Globals schedule is updated, looks like mondays show is the David Kimble conclusion and the other 2 so far are 2000s episodes one dealing with Isabella I think...doesn’t look like we will get any Sheila :(

update: looks like Tuesday is an Isabella one and Wednesday is 10/10/03 dealing with Kevin setting Ginas on fire.

so they will pick two different shows from the same year for any 2000s episodes but not the same for the 90s....😒😒

I hope this means they are planning a full Sheila week.

Josh Morrow had a rough patch with hairstyle/facial hair combos in the 2000s.

  2. I was curious if Jon Hamm had any daytime credits (as a jobbing actor who had been kicking around the industry before his Don Draper break, it wouldn’t have surprised me). But I can’t find any. I thought he might have been there to bolster the idea that even a “prestige” drama series like Mad Men was basically a soap, but they didn’t make anything of it. Maybe he was friends with one of the producers? He seems up for anything. Who knows.

I chalked a lot of the Agnes Nixon focus and Bill Bell erasure to the fact that she was ABC. Plus, thematically, she followed the “shows for women, by women” theme.

At least with the longer clips, why not say where the clip is from?

I was comparing this to the CNN decade documentaries, but those were so much more professionally done, with appropriate budgets. They labeled most of their longer clips. Yet they didn’t have these elaborate sets and graphics mimicking slides from a carousel projector, which, again, were eye-catching (and maybe more accessible to a network primetime audience not used to a stark documentary style), but I’d gladly have sacrificed those for better clips.

And you are SO right about the hypocrisy of these networks going after unauthorized uploaders of clips yet using said clips to cut costs in their programming, claiming “fair use.“

  4. Susan Sullivan?

I mean, they aren’t wrong in the ultimate fate of soaps and how they’ve mutated into new forms (any astute observer of pop culture knows that), but it’s telling that they are writing this epitaph when a daytime soap is still airing on their network. GH runs out of original episodes in two days.

I want a proper documentary now. One that delves into the roots. Gotta do it soon before we start losing even more of our early veterans.

I mean, she’s been on nearly every day for weeks now lol

    Touché.

I had the laugh at the irony of seeing Shelly “a woman’s touch” Altman express sadness for the soaps cancellations when I feel she’s contribute to some of of those with her writing.

And she basically said that young writers would take her job from her cold dead hands when she spoke on a soap writer’s panel years ago. She was like “F**k you, noobs. There aren’t enough jobs to go around!”

Wow, nice to see the actress who played Kristen Shepard on Dallas. I was binging the show a while ago and am still watching although at a much slower rate. She's looking great.

    She looks amazing, Mary Crosby!

There's been a lot of renewed energy around classic soaps in the past few years. Hopefully this generatessome sort of reboot of any of the recently cancelled dramas or some kind of screaming episode release or streaming reboot.

This special is trending No. 3 on Twitter, so maybe *some* notice will be taken?

For people wondering, the P&G soaps are going mostly unmentioned.

Yep. Barely acknowledged. Aside from Julianne Moore, a few Reva clips, and the aforementioned Stephen Schnetzer.

Y&R and DAYS are getting a lot of love, but they are still on the air. Not much B&B love, though.

Edit: right when I posted that, Brad Bell appears as if on cue.

I'm appreciating the effort so far. I enjoy seeing some faces I haven't seen in some time, but those clips - wow some of these are so awful.

I remember back in the late 90s there was a special on soaps, I was young so I dont remember what channel it was on but it was similar in nature to this. I was hoping that this special would take a different perspective, but nonetheless it's nice to have something on soaps.

Yes, I also felt that way. It feels like there's no real direction and they're jumping around all over the place.

Really, this could have been a five or 10-part series. They can’t help but skirt over things. They basically name-checked Generations with Vivica, which is more than I expected but still. No Angie and Jesse?

I KNOW!! If they were clips from the 50s-70s, okay, but these are clips for which the masters absolutely exist and could have been pulled.

And how heartbreaking that they processed the hell out of those Loving clips.

It’s like they pulled them off YouTube. Hell there are soap clips from the ‘70s on YouTube that are clearer, even watched on my full flatscreen. Even that Annie/Erica bitchslap clip was a mess and that was less than 15 years ago.
