I am watching the soap opera The Doctors right now... it's 1968 and there have been 3 slaps in 3 months so far. It's very slappy 60s... kinda shocked me.

I’m surprised because I would think slaps didn’t really become a thing until the 1970s.

  2. I think it has always been a shame that there is such a lack of body diversity on soaps, especially when it comes to plus-sized women since the target audience is women and most of them are probably not sizes 0-4. The only couples where the woman was plus-sized I can think of on soaps (at least ones actually written for) are Sofia and Neil, Craig and Nancy (and in the end they had him be closeted the entire time), Michael and Marcie, Coop and Ashlee (my personal favorite), and kind of Destiny and Matthew (of course she was recast with a super skinny, lighter skinned actress on the reboot).

  3. A character I always wondered why they didn't do more with was Trey Kenyon. They did a gross retcon to give Erica a son and Kendall a brother when she already had one with the drama of it being from her rapist father. He was also David's brother.

To me, Liza was always much more like her father, Larry Colby.  Buttoned up, business first, a bit repressed, and snotty.  Jamie Luner's character was as if Marion had a long-lost daughter who was naughtier and more sexually aggressive.

She wasn’t sexually repressed when she was sleeping with Ryan while married to Adam.

…and we actually had a talented and charismatic actor with Micah Alberti. He was very “Tad Junior” in his swagger. The actor was polished, but it took so long to figure out what to do with Jamie that Micah was already Primetime bound by the time they figured it out.

I love that Justin Bruening and Alexa Havins met on set, but in terms of acting chops the next Robert Redford he was not…

With Bianca Montgomery front and center for so many years on AMC, you have to wonder why the writers never gave her half-siblings Molly and Mathew a meaningful storyline. Both had so many roots on campus. They were clean slates that the writers could have taken anywhere. And because their parents were not related to everyone, they were ripe for romantic pairings across the canvas.

Molly’s cancer and Matt’s conception storyline was such a big storyline on the show. It would have been nice to see it come full circle by seeing what happens in a sibling relationship like that.

    Was Sean Matthew?

    In my opinion:

    Another World - 1979

Days of Our Lives - 1983

    All My Children - 1983

    General Hospital - 1980

Search for Tomorrow - 1980 (or whenever the Corringtons left as head writers)

I don't have strong opinions about the others

So you stopped enjoying soaps by the early 80s? I think most people consider the early to mid 90s to be the best of GH.

I counted 9: Beth Maitland (1985), Jess Walton (1991), Michelle Stafford (1997), Sharon Case (1999), Amelia Heinle (2014, 2015), Jessica Collins (2016), Camryn Grimes (2018), Marla Adams (2021).

I’ll have to recount. Maybe I switched them accidently.

Most surprising, I think, is OLTL having the most wins in the Lead Actress category.

It’s mostly because of Erika Slezak’s 6 wins. I think it’s interesting that GH leads every category except that one where they’re near the bottom.

I counted the first few Emmys where there was only one category for men and women each as leads. I also grouped the younger performer wins in with actress or actor.
