90s DAYS OF OUR LIVES.

    I wouldn't mind that.

But also as expected, watching 3-15 and I'm scared they are going to throw Kyle at them again.

Nah I doubt Kyle is going to get thrown at Summer again, I predict he’ll end up sleeping with Claire/Eve, Summer blow a gasket for like 90 seconds and then everything be okay and kumbaya because that’s how JG rolls 🙈🤣😵‍💫🙃🙄

And yes, ED has been giving off 90’s Kristen vibes off the walls lately and I’m here for it, but JG’s writing can’t keep up with it.

As for CKLily, honestly what’s left for her to do at this point beside go the way of Elena? Yikes. As I mentioned above a lot of reckless ego choices CK made way back keep haunting her to no end and lately comes back with a vengeance.

Oh man I just knew Tucker was eventually going to give in to Ashley. When we were stuck in that flashback loop I thought they had killed my interest and love for the story, but I’m back in. I still don’t think that argument with Tucker warranted her having a complete mental break but alas here we are.

Lord what a mess!!! I mentioned all the other times Ashley was seen having a break from reality like learning John wasn’t her bio dad, the abortion, learning bout Blade/Rick, baby Robert’s death, and Adam’s gaslighting but this is obnoxiously bogus ugh.

Lord, I remember Daytime Confidential calling that poor girl "Tammin SurSUCKS". She and Lachlan Buchanan were both clear examples of daytime's many attempts at creating an Aussie to America soap pipeline over the last 30+ years; some (like Ingo Rademacher) are more successful than most others. Of course poor Lachlan came out almost immediately after Y&R and is now living his best life.

I remember @Darn absolutely roasting the Korbel, reliquary, etc. era back in the day. I wonder how he feels with hindsight. I sometimes get the sense the show perhaps had more of a focus on cultivating a new generation then than it does now.

Haha there was plenty of SON posters who used that exact term as well, and in addition to DC using it I clearly remember both Nelson Branco and Daniel Coleridge also used disparaging terms towards TS as well.

Lachlan came out after Y&R? LOL could’ve sworn he was out beforehand… His Kyle came off as too goofy and flamboyant. On the flip side his Dynasty 2.0 stint started off  very strong but ended on a whimper, and Lachlan hasn’t done much for me on Station 19 either.

A little over a year after Colleen’s death, Y&R would go ahead and give us the absolute WORST story in Y&R history and a contender for one of daytime history’s worst stories ever, one that would stretch a whole freaking year from December 2010-November 2011……

    10 hours ago, Darn said:

That period drove me away from the show, the reliquary nonsense, Amelia Heinle's acting and Davetta Sherwood's firing all culminated in me dropping the show. In hindsight I'd happily take that mess back over the last 20 years of absolute garbage.

I quite liked Adrienne Leon as Colleen and I LOVED Lyndsy Fonseca, I thought she looked like a perfect combination of Traci and Brad. I also thought she and Davetta had excellent best friend chemistry. I don't know wtf was happening behind the scenes on the show on that time but their over investment in people like Gloria and Kevin was just mind-boggling.

Oh definitely the Kevin-Gloria happy hour was too much for the show, and Latham and her cronies made too many mistakes that proved so detrimental and even worse whenever someone tired to fix it.

I think I'm over Chance/Summer. What was a happy accident is turning into a bore. Though I love seeing CF shirtless. And ugh at Billy being back, but at least he's mixing it up in story that is NOT Chelsea.

I wish I could feel sorry for Giggly Heffa, but I DON'T. Thank God, Nick walked away from the oncoming mess.

I like to Chance/Summer but because CF and AL are the most competent recast actors Y&R so the show has to restrain and restrict any 😂🤣….that said I still stand with my idea of Chance with his PI business and Summer as his Moonlighting partner/His Girl Friday.

And yeah, Giggly Heffa is a black hole…

    9 hours ago, Faulkner said:

Korbel was hot af, but that’s all the positivity I can give about that story. (Eyal Podell has apparently had a very successful career writing screenplays for animated movies like The Angry Birds Movie.)

