  1. There comes a time where fat-shaming and borderline transphobic behaviour does need to be called out - and it isn’t often enough on these kinds of boards. We, particularly the LGBT+ folk on this board, need to do MUCH better at being inclusive and holding ourselves and each other to account.

I think Soapsuds is the least of the board's current problems but he's made a lot of people uncomfortable for a very long time, it's just there's very few of us who openly say it. That being said, he is occasionally capable of intelligent conversation. I don't care much for him but I think he cares about the board and the genre. I think his behavior should've been corrected long ago but I don't hate him and I wouldn't report him, unlike the many reports many of us have made about actual trolls which are actively and proudly ignored. That problem is my priority.

  2. With Michael McDonald a key part of Halloween Kills, the time is now for Debra Wilson to star in Halloween Ends.

He was alright. The gay couple living in Michael Myers' house was kooky but so were most tertiary characters. It was a bit like Robert Altman's Halloween. Not for everyone but I had fun.

It's just the same old troll(s). Block, ignore, report.

The lesson was simple enough the first time, which is to stop quoting them, replying to them and dunking on them. Seems like we had to tell people that 300 times when J*nny first got banned before they got the msg: Dunk posts only give the troll or trolls what they want. The only way to handle them is ignore, block, report and then harass the mods until action is taken.

  7. Ellen Pompeo admitting that she screamed at Denzel Washington and called him an MFer because he told her not to ad lib while he was directing a Grey's Anatomy episode was infuriating to read. She is racist, but refuses to admit it.

There are/were plenty of toxic egos to go around on Grey's, but the bit about her allegedly getting Jerrika Hinton pushed out for not clearing her IG posts with Pompeo is a lot. She often seems to forget that before this show her only major credit was being the two-scene Karen Page in Ben Affleck's Daredevil.

  8. The longevity Jean Smart has had in her career is always great to see. So many varied roles that keep coming, and I always felt she was the glue in the original Designing Women ensemble.

I think 24 kind of rebooted her TV career a little, ironically in a dramatic role as the tortured, alcoholic First Lady to Gregory Itzin's power-mad POTUS. She was so good.

  9. Despite the overwhelming reaction thus far from certain quarters to recent events on GH, I’m still finding myself watching the scenes just for the interactions and seeing how it unfolds. It is somehow still maintaining my interest, and that is saying something.

Perhaps it’s my neurodiversity at play here, but I guess I’m looking at things from a different angle to everyone else. And that’s something I actively embrace.

This is the wrong forum to come to for neurotypical people, to put it mildly. Maybe we just have different opinions.

I don't know that scene very well but if it's the persistent issue I think, I'm fairly certain it's not a stranger.

It's sold well and Marvel loves Hickman, so judging by his own commentary it's probably going to run at least another 2-3 years. They may keep elements of the status quo afterwards, like they did with his FF run.

  17. Steven Soderbergh tosses out so many films of varying quality that it's easy to both overrate and underrate him, and Meryl Streep phones in her usual popular set so often these days that it can be easy to miss when she's really engaged. But HBO Max's Let Them All Talk is a deceptively meandering sleeper from late last year that deserves more recognition and it is, in many ways, both pure soap and almost Bergman-esque. Candice Bergen should have been nominated.

That's weird. Try reloading it? And yes, Wiest is having a bit of a renaissance again lately. I always liked her. The film was also largely improvised (from an outline).

I have not mentioned the X-Men's upcoming month-long Hellfire Gala event on SON before, in which all the X-Men comics for the month of June will be set on the same night at the same gala event, but rest assured I was thinking of y'all! It's as pure a soap opera sweeps month as comic books have ever come. https://www.marvel.com/articles/comics/how-to-read-x-men-hellfire-gala-issues-announcement

I was going to mention him @BetterForgotten. I grew up on Claremont's original X-Men run (and the current era is the most excited I've been since, but that's another topic). While Lee and Ditko, etc. created the soap elements with Spider-Man, Mary Jane et al or the Fantastic Four or Avengers' personal dramas in the '60s, Claremont redefined comic book soap opera with looooongggg-term serialization and subplots.

Re: the crumbs, it's also worth nodding to the fact that they've since made Iron Man, Thor and Captain America (post-Iraq War!) all household names globally on par with Spider-Man, Superman or Batman (if not bigger than Superman at least) now, so they're far from crumbs today. Black Panther, Scarlet Witch, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, Shang-Chi, Eternals, etc. were all formerly very niche Marvel comic properties which are now all commercially viable for the mass market. That was unthinkable a decade ago.

Comics have always been soap opera. The MCU is absolutely a live action extension of that.

"Captain Marvel 2" now appears to be called "The Marvels", which suggests Carol and Monica Rambeau are co-starring.
