  1. More on the restored black soap "Personal Problems": https://www.filmcomment.com/blog/interview-ishmael-reed/

  2. I wrote about this all-black avant-garde soap opera from the creator of Ganja & Hess years ago, and I am amazed it has just gotten a restoration in preparation for re-release:

Back when all that existed were very poorly preserved Betamax tapes, I wrote about a screening of it here.

  3. Cannot get over Sara Gilbert's emotional access in the Roseanne premiere - I never knew she was that good an actress beyond her classic deadpan. That long pause when talking to her genderfluid son was old school Roseanne and made my heart ache, but it was clearly also the gay actress IRL having a moment.

      You're Soaking in it

I admit I got a litte teary-eyed at that moment. It was intense, but effortlessly. I feel like the scene just tapped into something very real.

  4. Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things is incredibly talented but by several accounts her management team and possibly family are her worst enemy:

This isn't about the show. The kids are sweethearts, and mostly seem quite well-adjusted. The issue is that Brown (who I don't think has anything to do with this herself) has a family that bankrupted itself trying to get her into Hollywood, and since the show's success has been very hamhanded with trying to power play agencies and shows to get more money. It's not doing her any favors, and she needs better management.

This is the second younger actor on the show to seem to be in a mess (although the drug guy was older so I should put that on him) and then that story came out a few weeks ago with a former employee making accusations. It's just a strange situation. But yes, Brown likely has a lot of problems elsewhere.

That story upon further exposure turned out to be very thin, at least so far. But no, Charlie Heaton is an adult who got busted with coke at the airport - that could be any TV show. Just saying, try it before you judge!

  5. We banned JONNYSBRO. When can we finally curse on this site?

It won't happen because it affects which advertisers will allow their ads to be on this site.

Jonny got banned? I never thought I'd see that day.

As far as I can tell he hasn't posted since we took Errol to task. He may lurk but he doesn't/can't post. Oddly, neither can Jerry whatever his name was.

Good to hear there will be a season 2. :)

  7. He's apparently sober and happy and looked well enough on The Tonight Show, but wow does Macaulay Culkin live one weird-ass life. (And that's even before he turned out to be dating Celia from AMC 2.0 for awhile)

Remember the Sally Struthers version playing at weird hours usually on a UHF station in the late '80's/early '90s? @Khan

Thanks. It was interesting to hear her talk about Living Single, and Hillary. I had no idea she was a surrogate.

Maybe, but those days are back! Also, that's pretty much her current uniform minus the Mar-Vell/Kree green instead of red.

After Hot Topic Wanda I don't have much faith in MCU to make the effort but hopefully it will work out.

    3. Vee

      Vee

Well, it's her actual superhero uniform so I dunno what to tell ya. I like it.

  8. I do not care for Grey's Anatomy, but this is one refreshingly raw interview from Ellen Pompeo: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/features/ellen-pompeo-tvs-20-million-woman-reveals-her-behind-scenes-fight-what-i-deserve-1074978

    1. DRW50

      DRW50

I saw that some people were upset with her comments about Faye Dunaway, but I thought she was just being honest about a life in Hollywood for actresses (although Dunaway burned a lot of bridges).

    2. DaytimeFan

      DaytimeFan

@DRW50 I don't know why people are upset about the Faye Dunaway comment. Ellen wasn't insulting Dunaway, she was stating the fact that Faye was a major star and has nothing to show for it, financially, when the men she worked for are filthy rich. Pompeo is making her money and good for her. She's one of the few, like Suzanne Somers and Joan Collins before her, whose willing to talk about what money she's making so that other actresses can know what they're actually worth.

    3. Vee

      Vee

Jamey Giddens, of all people, drew parallels from this interview to the Genie Francis situation - the thing is, he's absolutely right. Not just about how long Pompeo and Francis kept their shows and characters viable and moneymaking for more than a few years, but also in how the networks attempted to use their male leads to leverage them for the salary lowball.

  9. Nafessa Williams - lampooned for her work as Deanna on OLTL - has grown into a solid actress playing a queer superheroine on CW's Black Lightning, and I for one am going to credit her recurring role on Twin Peaks as being responsible for it all

    1. Taoboi

      Taoboi

       I thought that was her.

Always nice to see OLTL stars doing well.

  10. Sharon Stone is trending at the  Golden Globes and I am happy for that crazy bird. She was fantastic in Steven Soderbergh's interactive series Mosaic, free on your mobile device! #shamelessplug

  11. DeWanda Wise *may* be playing Monica Rambeau in Captain Marvel: http://deadline.com/2018/01/shes-gotta-have-it-dewanda-wise-captain-marvel-brie-larson-1202235891/

      NothinButAttitude

Good for her! Love DeWanda and glad she's getting a lot of shine lately. I wish her hubby, Alano, who is equally is talented, would get some shine too.

      WOW. That takes me back.

  13. Apparently Series 10 of Doctor Who is finally coming to Amazon Prime in January. God willing.

  14. Laura Dern's big scene in The Last Jedi really should have featured this new Twin Peaks classic:

  15. A little amazed to see 90s queen and 90210 recurring favorite Christine Elise reappear after all these years in her old role in the Child's Play films. I wondered where she went.

      Emily Valentine....good times, good times...

    2. All My Shadows

      All My Shadows

Most importantly, though, is she showing Chucky (or Andy) how to exchange an egg? Is her chin still the stuff of dreams?

  16. And in nerd news: I should care more about the monopoly, but right now all I care about is that Disney owns the X-Men and Fantastic Four and they can finally come in out of the cold.

    1. DRW50

      DRW50

The new X-Men movie - has it already been made?

I wish they could put Ioan Guffud in the FF movies again...

    2. Vee

      Vee

It has. But I think it's all forfeit now - I like a lot of the current cast but the continuity is a shitshow. I assume they will hard reboot everything but Deadpool, who has a long history of commenting on corporate ownership and breaking the fourth wall/existing outside continuity. (I have my doubts the upcoming New Mutants movie will not be a one-off as well, despite a solid cast - I think the premise is a bit too esoteric and I'm not convinced they're getting the Demon Bear story right)

I've wanted this for the poor Fantastic Four since Iron Man. The First Family is tailor made for the MCU.

  17. Those hicks fuckin' did it!

  18. I'm behind but yikes: The Walking Dead just made a huge change and I think it's a mistake.
