Also, does anyone at FC actually work? All they do is make out and have sex in the office!

And when they do work, we see someone drawing a design -- unlike the way anyone in the industry does it.

It looks like RJ, Zende, Eric, and Ridge do nothing but play coloring book or draw over lines that are already there.

  2. -- Those Mariah and Tessa scenes -- talking about the security at the ranch house and getting a new place -- were EXCRUCIATINGLY boring.

Does anyone think this is a storyline? Does anyone care about where they live? Does anyone believe Aria is being affected by the security guys?

-- I don't know if I want to see Phick again, but seeing Phyllis kiss Nick THISSOON after she stalked Danny is the worst. It's not a way to treat any soap character, let alone a leading lady. Just embarrassing.

-- Nikki's AA meeting (that she attended with Jack) was cringe, from the dialogue to the way it was shot with a wooden flat behind her and a tray of bagels. Also cringe was MTS' acting.

-- Eileen Davidson will always be one of my all-time favorites in daytime, but this story ain't it. Just awful.

-- The Jordan storyline went from good to cartoon. Seth was killed in front of a bar where the street is THISCLOSE to the bar and where full gas containers can be found in the alley. HUH???

I am hate watching this show. While I have many complaints about every other soap, none of them angers me the way Y&R does.

Not her forte. Not even in her comfort zone. That & crooked cop & Clyde sucking face were the negatives

Not her forte, for sure. It was cringe, honestly.

I'm so over Clyde that I have no words. His expiration date was about 4 years ago.

The Wendy and Tripp stuff was decent, but went on too long. Would it still have been decent if they cut it back? I'm not sure, but I know those scenes went on so long I was yawning.

Overall, too much of the episode was slow and lacking in energy.

  4. Putting The Gates between Y&R and Bold is classic tentpole programming. For that reason alone, I think we get Y&R followed by The Gates followed by B&B.

I've mentioned The Talk a couple times, but not because I'm a fan. I watch it only when someone from Y&R appears. It still pulls between 1.2M and 1.5M viewers a day and is cheap to produce, so I wouldn't assume it's a goner.

  5. I love this for another reason. I think THE GATES could make the remaining soaps up their game.

Michele Val Jean can be the Shonda Rhimes / Ava Duvernay of daytime, reinvigorating soaps across the board. It's big news that P&G is again in the game and behind this project. I think that gives it a much better chance of getting to air.

As for GL and ATWT, let's not get out ahead of our skis, OK? Get THE GATES picked up and we can talk after that.

    @ranger1rg

All the actors you mentioned are all about their bodies and not acting skills.

Carter scenes during Sheila death were laughable. Talking about his sources and sh!t was just bad.

Andrew Shue was adorable as Billy. I can't believe what's her name cheated on him. Crazy! I'd have him in bed all day!😂😍

Your point about the actors I mentioned is exactly my point. Shredding Tanner Novlan when the other acotrs in the cast are no better doesn't make sense to me.

And yeah, you're right about Andrew Shue hehe

OMG...I had never thought of that, but you are so right! Finn is to B&B what Billy was to MP.

And really, that's enough. Anyone who watched Melrose Place remembers Billy and Andrew Shue. He was no Emmy winner, but he was solid, and he was perfect for the character.

I hesitate to keep this discussion going, but I think the Tanner Novlan criticism is overboard. Calling him a "basic white boy" and "Wonderbread" is cringe, especially since BOLD is a show FILLED with actors who are no better than TN.

Delon DeMetz (Zende) is no better than Tanner Novlan. Lawrence Saint-Victor (Carter) is no better than Tanner Novlan. Joshua Hoffman (RJ) is no better than Tanner Novlan. I don't think any of them are any more intriguing than Novlan.

I've already stated that I don't think TN was good in the scenes that needed heavy emoting. Also true? I've yet to see the other actors I mentioned be good in any scenes requiring that heavy emoting.

Bottom line is that I think it's more than fine to judge TN's or anyone else's acting in a story/scenes. I don't think it's fair to pull this "basic white boy" bullsh*t.

He could board with Maggie at the Kiriakis mansion.  Everyone else does lol

LOL Yeah, just have all these random people move in with Maggie and have her act like she knows what's going on -- while we all know she's clueless and a lousy judge of character.

I know they're trying to send a message of hope to all people who struggle, but come on. Connor has EVERY single symptom and anxiety associated with OCD. It was a bit of an overkill.

He's supposed to be away at a boarding school who treats kids with anxiety disorders or something. Yet it took months for them to notify the parents? Naw. Did they just make all of this up so this kid actor could get some scenes? (Btw, I love this young actor. Judas "something").

