I love how masks change a person’s voice and physique. Ain’t that something?

I loathe mask storylines with an infinite passion, primarily because of what you just stated.  This is Days. They went the JER route decades ago, and needless to say it can be cartoonish.

But this is the second time ReRon has put Kristen in a d#mn mask. Seriously. He's ran out of things to copy from shows he once wrote for, so he's resorted to copying his lame a#s material from Days.

  2. So, I get to be the one to reveal Ron's asinine, tired, and repugnant plot to all of y'all. Sigh. Don't shoot the messenger. This is in the latest SOD that's slowly rolling out. In other words; this is accurate. Here goes..read below

    Spoiler

Kristen kidnaps Sarah on her wedding day to ensure she isn't exposed. Kristen's total HATRED for Xander over the baby switch starts Kristen's wheels turning. So..ugh...Kristen makes a Sarah mask and decides to have sex with Rex. She'll intentionally stage and time it, and Xander will walk in on what appears to be Rex and Sarah in a pounding session.

IN REALITY XANDER IS WITNESSING A RAPE IN PROGRESS.

Yeah, ReRon is lazy, incompetent,  and I wish he'd stop writing completely. He could always just relax in The Hamptons.

  3. I've been wanting to post here again for a good while, but per usual I forgot my password. I frustrate myself at times. Obviously I couldn't post here until I suddenly remembered it. It's nice to be back.

On to Days, and the continuing saga of how ReRon will self sabotage the show just as it's finally watchable.

I'll save that ridiculous, stupid, repulsive and tired plot for the spoilers page. Still, Christ on a cracker that man is the hack of all hacks.

I LOVE JACKEE HARRY! She lights up every scene she's in. Boy, did Days get lucky.

I'm enjoying the "Who Killed Charlie?" Storyline, solely because of the dysfunctional family interactions. Sami brings much needed tension and conflict to the canvas, especially with her onscreen family.

I wish Rafe would die. Xander has no balls. This Kristen/Susan story is going places. Places nobody asked for and not a soul wanted.

I'm halfway enjoying the show again after loathing it for months. Knowing what I know, in about 3 weeks it's likely going to be painful to to even read recaps.

    Well, Ron will do Ron.

I just hope she's not so whacky. I really enjoy Thaao, so I'm excited he's back. I really wish they'd stop killing him off.

Her last visit proved that Ron is going to write her as OTT wacky.

She carried around an urn, for Christ's sake.  That was so bad....

No, no, no.  You're thinking of Josh Madden, aka "The Unabortion," lol.  That was Erica's OTHER retconned child (whose very existence defied medical science, but whatever).

Kendall was the daughter Erica conceived (allegedly) after being raped at age 14 -- events that had never before been part of Erica's backstory, or even alluded to in the 20+ years prior.

I'm still mad about Kendall, and I'm still mad about Josh, too, lol.

Like I said, I never watched regularly.

I do know Alicia Minshew is annoying AF!!!

  6. Just now, Khan said:

Yes, Kendall Hart (AMC), I am looking squarely at you with @DaysFanatic777's comment.

    OH GAWD!!

I never watched AMC very much, but I didn't have to view it regularly to realize that is the worst example of this crap of all time.

Christ, they undid one of the most provocative and relevant stories of that golden era of soaps, to grace us with a character I could not sit through for ten seconds.

  7. 10 minutes ago, Faulkner said:

So many of the great soap leading ladies—Erica Kane, Reva Shayne, Alexandra Spaulding, Nikki Newman, Katherine Chancellor, Victoria Lord, Dorian Cramer, the list goes on—has had a retconned child. Very few of those new characters were worth the trouble of screwing up history.

And said children always get shoved down our throats, many times in favor of legitimate offspring that we have grown to know and love onscreen.  That makes the entire plot point even more annoying.