These shows are too quick to throw away good characters permanently because they don’t think simply “leaving town” has a big enough dramatic impact (people die IRL tragically, right?), or they can’t figure out a reason for the person to depart the show alive (why would they leave their family, etc., especially if they haven’t done the necessary setup for a prison exit). Colleen’s death damaged so many characters in the long run. Especially Lily, who felt even more isolated in her Cane corner.

All that needed to be fair, agree 100%!

Also, the whole Davetta Sherwood thing still boggles my mind, as does CK whole “Please pray for Davetta!”, then a few years later the whole thing about CK goes on recurring, and ends up going to an audition for her role because the show was looking to recast and CK had a bad agent…like what in the hell really was going on? 🙈

I always feel like CK has really humbled herself over the years because the show has trashed Lily so much over the years and she realized she got herself into the Cane hole she’s never been able to recover from her earlier reckless ego either.

  16. Anything that includes show wrecking continuity really:

ATWT: Either the mystery owner of the Falcon Club being James Stenbeck or “What did you do to my baby boy! I mean girl! Oh never mind I was just gaslighting you…”

    GL: Maryanne Carruthers

Y&R: Jill is not a biological Foster x2 twists, Phillip III back from the dead and gay

Also any character damaging twists, like Y&R’s Neil holding a comatose Hilary hostage.

Both B&B and Days have had more terrible twists I don’t care to list because it would take too long 😂

  17. In a perfect world, characters Billy, Mac, JT, Colleen, Daniel, Lily, Cassie, Raul, Brittany, Adam, Heather, Devon etc. would have lead Y&R throughout the 2010s as Y&R’s 4th generation.

Unfortunately folks like Smith, Latham, and MAB & Co. made some of the most bone headed and reckless decisions ever with these characters.

Brad and Colleen could have easily moved away, open the door for return visits. No reason to have killed them off.

So instead we ended up having to watch characters like Jack, Nick, Phyllis etc play out the same old stories even though they were well way past their prime.

I was fine with AL as Colleen and I had liked that story with her college professor, Adrian as well. I was indifferent on TS although her accent was a glaring issue. I know many people here at the time hated her and rooted for Colleen’s death when they heard about it, but then Colleen’s drowning was such a downer and also occurred the same day GL aired its final episode.

TS had success on Home & Away before Y&R and had huge success after Y&R Pretty Little Liars, clearly the show was the problem.

    34 minutes ago, DramatistDreamer said:

With Leon, I was never sure whether the crappy writing or her performance was the biggest problem I had with the character but I found her characterization of Colleen to lack that endearing quality. And in Fonseca’s performance , even when Colleen was being rebellious and made me want to ground her, she was irrepressibly endearing, kind of like Traci. Sursok, well, about her, I was just indifferent.  Today’s soaps waste their legacy characters like nobody’s business.

Edit: After I thought about it one of the biggest flaws in writing AL’s Colleen faced was the show’s decision to portray her in a more antagonistic role for months towards the Fisher clan during a time when the show was become the Kevin/Gloria happy hour.

  18. @Khan I was wrong, our next big story looks to be finding a new nanny for Harrison!

My purely uneducated speculative guess is Summer is going to end up being resentful/distrustful of newfound cuz Eve/Claire once she learns the whole story while Kyle ends up sleeping with Claire.

Speaking of Harrison, did JG have a bad childhood? Both Harrison and Connor appeared today as quiet, very moody, and reserved kids. It was awkward to watch. Made me actually yearn of all those annoying kids on GL and ATWT back in the late 90s.

WTH caused her DID? It's usually caused by a traumatic event such as incest etc

    Good question lol.

Despite her cool and controlled nature, we’ve seen Ashley go bonkers over trauma before ie learning John wasn’t her bio dad, the abortion, learning about Blade/Rick, the death of baby Robert, gaslighted by Adam etc. but this time it’s because she and Tucker broke up after marrying…?

Of course mental illness runs in the Abbott family, and everyone in the family has experienced some type of psychotic break before. Billy just had his own nonsensical DID a few years back lol.
