IRL some people choose to have gravesites even without a body. It gives them a place to go to, to "visit", to put flowers. I'm sure tons of people do not because of the expense.

But what's the point of digging up soil?  Why not just put a tombstone or some other marker?

One thing surprising about Thursday's episode is the chemistry between the Drew and Willow actors.  I'm not a fan of either character, but if they're going to stay on the canvas, they may as well have a soapy affair/entanglement.

  2. So far, the first season of Feud remains superior.  This second season cast is amazing, but the writing isn't engaging at all.  Hopefully it gets better through the series...

I'd rather see Calista Flockhart in an Ally McBeal sequel series.  The Frasier sequel has been fantastic, so there's definitely hope for iconic characters to have second acts 20 years later.

  3. All the dialog-heavy scripts on GH every episode are terrible, especially since the scripts are completely without any comedy.  I'm so sick of seeing 2 characters in a stationary scene constantly doing repetitive exposition.  What's the point of a visual medium when it's just audio?  You might as well do a podcast at that point!

I'm excited that Mulcahey is back because he did excellent work on GH in the 1990s and on Santa Barbara (which even Nancy Lee Grahn still raves about).  He should have a fresh canvas of characters, so I hope Flynn, Valentine, Drew, Nina, Willow, Ava, Portia, Diane, Marshall and Stella all get axed soon.

  4. To be fair, Antonio Sabbato Jr was a big part of the reason (via the Karen-Jason-Brenda teen quad plus AJ) GH had a ratings resurgence during the Wendy Riche tenure starting in 1992-1993.  GH was #1 (or close to it) in the demo ratings that ABC cared about back then.  GH and ABC had ASJ and Vanessa Marcil do promotion all the time all over the place (talk shows, radio, magazines, etc.) in the early/mid-1990s.

Yeah, he's definitely exercising while recording that vlog post.  It's nice to see an actor actually express interest and gratitude for a character he helped create 30+ years ago.  I still think Jagger is the second best thing he ever did (the best thing was playing Janet Jackson's love interest in "Love Will Never Do (Without You)").

I wonder how Frank Valentini, Varni/ABC will react if this gains any traction.  There were a lot of veteran actresses back in the pre-social media days that got recast unjustly and were never able to publicly, directly address the executive producers that were responsible for those decisions in real time.

  5. What is happening at GH recently?  There's a record number of these miscast recasts.  I liked the actor in the first part of the episode, figured he was playing some aged character from 1980s GH when he bumped into Carly.  I even liked his interaction with Leo.  But then Anna ruined the character for me when she said "Jagger?"  This actor is too old and blond looking to be playing Jagger.  He'd be a decent recast for an aged Jax, but not Jagger.

This week has been terrible.  Having Spencer literally choke Esme like that was disgusting and I'm glad we're going to be getting a break from that character (who was wonderfully played as a child by that actor Laura was looking at in the picture frame today).  Laura & Kevin grieving was bittersweet.  I really hope Esme returns soon.  Nice to see Nicolas and Ace at the end of today's episode!

  6. Anyone know the song playing in the background behind Spencer, Trina and Joss at around 9:55 into today's episode (Wednesday, January 24) before they cut to Laura and Heather?  Seems like a fun little song.

I'm disappointed Esme knocked out Uncle Kevin like that after that nice, disarming therapy session.  Guess they're really going to take her to crazy town quickly.  Ugh.  I did enjoy the Laura-Heather and Esme-Kevin scenes greatly.  Cody-Felicia-Spinelli-Maxie's kid were nice, too.  I liked yesterday's scenes with Tracy, Scott and Lucy (plus, that hot MetroCourt bartender Jessie).  Sweet that they're reuniting Scott & Lucy after all these decades.

  7. Friday's show was such a terrific watch with Laura, Spencer, Cyrus, Esme and Ava.  That last scene between Esme and Ava in particular was a heart-wrenching cliffhanger.