Oh, and I just *LOVE* it when a retconned child is created while pissing all over history.  The latest example:  Stefan O. Dimera on Days.  The entire point of making Vivian insanely jealous of Carly was that she didn't have the capability of conceiving a child.  Her jealousy over Nicholas plainly boiled down to her barren womb.

It also made it even more unbearable when Stefan turned out to be a s#it character and a clown of a villain.  I can stand it better now that Barash is in the role, however.

I think even towards the last year or two of Marland's stint, things were slowly deteriorating. It just got expedited when he left us as no one knew how to tell a damn coherent story. A series of really unusual blunders were made by people who didn't understand the show. All of the P&G soaps were experiencing a rough patch during this time, and hiring people like MADD to oversee them didn't end up being the most intelligent decision.

I think Ed Trach's retirement at P&G marked an end of an era for those soaps - they just weren't managed effectively after he left. Granted, I do think he favored ATWT/GL over AW, but that may have been because P&G had a stronger relationship with CBS than NBC.

EVERYTHING you just said.  I mean all of it.

It seems like a lot of the greats had a hard time taking someone under their wings, and that left us with the mess we have been viewing for about three decades now.  Sheri Anderson was schooled the right way, but I start drawing blanks after that.

From what I read Terry Lester (Royce Keller) was a friend of Doug Marland and after Marland died, things went awry.  I guess somehow Lester didn't fit into the newly evolving show structure without Marland.

AW had offers to keep it going but P&G didn't want to sell or make any type of agreement that would save the show.  Looking back, it's obvious they gradually aimed to divest themselves completely of their entertainment properties and they didn't want to turn over their properties to any other entity.  ATWT also had an offer from CBS to save it and P&G refused.

P&G gave a limited amount of time to the SoapClassics people to convert some classic episodes from their titles to digital (like, what eight weeks or so, if that?) before they snatched it back.  Not even a year.  Not even a season.  A big part of the problem of what happened to these soaps rests with P&G and the dysfunctional ways in which they operate.

Suddenly, it all makes perfect sense.

The way Packer and Backus wrote Lester out was abrupt and ridiculous.  However, as usual Lester's performance saved the day.  Once he was done, they were done....to be honest.

Is your gay couple getting a bit too hot, sexual and overtly gay on your daytime soap opera? Fear not, because whether your show is called Days of our Lives, General Hospital or One Life to Live, there's always one clear answer: A baby. The ultimate living, breathing cock cage for any homosexual on a soap opera! Because even if your gay male is not into the ladies, there's always some dumbass reason for him to a) push push in the bush with the nearest female friend and a bottle of Jack or b) just go family shopping at the ripe old age of 25.

And if you're worried about little obstacles like birth control with the lady in question, good news: This Denny's is open 24 hours! She's gonna get pregnant, and before you know it that virile young male who likes penis, amyl nitrate and leather (not necessarily in that order) will have one focus and one focus only in life: The heterosexual-passing lifestyle of a fortysomething man with a family sized sedan. "'Anal?' What's that? I barely clean my living room!"

You always deliver, and you are spot on right here.

They do it to placate old ladies in the Midwest and South, whom love clutching their bibles like a a drowning man wishes to cling to a life vest.  This genre's obsession with pleasing them has been a factor that has contributed to it's demise.  How can we feel any empathy for a bunch of execs that are satisfied with feeding the smallest of minds?

I'm sorry.....I have not an ounce of compassion to give when they made this a stagnant genre that caters to fear.

I think that is what hurt soaps in the 90s forward. Everyone seemed to forget soap brands. Certain soaps, preferably the ABC soaps and DAYS, could tell over the top stories. It was in their wheel house. I feel like P&G hurt itself by trying to do the same. P&G soaps were always the most grounded soaps and focused more on real issues.

While Another World was on it's way down, I still feel that she could've turned the show around. Another World just needed a few tweaks and it would've been fine and could've lasted a lot longer than it did.

