I'm watching some episodes and the Amanda/Devon/Nate/Elena stuff is pretty good. I do like the Phyllis/Amanda scenes, but MS is stuck in her old tricks again. Christel Khalil looks great and lively without the boring Cane. I enjoyed her scenes with Victor.

There is a media company called Chancellor Communications (ChanceComm) that is owned by Jill, and run by Billy and Lily.
Billy ran an article (exposé) about Adam's many sins through the years. One of the things in the article was what Adam did to Ashley by gaslighting her and switching Faith.
Ashley's reaction - transcript from Oct 2:
Ashley: Jack, everything Billy published is the truth. And it's a little distressing being reminded of that difficult time, but... it's not gonna break me.
Jack: Wait. I would think you'd be a lot more upset about this.
Ashley: I don't know what happened in Kansas, and I don't know what happened in Vegas, but I do know that during that time in Genoa City, Adam is 1,000% responsible for every single last thing that he's been accused of. And the cruelty that he inflicted on people, namely me, only proves that he's impervious to human suffering -- except, of course, his own suffering. And isn't that the very definition of a sociopath?
Jack: You of all people are entitled to that point of view.
Ashley: Yes, thank you. I am. And I'm sorry if Faith is hurt by this, and it's unfortunate if Victor suffers any blowback. But all Billy did -- [ Scoffs ] All he did was peel back the curtain on a vile, contemptible human being. So whatever happens to Adam, he had it coming.
That is an excellent response. Glad Ashley called out Adam BS

I haven't watched in weeks but I will tune in to see Dina/Marla Adams farewell. I was actually fine with the Alzheimer's story for Dina. It grounded the show back in reality for a bit. Reminds me of the last time I took a hiatus, and then we lost Jeanne At least this time Marla is here to say goodbye.

I haven't been watching, what article is this?

Have you seen the vault posted in the Y&R: Old Articles thread? This full episode is in there, and there's a bunch from 1975.
I hadn't watched this scene in a long time. It resonates. Poor Jill trying to subtly bring up her mom's job, Katherine not hearing (deliberately? or is she that consumed with herself?). Such good dialogue for such a simple scene. And that shot of Jill entering the house for the first time and supporting a drunken Kay... what a contrast from Kay's final scene before Jeanne's passing. I love old Y&R cause I always notice something new.
I have not, but will be hurrying over now to check it all out - thanks so much! I agree with everything you said, the dialogue was simple but rich in its nuance. I think Katherine deliberately knew, and not addressing it made the scene so much richer. Not sure what happened with Brenda, but she was equally great here.

That’s wonderful. Katherine was such a bundle of nerves in the salon that I was feeling second-hand anxiety just watching her.
Jeanne Cooper’s voice changed so much over the years.
Watching Jill luxuriating in Katherine’s house, you can anticipate the decades of story that followed.
It really did change. I wish I could see more of this era Jeanne Cooper in action. Also, what happened to that maid?

They uploaded it again! I got it this time so in case it goes away.

My favourite was definitely the one with Vanessa and Lori. That was excellent

I miss Tonya Lee Williams, she had such a natural and grounded presence on the show

I'm actually enjoying 70's Y&R. It's vastly different from today and I'm fascinated with the way the show was originally written.

Looks like unfortunately that 70's clip of Jill entering Kay's home for the first time was taken down
Did anybody get a chance to save it?

I'm enjoying the friendships over the last couple of episodes (Nina/Christine, bachelorette party). I actually don't find LLB/Christine that insufferable here. Still miss Heather Tom. Losing some of these great actors really exposed Y&R's weak writing. For instance, even with some of the bad writing, I think Heather Tom, Tonya Lee Williams, Victoria Rowell, and Alex Donnnelly would've elevated the material (see: Sperm gate). The actors who have come in their place haven't been able too, with the exception of Michel Morgan when she played Hillary.
Oh, and I loved seeing Sandra Nelson again. My favourite Phyllis.
Also, Joshua Morrow is a stud. Damn. He's aged very well

