Thanks for sharing that. At least he seemed to be much more respectful and not exploitive, although I can see where people would still see this as exploitation. I am glad to hear she has something of a support system.

      It is a lovely piece.

      Update!

  2. Wonder Woman 1984 isn't just set in the 80s but has the goofy, broad plot logic of an actual 80s or 90s superhero movie. It's not exactly a great movie but I am amazed they went for something this outright silly and campy. Elements of it reminded me of a Christopher Reeve Superman sequel and the actors are a hoot, so I guess that's the most you can ask for from a DC Comics movie at this point.

  3. 80% certain this IRS hold music as I search for my damn stimulus check is some primetime 80s soap theme bc it is a jam tbh

Have you ttied the Get My Payment option on the website? I tried it last night (after giving up on it earlier in the day) and actually found out that my check is being mailed tomorrow. Now that I have a new bank (which I had just closed an account before the pandemic, which was why I had to give an address, in the first place) wanted to add my information for direct deposit but they had no option for that.

There were long wait times if you visited the website during the day yesterday but I went on last night and got through quickly. Off peak hours, I guess.

I did. It said my payment was deposited in my account yesterday. It wasn't. The bank has no record of it. I feared I was one of the people who used TurboTax and got theirs sent to them, but I don't know for certain. Now I'm just trying to get answers.

      Oh dear.

My mom almost experienced something similar but when I checked for her, I noticed that there was a lag in processing. Her money was supposed to be deposited yesterday but the transaction didn't appear on the digital statement until this morning. At least, last night, there was an indication that it was 'in transit', or whatever it's called.

I hope you get your money soon. I understand how frustrating it can be.

  4. Hugh Grant deserves not just an Emmy but an Oscar for The Undoing, my issues with certain elements aside. Did not know he was capable of this and even in its excesses the show accomplishes a lot of what daytime soap has left behind.

The first I ever knew of Hugh Grant was when I saw him in Maurice.

What a poignant way to bring in 2021.  Thanks for sharing.  And, of course, may your 2021 be safe and blessed and sane.

  6. RIP Ann Reinking.

That second number is absolutely beautiful. Reinking was such a strong presence physically that Hollywood likely never would have known what to do with her (wasn't she in some bigamy movie with Dudley Moore and similarly poorly used Amy Ivring...), but this is beautiful.

Here's an old camp piece she did in Movie Movie, with Harry Hamlin at his best.

She did a fair amount of TV and film, but I agree she remained made for the stage. I remember her doing awards show performance stuff in the 80s, I think. I wonder how Margaret Qualley did playing her in Fosse/Verdon - she's a lovely young actress and I know she was determined to get Reinking right.

People talk about the Beyhive but Depp defenders really do swarm people at the slightest mention. I've seen it happen on social media- two people on my social media TL were assessing Depp's career over decades and someone who none of us follow (or vice versa) dropped into their mentions. I saw them post about how bizarre it was.

Pretty good. A very real RL soap opera. I've had a few of those people in my family (though not as extreme) and I'm sure some other posters have to.

  9. Dionne Warwick is taking names on Twitter and none can stop her: https://www.vulture.com/2020/12/dionne-warwick-twitter-chance-the-rapper-weeknd.html

I loved that she asked Chance the Rapper why he needs to tell people he's a rapper. Just the most brilliant of friendly shade.

Clowning The Weeknd and people's Spotify playlists are it for me.

  10. This Macy's parade feed is ominous, lol. No one on the streets and Ronald McDonald in a face shield and waving at nothing.

Did they really talk over Patti Labelle and then cut away from her?

    3. DramatistDreamer

      DramatistDreamer

I am hearing from my social media TL that people were actually appreciative of the fact that, instead of having people fly from across the country, they get to see local performers that they wouldn't normally see. Until today, some people had no idea what a Mermaid Parade existed or what it's about, lol.

I saw someone saying Bebe Roxha looked like Manos of Manos Hands of Fate.

  11. Finally watched the West Wing live performance from HBO Max (which you can watch free on their site all year). They wisely openly acknowledge during the act breaks that the show is now an idealistic fantasy compared to today, but it has a lot to offer. Richard Schiff's performance when he urges Sheen to make it an election between "qualified and not" was clearly emotional for him and resonant with today. I'm glad to hear he is apparently out of hospital.

Never really watched the show, or cared for Sorkin, but the seething, obsessive hatred many fauxgressives have it makes me happy it went well.

  12. I don't play them today but as a kid who blew way too much damn money on the original 3 Mortal Kombat arcade games, seeing the movie actors (including daytime's own Linden Ashby) return and Bridgette Wilson replace Ronda Rousey makes me happy.

  13. Will Smith (of course) did a Red Table Talk discussing the Janet Hubert reunion even more. I've always been cynical about him, but I feel he did this right in the reunion and here. https://www.facebook.com/redtabletalk/videos/3823074501060289/

The above most recent video at the link has a lot more of the convo with Smith and Hubert. A lot of what he says about his compulsive need to perform and make people laugh in spite of when it was appropriate or necessary is what always has rubbed me wrong about him even when I liked some of his earlier work. I liked him owning that and explaining where it comes from.

  14. I guess I'm going to do the HBO Max trial tonight for the FP reunion like the fool I am for Real Aunt Viv content

Daphne Maxwell-Reid was never at her best on FP bc the Vivian role was neutered with the recast, but she is a very solid actress. Watching her greet Hubert with "welcome home" was all class.

So sad 😢. I love game shows just as much as daytime dramas. Jeopardy was a big part of my childhood/teen years.

Has to do with the angel guy and Jensen Ackles. I can't even describe it so you best look it up. I watched the scene and was embarrassed for all involved. It was simultaneously homophobic and wildly tone deaf.

    3. DRW50

      DRW50

Ah. I looked it up. Yeah. Some vocal fans wanted "canon Destiel." It's very Supernatural and very Jensen (who was NEVER comfortable with the idea of a queer Dean even though the character was heavily coded as bisexual) to play that type of game. Sad. Not surprising.
