I didn't know that she broke her contract to get out of the show. It seems like most of the Passions cast became close and still are to this day (and always had a relatively small cast for an hour-long show). Maybe it was the youngest cast members, the ones who still needed guardians with them, that had it really bad. MEW, Taylor Anne Mountz and Lena Cardwell were all off the show after a year. Have any of them ever really elaborated on their experiences?

Lena Cardwell was actually on the show for a good chunk of the early years, 1999-2001, Chrystee Pharris didn’t take over the role until the hell in the closet storyline.

@AbcNbc247 yes, Taylor Anne Mountz was dating Jesse Metcalfe. She left to continue college.

Both Lena and Taylor were at the Passions Reunion a couple years back and had nothing but good things to say. IMO if they didn’t like the experience I would think they’d probably skip the reunion like MEW.

Another interesting thing I noticed was in the comment section of the YouTube video with MEW’s interview, someone claiming to have worked on Passions defended the show and said the show was very fast paced and for a 14 year old like Mary who was just starting off on a soap, the experience was probably much different compared to anything she had done up to that point which is reasonable.

The fact the interview title calls the set “toxic” when she herself doesn’t rubs me the wrong way. “My mom had to stay in the dressing room, it wasn't a friendly atmosphere and the show was crappy” does not necessarily equal toxic, but perhaps that was her personal experience.

The cast often times cite the fact that they all started together and were the “little soap that could” and underdogs, they were extremely close, had parties together and pranked each other on set... sounds completely different from this toxic experience Mary Elizabeth Winstead had.

Jessica was always kind of a non character anyways, so maybe the unpleasantness stems from not having much to do compared to her older co stars?

Jessica didn’t spice up until Danica Stewart got in the role and she was being pimped out by Spike and killing the John Does lol

I’m glad they gave her a happy ending with Reese haha

  2. Have to say, this is the first year in a long time where I'm rooting for more people than I hate haha! And maybe I'm reaching, but they have a new casting director this season and I must say she did a great job.

Well, AMC is doing it. If it's a success...who knows? 😊

You're right, and with Reilly passed away it would mean new writers but that reminds me of something I always think about, JER passed away just a few short months after Passions was canceled. Imagine Directv renewed the show for another year... I wonder if MarDar would have stepped in as headwriters since they worked under Jim for years, or if they would've brought someone in.

I could see Ron Carlivati being a good writer for PSNS, especially since during that time he was on OLTL writing stories like the tale of two Todds, Jess/Tess/Bess/Wes and the Ford brothers were half naked all the time. And hasn't it come out since that he pitched a vampire version of OLTL as a new soap... yea he would've had a field day at Passions lol.

Haha... I started tuning in the summer after you. The first episode I saw was when Luis and Sheridan's boat exploded. And I really enjoyed the show back then. But those later years, even though there were still things that I l liked, was were just so all over the place.

The constant non-exits of characters, Chad suddenly gay/bi, Sheridan as a villain (which I always felt would've worked had they not made her a Beth-like villain) and then DirecTV. Lol it's kind of sad.

Passions is the one soap I think would work well in primetime and the cast wants to do it but I doubt it would ever happen.

Wasn't there also a Martin impersonator at some point? I think he fell through a roof. This was very early on - maybe even the first year.

Yes that was the first year in 1999, leading up to New Year's Eve.

I must say, Passions was the first soap I got hooked on as a teen in the summer of 2000 when the prom boat sank. I remember being a kid bored and I come from a family of CBS soap watchers, so while they watched (in my mind at the time- boring Y&R and B&B) my grandmother told me to turn to NBC where all of a sudden I'm introduced to Evil Charity in her prom dress shooting lightening out of her finger tips and the high school students on a prom boat are in chaos as they struggle to stay afloat, and I thought to myself, this is cool haha. Throw in Timmy in his tux running on the pier and Tabitha with her tiara and I was hooked right away.

