Two things are coming to mind.

I feel the struggles with Lola/Kyle is that SHE wants to feel the satisfaction of being able to pay off her loan. If they showed her side more, assuming that is the point, I think it would be a dynamic story.

The idea of a financial imbalance as a sore point in a relationship is a good one as many relationships have trouble over attitudes to money but Lola's actions in particular come across as inconsistent and immature. Which would be fine if we were supposed to see her that way but often character motivations are muddled.

Totally. It’s difficult for audience members who have financial worries to identify with characters who reject generosity from characters we know to be upstanding, but there are *many* reasons why a woman would be suspicious of even a seemingly nice and attractive man like Kyle or Devon offering the world on a plate. As in, “What’s the catch?” “What will I have to give up to live in this man’s world?” Issues of control that might stem from strained parental relationships, previous abusive relationships, political concerns, and just the imbalance of power financial dependence creates, especially for women, etc. (Just anecdotally, I had a friend who became involved with a very nice man who offered trips, a beautiful place to live, an allowance, etc., and once my friend got reeled in, that “very nice man” became an abusive monster, demeaning him, making my friend a glorified slave, etc.)

I never really saw Y&R exploring motivations for Lola’s hesitation, aside from a vague, cliché ideal of stubborn, working-class independence.

  2. I’m surprised a show as soapy as this one doesn’t get much love here. Who is watching? I don’t have HBO now, but I’ll figure out some way, as I became a big fan as the first season progressed.

They should have left the theme song (Michael Kiwanuka’s “Cold Little Heart”) alone. I hate the arrangement  of the S2 version:

True, but if you overlook his win at the 2017 US Open, where, among others, Djokovic, Murray and Wawrinka were absent, you would have to go all the way back to 2013 to find another win away from Paris for him.

And things will only get tougher for him. He's just turned 33, and has not exactly been injury-free during his career, and there are younger players knocking on the door.

I'm not going to completely rule him out, but personally I don't see him winning 3 more titles to equal Federer. That being said, I don't see Federer winning any more either.

I think his window is closing at the other Slams, but the only folks 25 or younger who look imminently ready to win majors are Thiem and Tsitsipas. And Rafa’s main competition (Novak, Stan, Roger, Delpo) are all getting older too. It’ll be an interesting couple of years for sure. I don’t think the window’s closed at RG for another 1-3 titles, but time will tell.

That could prove hard enough though. He's not getting any younger, and I think he will struggle to win any more GS titles away from Paris.

He just made a final in Melbourne, a semi in NY, and lost a tight battle against the eventual champion in London. With some skillful scheduling for rest and helpful draws, which often happen for him, it’s very doable. And that’s not even thinking about the possibility for more RG titles to put him over the top.

They base "The GOAT" off of how many Slams you've won.  How will Fed cheerleaders feel if they have to start calling Rafa The GOAT?  3 more Slams is all he needs.

You know they’ll move the goalposts and say, “Well Rafa won the bulk of his at RG, whereas Roger is more versatile and therefore the GOAT.”