They need to keep Nina like she was in today's episode, a little unhinged, a lot angry and very vindictive.  I'm so sick of her being a whiny doormat and punching bag for all the insufferable and loathsome characters that attack her constantly.

Carly taking over as editor of a fashion magazine is so ridiculous.  Every job that character has had (except as a nursing student when she came on the show) has been completely unbelievable.  Having her run her mother's diner was the perfect fit.  She should have stayed at Kelly's/Bobbie's.

AP and NAC have amazing chemistry.

Yes, they certainly do.  Those 2 actors are the best casting of "younger" adult characters on this show since the 1990s.  Esme's portrayer gives such a layered, complex performance every single time.  The character being the daughter of 2 classic GH villains (also being related to and guided by Kevin and Laura, the polar opposites of her biological parents, is a nice bit of symmetry).  That's the kind of legacy continuation we need!  I hope that push-and-pull tension stays balanced so they don't burn her up quickly into a cartoon villain.  Esme easily deserves to be the younger female lead for the show.  She's much more interesting than Joss or Trina.

I don't know why this show wastes time on Flynn's dumb malpractice story or Willow's idiotic, irrational hatred for Nina.

  9. The Laura-Nicolas-Spencer-Ace-Esme saga is the best thing on the show right now.  I hope it's not going to be over soon.

The Bobbie tribute was nice, especially the scenes involving Laura-Lucy-Scott-Kevin.  What a powerful medium soap storytelling can be when you have character growth, introspection and insight about relationships that are literally 30-40 years long.

  10. Yeah, they need bring Brenda (and Julia, maybe, too) with kids in tow.  Right now is the perfect time to do it, too, with the Deception fight over that cosmetics company.  Or have Barrett Industries swoop in and buy the MetroCourt from Nina, too, to spite Carly. 😄  And, better yet, have Brenda come back to the show (SURPRISE!) mysteriously already married to Nicolas Cassadine.  All the drama-scandal that would ensue would be so delicious seeing Brenda playing opposite Tracy, Lois, Lucy, Sonny, Laura, etc.

There's so many fun things they could do with Brenda on the canvas in 2024.

  11. Friday's highlight was the Esme & Heather scenes.  Touching mother-daughter reunion in prison!  I was surprised by the good advice Heather gave, almost like the mom from The Wonder Years would give. 🤭  Esme being the troubled, lead female of that generation is what GH deserves.  I hope they don't go over-the-top and prematurely burn off the character when she's got so much potential for so many years of mayhem and drama.

Carly's new year's eve dress to the club was frumpy (or just mundane, if I'm being charitable).

  12. Good for Nathan Varni.  I agree 100% with J Bernard Jones in this X thread.  I hope GH succeeds and leads to revival of AMC and OLTL in some form in the future.

What I'd like GH to do is write more comedy into scenes.  All the regurgitated 2-actor dialog scenes are absolutely bland.  Bring on Foxy Roxy or Opal Gardner!  All of the veteran actors (playing Lois, Tracy, Scott, Lucy, Felicia, Laura, etc.) have comedic chops, too.

  13. Why does this show keep propping up a z-list ESPN talking head as a "star"?  Do sports fans even think of him as a star?  No sports fans are watching General Hospital and soap fans are not watching sports, anyways.  The show is overflowing with 60 years of superstars in film, television, stage and music that they could be highlighting on this special.  So it's ridiculous they keep trotting out and propping up Brick or whatever-his-name-is like that.

  14. Really loving the last few episodes of GH.  The Lucy-Scotty-Tracy-Brooklynn story sounds like it'll be classic scheming, soapy fun.  The Cody-Mac-Felicia tale should be sweet.  The Esme-Spencer-Nikolas-Laura story should be excellent as the old and new Esme merge.  Even the Cyrus-Nina-Sonny-Carly stuff is shaping up to be a nice throwback to villainy.  I hope that hot WSB director character comes back in a new, permanent role.

I don't think Maxie's going anywhere.  I've accepted Kristen Storms staying in the role and she's got the only kids on the show that are entertaining and watchable (besides Elizabeth's 3 sons, but they're growing up).

