ALL: Lack of Body Diversity on Soaps
I think it has always been a shame that there is such a lack of body diversity on soaps, especially when it comes to plus-sized women since the target audience is women and most of them are probably not sizes 0-4. The only couples where the woman was plus-sized I can think of on soaps (at least ones actually written for) are Sofia and Neil, Craig and Nancy (and in the end they had him be closeted the entire time), Michael and Marcie, Coop and Ashlee (my personal favorite), and kind of Destiny and Matthew (of course she was recast with a super skinny, lighter skinned actress on the reboot).

What do you think was the last good year of each soap?
So you stopped enjoying soaps by the early 80s? I think most people consider the early to mid 90s to be the best of GH.

This can include canceled soaps and the 4 still on.

Did it ever annoy you that actors who were leads would put themselves in supporting
Yes, she always submitted in supporting. BW also submitted in supporting on OLTL even though Jessica was a lead because that was ES’ category.

Like Alicia Minshew and Rebecca Budig putting themselves in supporting despite being leads the last 5-6 years of All My Children.

I’ll have to recount. Maybe I switched them accidently. It’s mostly because of Erika Slezak’s 6 wins. I think it’s interesting that GH leads every category except that one where they’re near the bottom.

I also grouped the younger performer wins in with actress or actor.

ALL: Legacy children who were undervalued or underdeveloped
Watching early 2000s All My Children, I think Jamie got the short end of the stick in favor of JR, and Jamie was just as much of a legacy character as him.

ALL: Always surprised by the casual violence of men toward women in older episodes
I feel that way watching 90s Todd knowing they’re going to turn him into a leading man after he was the ring leader of Marty’s gang rape, was revealed to have raped a woman prior to Marty, and would terrorize and try to rape multiple women after Marty. It was too much.

ALL: Always surprised by the casual violence of men toward women in older episodes
Watching episodes of soaps from the 80s and 90s, I’m struck by how common it was to have male characters slap female characters, and these usually weren’t characters who were supposed to be villains. Like Roger on GL slapped Alex back after she slapped him, but he was a rapist so that’s not shocking, but that same show had Billy Lewis returning Reva’s slap and slapping his daughter. A character like Lucas on Days was I think supposed to be more rootable and he had to be held back by Austin from hitting Sami after she slapped him and straight up slapped his mother without any provocation from her. I was watching a 90s episode of OLTL and Jason, who seemed like a good guy, slapped Dorian back after she slapped him. I guess this did still occur occasionally in the 2000s like when Alan slapped Sonny’s girlfriend Reese, but it seemed really prominent before then.