Complete overkill -- which will most likely be over in a week.

I saw posts on Facebook commenting about how glorious this episode was -- how much it taught us, how real it was, how good the acting was. All exaggerations, as far as I'm concerned.

The entire buildup to this was offscreen (like so many Y&R stories). I cannot care about Connor's OCD if I see none of it until he plays with a toy on the psychiatrist's coffee table.

The entire scene with the therapist sounded like Chat GPT wrote it. Full of therapy-speak with simple answers from Connor that led her right to the next question. Judah Mackey was OK as Connor, not great. He was passable.

Once again, Josh Griffith wrote an Emmy bait episode, and I'm not here for it. If you want to know the future for Connor, study the past. In short order, JG will forget about Connor and his OCD will be dropped into a few scripts after that, until we don't hear about it any more.

    • And I need guns / violence to stop on this soap, please!

-- Shouldn't there be 24/7 security and police presence on those Port Charles docks??? There's not only crime there, but people are SHOT there ALL THE TIME. It's absolutely absurd.

-- I've avoided commenting on Adam Harrington as Jagger Cates, even though I really disagreed with all the negative comments here.

Of course he doesn't look like Sabato, so it was a WTH moment when he first appeared. But it was immediately clear that he's a solid actor, and after a couple days I was fine with Harrington in the role. Now I can see his chemistry with Maura West and potential ties to other characters, and I hope PM and EK keep him. Jagger does not have to look like AJS.

I think Jackee is probably just more comfortable doing the comedy and OTT stuff because that's what made her famous.  Or maybe it's a bit like Deidre Hall and she just settled into a campy style for whatever reason.  It could even be the lack of direction, vibe, or fast pace of soaps now.  I'll have to look up some of her work on AW though.

Jackee most definitely settled into a 24/7 campy style. On AW, you can recognize that camp and see Jackee in her, but it's much more nuanced and subtle at times.

I found a compilation clip on You Tube. The quality is lousy, but you can still see Jackee without the camp and exaggerated faces.

I don't think Jackee is a great dramatic actress at all.  I think she's much better at comedic or OTT moments.  I am pretty used to her delivery now, so the Marlena/Paulina scenes were fine to me, but I still don't think this type of material is Jackee's strong suit.

Jackee was actually a really solid dramatic actress when she appeared on Another World in the mid-'80s as Lily Mason.

She was only about 30 then, and I don't know what's happened since. She's good with the comedic stuff, but the serious stuff is not landing at all.

Ok, so I will have to say it. Tanner was insanely bad in the last couple of episodes and anyone could see it.  But Bold has always had male actors that are at the level of porn-acting. Bold thrives with male actors so cringey... when they always had some of the best ladies to compensate.

I just think they could have somehow... changed the dialogue a bit, so that Tanner won't sink in it, like he did. They gave him stuff, that they knew are going to look absurd. So I again blame the writer. Not the actor. They should have knows his limits.

Also I don't see a reason to start comparing actors. If someone says that A can't act... it's kinda petty to start talking about B. This is focus-changing and a technique to make something stop looking so bad. But in 2024, It makes even more apparent that A can't act and that you are defending them. There is no reason to defend. Nobody is attacking him. We all like him and his body and face. And we all know Tanner is here because he is a great looking man and has charisma. But I completely understand @Liberty City's opinion and the others too. I myself was scared to say it, since here we have something like a cult following and I don't want to trigger people, who are easily triggered. Never my intention.

But IF YOU WANT TO compare - KKL has never been Susan Flannery, but she can act circles around Tanner Novlan. That little tear from the left eye has legends written about it. She has survived for nearly 40 years in the business *most seasons acting in more than 200 episodes a year - lead storylines*and has had moments where she has ACTED near the level of the greats. She is not the most consistent one, but she rarely gives the level of cringe Tanner gives... or Ronn gave.

Tanner could have played a perfect Thomas Forrester, if Ronn Moss was still around, they would have looked so related.

So there's no reason to compare, but let's compare??? OK then.

I think the problem is saying Tanner (or any actor) can't act based on particular scenes. I agree that TN wasn't good with the heavy emoting. The faceplay didn't work at all. Still, I think he's a good actor, and he's proven that over the years.

I also disagree that there's no acting in commercials.

Look, I love KKL, but if I isolate her scenes with Thorsten Kaye, I can make a case for calling her a bad actor. I can call out the lack of chemistry and not blame it all on her. I can call out her not selling the romance and for not making a bland script work. I can call out her sing-song voice and her vocal fry. I don't do any of that because KKL is more than her scenes with TK.
