  1. What happened to Y&R???? I mean not that it was great before the shut down took them out of production, but you would think that when they did get to resume, they would have improved. Instead, it seems like its worse. It's even MORE boring! Not only that, but did they get a new hair stylist? Almost everyone has horrible hair. Nicki and Ashley both look like they are wearing wigs (maybe they are) and Victoria's hair right now looks like it hasnt been brushed in days. and the wardrobe is terrible, as well. Abby's garish bright mint green suit, Sharon's ugly bright blue drappy tank thing (would you really want to wear that style of shirt a few days after breast surgery?) and they put Chelsea in a vomit pink puffy THING that is the absolute worst color for her! (they usually put her in dark tones like reds and browns which looks great on her not to mention they arent even trying anymore with her hair either) so not only are the stories not keeping my attention, but the esthetics leave a lot to be desired.

And dont even get me started on cutting out completely on kissing/love making scenes for stupid social distancing. THIS IS A SOAP!!!!! The soap I write is a million times better than this garbage

I’m total opposite. Billy/Lily reminds me of Lane. Is DG coming back for another round of Billy vs Cane? He’s been way too chummy with the cast on social media lately.

I didnt watch the show during Cane and Lily so I dont know about that. I just feel like Billy and Lily actually have chemistry compared to most couples on the show right now who dont have much chemistry

Haha. I feel the same way. I may watch since summer has been a complete bore without travel plans and covid restrictions. Any other time I would not.

So are they putting Lily and Billy together?I wish she would just go away. Never felt CK was a great actress who was needed on this show, but I feel the same about at least 1/2 of the cast.

you didnt see the Lily and Billy pairing coming? I saw that as soon as they started working together. I think they have chemistry so I'm looking forward to seeing it. I'm glad they didn't go far with him and Amanda. Yuck

  4. today's episode........Shemar was at his yummiest! Good lord! And also during this period Neil was better looking. I think he looks better with a goat tee then a clean shaven face.

Actually, I think you're remembering the infamous "Fudge Brownie" scene, in which a shirtless Malcolm wearing leather pants posed for a test shoot while Jill and another executive licked their lips and the soundtrack had a woman moaning and whispering "I want my fudge brownie". And he was hawt.

It's sad that that whole Men's Line modeling mini-arc didn't lead to that, since the chemistry between Walton and Moore was sizzling and their characters had such a great dynamic. All of Genoa City would've heard Jill if she'd gone to bed with Malcolm. But it never would've happened. Those scenes would have to be done right and the show wouldn't go there. They did all they could to keep Malcolm away from the white women for as long as possible. I mean, Neil and Victoria touched hands and received death threats. If they had portrayed the Jill/Malcolm passion like we know it would be, someone might've set the studio on fire! Even 2 or 3 years later, things were better and Phyllis hooked up with Malcolm. Still, a missed opportunity.

I LOVED the brief romantic relationship between Neil and Victoria and I remember being PISSED that it didn't go anywhere grrrrrrr. The only person I liked Heather Thom with.

Speaking of Victoria......loved seeing a classic episode with Amelia's refreshing face and portrayl rather than Heather's sour puss face

  5. Today's episode took me right back to that day in 1994 when my eyes saw the most beautiful man in the world and I never looked away..........yum yum yum. Shemar is still beautiful even at like 50 something years old.

She was a breath of fresh air.

It's hard to believe Adam is her child. Chip on his shoulder? Sure. But, by all accounts, he had a good childhood with Hope and a father figure in Cliff.

I know. I think that every time Adam is on the screen. How is he Hope's son?

I thought Dru was adorable. Her exchange with John put a smile on my face.

It's so confusing watching Cassandra being in the midst of a murder mystery a minute and then being a businesswoman the next minute. It was equally confusing seeing Nicholas married with children one day and back as a kid the next day. Just release the whole classics already! :P

I didn't know Neil started at Jabot. It's really confusing because in the 1999 episodes posted upthread he was saying to Victor: "You took me under your wing when I was fresh out of college". BTW watching these classics reminded me how hard it was for me initially to understand if Jabot and Newman were in the same building.

I  know there were a lot of back and forth of all of them hopping from working for Jabot to Newman and back and forth. It might as well been all one company! lol

I know it’s a somewhat common trope, but almost every show with a black family did the goody-two-shoes striver with the “hood” sibling they were responsible for keeping in line. Almost always a pair, as if writers could only see us in that binary. Some were better written than others and evolved past that initial conceit. Incredibly rare to have a black family of 3-4 or more siblings.

    Y&R: Olivia/Dru, Neil/Malcolm

    OLTL: Hank/RJ

    GL: Gilly/David

    ATWT: Ben/Isaac

I feel like I’m forgetting someone.

Yup, so true! In the soap I write my largest family is a black family and they are wealthy, as well. I also have several other black characters outside that family and they are all successful people in a variety of careers.

  8. I wasn't watching Y&R in 2012 so its nice to see a "classic" I have never seen before. However, seeing Victor and Sharon together makes me vomit. Could there have ever been a more pairing that should have never been? Makes me cringe even more than Victor and Ashley

The Sharon/Nikki fight was funny but it was very fake looking. They could have done a better job to make it look real. Nikki was hardly fighting back and Sharon's slaps you could tell she wasn't actually hitting Nikki

  9. Its so funny how when I watch these old eps I remember watching them before and it felt like it was just yesterday when it aired the first time but it was over 20 years ago! I actually like that short hair cut that Nikki had in this ep. Even though I love her long hair, this hair cut also works for her

Alex Donnelly sort of looks like she could be Michael Mealor’s mother, with their endearing mouths. Shame that Y&R destroyed Diane so shortsightedly. Her absence is deeply felt.

I don't miss her at all. Never liked her

I did enjoy for a hot minute when Victoria claimed she was done with men after Travis (?) left her. But then only a few months later she was with JT.

Well this is a soap! No character can stay single or celibate for long! Even one month's time without being with anyone else is really long in soap world! lol

Nikki, Ashley (that wig...) and Victoria's highlighter yellow hair in this 2002 episode is bothering me so much.

I hate what they did to Olivia in this story. Your best friend is battling cancer so you sleep with her husband. That's not even in her character. Her wig in this episode is also tragic.

Cassie was always such an oddly written child. How old is she here? 10? What 10 year old says something like "I thought you had something on your mind, mom." Like what? Camryn Grimes is a cutie though. Killing Cassie to keep Nick and Sharon "young" was a huge mistake, it's just allowed the characters to continue acting like teenagers for 15 years.

What was Phyllis pissy about at the wedding? I'm guessing her scenes with Jack were excised.

I've always thought inter-cutting Victor and Nikki's vows with Ashley admitting Victor is Abby's father was masterful. The story is icky and offensive but they rung every drop of drama possible out of it. That's what I miss most about Y&R, they would hit every beat no matter how long it took.

I missed the second half of the episode as I do everyday because of the stupid mayor of Philly wait......Olivia was sleeping with Brad? Or Ashley was sleeping with Malcolm? I did watch the show during this era but I dont remember that story.

JW won Lead Actress in 1997; I think she submitted episodes where Jill was a suspect in Victor's shooting. The Chancellor estate party was September 1998. Jeanne Cooper got a Lead Actress nomination in 1999 for the Chancellor estate battle story.

Victor and Nikki had four weddings that I remember: Colonnade Room 1984, Genoa City Memorial Hospital 1998, Colonnade Room 2002, Newman Ranch 2013.

Wow that's it? That's actually pretty amazing that it was only 4 times. I really thought it was more than 5 lol. Although they were together more times than that just didnt get married to each other every time