Plus, I blame her for putting Goutman and Wheeler in EP positions, which would cause detriment to ATWT & GL.

    + 1,000,000

    ALL OF THIS!!

The wheels came off this INCREDIBLE drama when Marland died, and they never were placed back on.  I know many didn't like the Royce Keller story, but I loved it.  That was the last story I enjoyed on this show.  Yes, it is post Marland,  but it still felt like an ATWT story.

Past that the show lost it's character chasing stunts.  It was a sad sight to behold, because this was a jewel of a show.

I loved Days, and accepted the camp because it was a standard feature of that show by this time.  ATWT had maintained it's integrity (Well, besides the head shrinking) and had remained a show devoted to character dissection.  I loved it for that reason.  Watching it wander so far from that path was an excruciating experience.

I dont know how this taping schedule can save them money when every badly-received story or character/actor bleeds viewers.

When they shovel dirt on this show next year, we will all be stating the MULTITUDE of reasons for it's inevitable demise....

The taping schedule will be a highly cited talking point.

It was a definite problem when Dena trashed this show multiple times, and it's still a problem today

Cray, cray Claire angrily snapping at Sonny bear & Tumor boy was funny. Cray, cray Claire makes yet another housequest at Uncle Vic's already overcrowded mansion. I almost forgot Claire is a 2 or 3 cousin to both Sonny & Will. At least bummy weepy Nicole wasn't on.  Days production values are bad. I'm sick of the same couple of sets. With an extra or 2. But at least the production values aren't Guiding Light/Peapack bad. giphy.gif

Just when I start to enjoy ORK, she gets the boot.  I LOVE this crazed b#tch now.  Her lighter could be the answer to all of this show's ills.  Lightem' up Claire!  Just do it, for the love of Christ.

Shady Sonny Bear and his tumor ridden twink need to jump from a diving board into the shallow end of a swimming pool.  They torture me.  I should be rooting for a gay couple, but I can't stand by two canker sores.

lol at Will and Sonny and their dead eyes

When I see them, I think of that old spiritual "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot", and dream that they are six feet under.

Yes, they have dead eyes....so why not do us all a mercy and make it official?

If this is what we were destined to receive by reviving Will, I sincerely wish he'd still be in the grave.

As for Sonny, his chubby a.s.s. can walk straight into a sausage grinder.

  14. You know, there are moments happening right now I almost like....

Maggie almost taking a swig was great soap opera, and Suzanne could nail another turn at the bottle, if they let her do it.

I thought MBE did a great job today when that a.s.s. Jack wanted her to sign that horrendous "letter" absolving him.

I also finally kind of like crazy eyes Claire.  Light that pyre, and burn have the cast, you insane little b#tch.

HOWEVER, the horrid production values are distracting, and there are times the dialogue is elementary at best.  Out of every show airing right now, on networks or streaming, I have the deepest connection to this show.  However, that's easy to forget when you consistently find yourself dissatisfied and annoyed.

LOVED them  I was so pissed when they were let go and we got that hack Higley. Fans got her fired the second time. And then she took it out on us during her third time. I can't believe Corday went back to her after fans got her fired. He's such a moron.

Aww, thanks @Gray Bunny love dishing and bitchin' about the past, present and future ... lol. DAYS has been a hot mess for a long time, sadly.

I wonder what happened to Tomsell? I didn't hate everything in 2012 or even 2013 (but I did hate them killing Jack, which has thankfully been fixed, as I expected it would be). 2014 it all went to absolute hell and castmembers couldn't run from the show fast enough!

I miss Renee Jones. I adored her. I just loved seeing her. She was vastly underused most of the time but when she could shine, she SHINED. She definitely deserves her retirement. I hope she's happy. I imagine being fired and rehired a couple of times, she kind of checked out and said you know what? ..... but I miss her

I do. So much. But I'm glad she's happily living her life. Selfishly, I wish her and Reckell would come back. I miss them so much more than I ever thought I would!