I still think it’s wild to give Paul and Christine a week, but those episodes all look good. Not so much because of them, but the other stuff we can see. I especially look forward to seeing Vivica Fox here, which is before my time. While I think there were better ways to showcase Paul and Christine, I guess it’s nice they’re getting something.
Today with Emmy week I just finished Bryton’s episode and am now onto Eric Braeden’s episode. I know it’s unpopular, but I loved LML’s time at least until Victoria Rowell left. In this episode you got great business story, diversity with Ji Min and Adrian Korbel, the Winters as real multi-dimensional characters who mattered. It was lovely seeing a Victoria primarily supporting THEM. That wouldn’t happen now. In addition to Bryton, this was a year that Victoria Rowell deserved an Emmy. Idk who won in 2007, but that is Victoria’s Emmy.
The Victor episode is interesting but not because of him. I don’t know how he won for this. Eric Braeden should have multiple Emmys and it’s insane to me he only got one for blah work. What I love about this episode is getting to see the original Grace! I feel Josie Davis would’ve worked better as Victoria. She’s a fine actress but clearly they wanted to take the character in a different direction. This is the best I’ve seen of Shari Shattuck’s Ashley who I never enjoyed. The Malcolm/Dru, Olivia/Neil scenes were nice and I also loved Katherine and her fur visiting John.
It’s amazing how much they packed into these episodes. You still get a similar number of characters per episode now, but it’s just so damn boring.
I actually disliked the writing for Dru towards the end of LML. Unfortunately, VR acting also suffered and was OTT.
Eric Braeden is a fine actor.
I didn't get much from Byton performance and admittedly I did find his competition better based on their body of work. I don't fault Byrton, he did good work.
I must say I'm loving Brenda Epperson as Ashley! I wouldn't mind if they brought her back. Eileen is a fine actress, but BE adds a dimension of heart that's sometimes missing from ED.

And there is soo much other great scenes from those years that I hope we one day get to see, these are hard enough to come across.
Fingers crossed! I love the working class feeling and dialogue here.

I'm watching some clips from the 70's on YouTube and dammit is there any of these episodes laying around that Y&R could air? The background music is wonderful! The first clip with Brenda Dickson and Jeanne Cooper is fantastic.

Loved seeing Sabryn Genet again on my screen. Didn't need to see that lame Phyllis/Nick wedding, but it was nice seeing the Winters on screen again.

Does anyone have the episode after Sharon's gala? I wish they would do back to back episodes. Even though the premise was silly (the miracle plant lol), it was the last good umbrella storyline for me. Everyone involved was on their A game.
7 hours ago, Darn said:I've never seen Brenda Epperson's Ashley this much, I started watching long after she left, but I am loving her. I like her SO MUCH more than Eileen Davidson, who I think comes across as less an ice queen and more an icicle. Not a fan. But BE is hitting all the right notes for me, the ep someone posted yesterday where she's pissed at Victor for yelling at her was stellar. She went toe to toe with EB, which I find rare amongst his love interests.
I like Eileen Davidson, but yes Brenda Epperson really did a solid job at embodying the character and making her less spiteful.

Today's US episode is pretty decent for showing rarely seen parts of the expanded Newman Ranch set (the old one) hosting a gala, and then Kevin as he's about to light Gina's on fire, which used to be Jonas' and Pierre's prior to that, dating back to the start of Y&R.
I loved this period of Y&R, and this is actually one of my favourite episodes. It has everything in it. Nikki and Sharon were campy fun. I’d even take back this time of Y&R compared to today.Oh and Anita Hodges is on this one! That character such wasted potential and the actress was great.
Soon Heather Tom will be gone
And Gina’s too. I loved this period of Y&R, felt prime time
Greg Rikaart was awesome here but he should’ve never stayed on Y&R that long. Dying him to Michael was a brilliant move though. And in the start and with JVK Gloria it wasn’t all that bad.

Ok, so I actually enjoyed Eva Longoria time on Y&R (despite her looking ashamed of it in the past) and this period of Y&R. Lauralee Bell and Christine also improved substantially during this story.

I honestly think that the best part of YR through all the years is the Jill and Katherine feuding! Their fights were THE BEST! Its a shame that JC is deceased she will forever be the icon of this show
I agree. These two are what got me into Y&R. Katherine/Jill were always a stable of Y&R for me.
14 hours ago, full hearts said:I do think they would be better off with story arcs but I'm happy they are showing classics. It's somewhat keeping fans engaged. Especially when the newer episodes were so blah.
I agree, the choices could be more cohesive
23 hours ago, Faulkner said:I totally agree. And like someone said, it would have been so much harder for Michelle Stafford to steamroll her in scenes like she did SW.
Precisely. Alex Donnelly was sublime in the role. I also thought Maura West was horrible as Diane. She's a good actress, but she was not even close to being Diane. That was more of a Y&R castings mistake

The attic fight
Whoever decided to air the classics should get a raise with all the people working from home and getting to relive some of these classics. I also loved the music they used in that scene when Nikki leave with Victor alone just before the epic fight. I want them to do the episode where Jill crashes Kay's party too. I think Jess won the Emmy for that episode. Maybe another theme is Emmy winning episodes.

Amelia Heinle does not get any favours in the writing or directing department. I think she's capable, but they just write the character so poorly. Even LLB put more effort into Christine in her later years on the show.

Y&R: Ricky, Diane (despite Maura West awful portrayal), John Abbott (only because the story that followed was trash)
Marla was fantastic as Dina, but I think her exit story, was mostly good because it was grounded in reality.