Now that I'm older and rewatched the series in its entirety I appreciate what it tried to do and was. 1999 in my opinion was a slow start to introduce everyone but by 2000-2003 it was on fire. The double wedding with Ivy crashing through the church and faceless Alistair getting spineless Julian to poison Sheridan's wedding ring so she'd die at the altar once slipped on her finger (haha!), Bermuda, Warlock Island, Julian caught between Ivy, Rebecca and Theresa fighting to be the real Mrs. Julian Crane, Zombie Charity, the mysterious shed and are Whitney and Chad brother and sister? I mean Reilly literally had me hooked as a kid and the show knew who there audience was- silly and over the top unrealistic stories, sure, but highly entertaining. I think it lost its magic so to speak with Josh Ryan Evans passing away as Timmy and the departure of Jesse Metcalfe and Molly Stanton as Miguel and Charity kind of put an end to a lot of the things that made Passions work so well.

Sure after that we got nutty Beth, Charlie and the whole Sheridan in the pit story and other good moments peppered in over the years that followed, but over time the tone switched somehow and was never the same. They tried to recover the magic with Endora being born but it couldn't save it. And don't get me started on DirecTV, I was soooo disappointed with those episodes to the point where my Passions loving heart was ok with it being cancelled the second time if it meant it didn't get any worse.

No matter how bad it got Passions is still what got me into soaps and it wasn't all bad, especially 2000-2003ish they were on a roll and I still watch the episodes on YouTube, I'm happy that the loyal fans keep it alive after all these years and that its longevity continues and reunions because that doesn't always happen with cancelled soaps.

  6. I binge-watched all of last weeks episodes and this weeks so far, and based on the comments here I thought I was in for a train wreck, and although its definitely chaotic, no matter how chaotic it got I enjoyed every second of it.

I've been vocal that I hate the whole Kristen/Susan storyline and while I still think both characters need to retire for a while, the storyline is better now that Sami/Lucas/Kate/Gabi/Jake are intertwined into the mix.

I'm enjoying the addition of Chanel into the younger set, it just bugs me to no end when posters on Twitter go "if she's a lesbian then why was she into Theo/Xander/Eli etc" umm... I think the show did a good job of explaining the whole no labels thing and being attracted to the person, but I guess some people can't wrap their heads around the concept. As someone thats the same way its great to see that displayed on DAYS, some people call it bi, pansexual or no labels but regardless what you call it it's good to have it represented as something that exists. Was the kiss between her and Allie for shock? Maybe, because this is Ron we're talking about lol, but I do believe he's at the same time setting  up something bigger here, but maybe I'm giving him too much credit.

I was a Passions fan so I've always had a soft spot for Galen Gering, but I think he's more likable since he returned this time around. I don't mind Rafe/Ava/Nicole, maybe I just didn't like Rafe with Hope.

Speaking of Nicole, sure she hasn't had scenes with Xander in forever but I like it when soaps pair characters together that aren't usually in scenes together. It's realistic that a character could cross paths with someone like that, but I can also see how some fans can see it as purely plot driven to move the plot forward.

DAYS in my option is on fire. Could the pacing be better? Sure, I completely forgot about the whole who shot Charlie lol, but compared to the other soaps right now I think they were deserving of that 2 year pickup.

The lack of Ben has been great.

  7. @Mr. Vixen that sounds like a great concept and congratulations on your second book!

There was talk of a Passions spinoff a while back but I doubt it will ever become anything, though I do feel like the soapy drama and supernatural combination would work well on The CW if it focused on the younger characters.

I know this probably wouldn't be popular for those that would want the storylines to continue present day, but if it were up to me I would think Passions would work well as an anthology series like American Horror Story. Each season a new story from start to finish but the same Passions cast with Juliet Mills as sort of the Jessica Lange type.

I'm over Kristen and Susan. The whole thing is just tedious and uninteresting at this point. There had to have been another, better way to provide conflict for Brady and Kristen, and possibly reunite Brady and Chloe.