  15. I really like this hot actor they cast as the new chief of WSB + Pikeman.  I hope he sticks around and doesn't end up being just a short-term villain.  He'd be great opposite Anna, Felicia, Lucy or Laura.  Or better even Jordan, if they ever give her a romance.

So cute how Lucy & Scott were reminiscing about their history and reminding us that Serena's out there somewhere (though they seem to always forget about Christina, LOL).  Same for Lois reminiscing about Christmas at the Quartermaines with Lila and Reginald.

Can someone please re-train the Violet actress to stop doing line deliveries like she does?  She is no Shirley Temple.

I can't stand Diane, either, but I'd rather her stay on the canvas and be humiliated constantly.  It's always hilarious when someone intentionally or unintentionally knocks her down a peg like Robert.

Edited.  Just realized I mixed up Charlotte with Violet.  They're both terrible.

  16. OMG!  Rena Sofer's Lois being back is the BEST casting decision the show has made in AGES.  So glad she's back.  The Tracy vs Lois scenes are spectacular already, the fun friendship of Lois & Lisa LoCicero's Olivia (a sweet enough substitute for Brenda for the time being) and the mother-daughter dynamic of Lois & Brooklynn are going to be so great!  So cool of them to tap into the Lois & Ned supercoupledom of the '90s.

Loved the Laura/Kevin/Esme/Ace/Spencer scenes too.  I'm really digging these 2 family units and their dynamics.  GH really feels like GH again with Laura's family and Tracy's family at the forefront of an episode. 🥰

I'm looking forward to Felicia's GH murder mystery happening soon.  I don't need Felicia to prop up Aunt Stella any more, let Stella be the second victim of Nurse Ratchet, please!

I don't know what was going on with Scott & Lucy in the prior episode.  Why did Lucy change her clothes in the middle of the episode to give that confusing speech with no clarity on what's going to do?  She went back to looking like the mousey librarian disguise she used to sport.  LOL.  And why are Maxie & Lucy acting like they built Deception from scratch?  Didn't that company start with Julia Barrett, Dominique, Scott and Lucy?  I don't know what Scott was doing in the episode, but he's always a delight.

  17. Yeah, they need to put up all these episodes on Youtube or Facebook Watch.  If the entire music industry can put up all the music videos and song recordings on Youtube and be able to monetize it, there's no reason whoever owns the soap episodes couldn't (and it takes care of the music rights because Youtube already has arrangements for that).  The episodes are now collecting dust, they could be collecting a few thousand or million dollars, building exposure/interest from a global audience on a huge platform like Youtube.

    Which is worse:

Continuing on with a less than satisfactory NuMolly?

    or

    Having Haley Pullos back?

I am also trying to find out if it's true that they asked Lucci & she said no & KDP was second choice to Lucci. If so, KDP's pop cultural value has just soared! Frankly a real feather in her cap. I love it!

Obviously if Haley Pullos is in prison, then she can't be on the show, but if she's available and is likely to avoid a jail sentence, then let the girl work!  Having her be productive, busy and working as an actor helps her pay restitution to her victim(s), too, and keeps her out of trouble.

What are you talking about with KDP?  Didn't Blair Cramer already show up in Port Charles?  I'd rather Dorian Cramer or her daughter Cassie make an appearance instead of Blair.  Major bummer if Susan Lucci declined to make a surprise cameo on GH, especially after Walt Wiley did so well playing opposite Lucy & Felicia.  If they're trying to develop that Pine Valley primetime spin off, it helps to keep these AMC characters alive on GH.  If La Lucci won't appear, then maybe they can pivot to having Opal Gardner being Tracy's partner-in-crime. 🤭

Portia tearing into Anna today is another example of why Portia is the second most annoying female character on this show (after that arrogant Diane dingbat).  I don't understand how/why the writers can stomach writing for these sanctimonious, whiny, unlikable characters.  Curtis needs to finally dump this loser.