Ron's the writer who'd probably love to get her out of retirement or have her play Nikki Wade again! lol. But if she had stayed and Lexie was still alive, I imagine he'd have fun with her.

This place is definitely a gift. I get sad anytime it goes down for maintenance and it makes me realize how much time I still spend here, chatting and bitching ;)

DUDE!!  We cluck like hen's in a chicken house, and it's fantastic.  I'm glad I got a seven day ban on Twitter.

Man, Ron would have given Lexie her bite back, and that is all I ever wanted.  It's unfortunate she likes the country life.  I doubt we'll even get a drive by from her when the show is inevitably cancelled.

Good for her, but not so great for us.

Aw I feel the love   You and @KMan101 are so fun to dish DAYS with: the good, the bad, and the ridiculously cheap

I posted this is the "Worst Executive Producer" thread, but at least on film it's better than it was under Tomlin's toxic reign.  He had the show looking like it was taped inside a vagina.

As for now....lighting still sucks....and wardrobe???

Listen, there are times I think Kate skint a musty coach in a Salvation Army Thrift Store, and self-sowed that horrid [!@#$%^&*] together by hand.  There is no excuse for that.

And we can all tell Deidre makes her own wardrobe choices...That ridiculous pleather she loves is always on the menu.

This show is like a runaway train lacking any brakes.

That pic of Ari says it all...

Yeah she is actually Kristen, but there is no excuse for that look.  I want to sleep through this,  but how can one erase that image from one's mind. Uggh!  Just horrid!!  Wake me up when it's all over!!!!!!!!!

Wasn't the rumor that, uhhh, someone was sleeping with the actress playing Chelsea and Stephanie's sorority sister Morgan Hollingsworth during the Ed Scott/Sheffer era, and that's why she suddenly became a frontburner player? Asking for a friend.

That went around...yes.  Knowing this business I tend to believe it.

This show became a hot mess during that era BTS.  Lord, I loved message boards back then!!!  I know a couple of birds that would whisper in my ear as well during that time period.  They always delivered the goods.

All the while, the show continued to suck donkey balls.  It was terrible on a daily basis.

It wasn't Langan bad, but it was still consistently awful.

All that turmoil kept me interested in the show.  It almost felt planned.

So you all think it will retire with its 55th anniversary? (Isn't that next year?)

Maybe they will let it go one that long.  This Corday/Sony lawsuit is really a bad sign for the show.  Maybe Sony will still cave a settle, but that's not looking likely right now.

If this is drawn out and goes to trial, Days will not get another full renewal. I am 80% certain that I am right.

A lot of DAYS scenes from the late 90’s and early 00’s don’t hold up or look ridiculous in isolation.

Anyone remember the scene of Lexie crashing Zack’s baptism and knocking over the holy water? Hilarious as hell, wish it was still on YouTube.

Renee Jones is a force of nature.  I wish she would have stuck around.  I think Ron may have given her back her Dimera streak, and  that would be fun to watch.

Yeah, there's something about his mouth and the way he pulls his head back into his neck. It's like we're watching him chug from a water bottle without the bottle. Very strange.

Speaking of random singing: On GL in 2003 during the Weston/Conboy era, Danny and Michelle spontaneously burst into song while having dinner in his restaurant. It was so bizarre (I guess it was reminiscent of Conboy's work on Y&R in the 70's? That's what onliners said). I think the song they sang was a vocal version of their instrumental theme song that was always used for them (I will say I *loved* how GL always had specific background music for particular couples, including the final scene of Josh & Reva in the last episode)

OMG, around 2000-2001 when John would get into his "RoboJohn" modes and start barking orders like a possessed dom top in an underground gay sex dungeon. I particularly remember when he suddenly hated Maggie around this time with Brady at the restaurant and then John and Brady going all apesh&t around town before Brady was accidentally shot.

I love you people! I sweat to god this place is a gift.