Agreed, not a fan of this storyline. As much as I like Stacy Haiduk I feel like they’ve written Kristen into a corner and it may be time to retire her (at least for a while.)

On Twitter Cin fans are coming for Theodosia (I mean Theo.) I may be in the minority but I actually like Cameron Johnson as Theo alot, he’s cute and a solid actor. If nothing more, at least I’m happy a revived friendship has come out of this with Theo and Ciara. Cameron Johnson also seems to have good chemistry with the cast as well.

We need more of The Who shot Charlie, more Chanel/Paulina and seeing where that goes and less everything else.

  9. I don't think I've ever laughed as much during an episode of DAYS like I did today. Jackee Harry definitely sparked some energy into the show, and the scenes at Julie's Place were perfect, from calling Julie an old white lady, to calling Julie out on trying to touch Valerie's hair lol!

I find Cameron Johnson so cute and likable as Theo. I know there's many that would rather have Kyler back but Im ok with him in the role and think the character is needed on the canvas more than just a drop in. CLEO fans online are hoping for a reunion since Theo "broke up with his girlfriend," but with this version of Theo I'd rather see him with a man haha.

In contrast, Claire continues to annoy me. No offense to Isabel Durant but I'd welcome ORK back in a heartbeat. I just haven't warmed up to her, and it doesn't help she's wrapped up in this Ben nonsense, I tuned most of that out today, but that aside today was a good episode... funny and good display of diversity rarely seen.

  10. I stumbled across this episode today and just laughed my ass off. The show was so absurd but highly entertaining. Just imagine this airing today and I swear people would eat this up more than what the soaps are offering today.

Tamara Braun, Cady McClain and Emily O Brien are holding things down alongside Marci Miller and Lauren Koslow

Yes!!! Loving Tamara back on DAYS, she does great in roles like this, and can we keep Cady?

If it weren’t for the rape storyline I would’ve thought Joey, Tripp and Charlie were going to be RC’s new Ford brothers lol

I love JJ back and how he and Abby went to Jack at the end of the episode. I hope he’s here for a long time.

Likewise, I enjoyed that moment. I hope he sticks around too.

It sucks nuTheo couldn’t stay longer as well since they supposedly came together right? I’m really confused why they recast and brought the character back just for 2 seconds. Too bad I can’t find the actor anywhere on social media, he was pretty cute.

New Theo's already left Salem. I liked New Theo too. Why bother bringing him back. For such a short nothing visit. Theo's autism seemed forgotten. CJ totally reminds me of Gabriel Devane.

Sorry to hear this, I actually really like nuTheo and hoped he’d be around longer. He looks like he could be related to Lena Cardwell (original Simone, PSNS)... I know, completely random haha.

I actually like this whole Jack/Kate storyline but some of those scenes with Matt Ashford 😬

  14. @Errol @Toups Sad news to share (if it hasn’t been already)... Passions last senior producer has passed away. He died on Tuesday and was 56. He was a senior producer the entire run of Passions and Lisa de Cazotte’s right hand man under the title of Supervising Producer.

He was apart of the recent Passions reunion that was done via zoom, and his death of course follows both Lisa (EP) and James E. Reilly (Creator/Head Writer/ Consulting Producer.)

Sad news for the Passions family.

He was also involved with several other soaps, his obituary can be viewed here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/brooklyn-ny/richard-schilling-9317720

  15. I’m enjoying the season so far, I’m rooting for Janelle, Kaysar, Da’Vonne, Bayleigh, and David.

BOTH Nicole’s are annoying, hope they’re evicted soon... and Kevin all sad and moping around had me rolling my eyes but at least he gave an effort to fight and stay, Keesha gave no effort to stay, almost like she wanted to go.

  16. I love the new look for the stage, can’t wait for the premiere tonight. The cast of all star players have been sequestered in the LA area for the last 2 weeks and isolated due to COVID, it’s being reported that some contestants initially planned to be on this season will not because they tested positive.

Will you guys be tuning in tonight?
