  1. Going back a long time but, on EON, I wondered at what point they decided that Sky Whitney #1 wasn't the real deal? I know when the character debuted he was, for all we knew, Sky. At some point the Jeff Brown storyline started. Was that the plan all along or did somebody along the way go "I know, let's make Sky an imposter"?

Also, on OLTL, why was it so hard to figure out which Gordon sister, the older Megan or the younger Sarah, was Viki's daughter if Roger Gordon didn't have any other children at the time she was conceived?

  2. So...with the plethora of remakes, sequels, prequels, tributes, etc. in recent (and even not so recent) years...how do you feel when old shows, of any genre, get redone?

Are you against the idea in general? Are you generally open to new interpretations? Does it depend on how well done you feel they are or how near/far in style they seem from the original? A case by case basis type of thing?

  3. GH - What if Ryan Chamberlain had not been turned into a psycho? JL and Kristina Wagner had some nice, romantic chemistry going on prior to that and I always wanted to see that play out rather than have him be a psycho killer and her ending up with Mac.

GH - What if Genie Francis hadn't left GH in the early 80s at the height of L & L's popularity? Aside from how would their story have continued to play out, there would have been no need for the introductions of Emma Samms, Janine Turner and who would eventually become the bigger star, Demi Moore. Come to think of it, Genie may also have not ended up meeting and marrying Jonathan Frakes had she stayed throughout rather than leaving twice in a few years' span.

EON- What if the show hadn't been cancelled? What would the next mystery have been?

I am a classic TV fan. What actors do you think should have done soaps later in their career ?

    Kristy McNichol (Family)

Her brother, Jimmy, was on GH.

Some of my picks (and I'm not sure if any of them did actually appear on daytime):
John Astin (I could see him as a quirky character on DOOL circa mid 1980s)
Lee Majors could have been a Buchanan relative on OLTL (thinking of his Big Valley experience)
Bill Bixby had he lived...a doctor character anywhere.
Barbara Bain could have a played a cool, dispassionate shrink, maybe a Gail Baldwin/GH type.

  5. I've been binging Stargate:Universe on amazon. I can see why it's like the relative nobody wants to talk about. I'm about halfway through the 2nd (and final) season so far. It bears very little resemblance to the rest of the franchise. They were obviously trying to appeal to the younger demo because most of the cast looks to be in their mid 20s-early 30s and it's a darker, grittier scenario. More sex, more personal drama, a lot of documentary-style camera techniques and flashbacks into the personal lives of a bunch of uninteresting characters. It's completely serialized and comes across more like a CW angst-filled drama with the stargate being almost incidental. And there's a music montage in every episode.

The actors seem totally bland and uninteresting to me, with the exception of Robert Carlyle, who has been great at making me forget Rumple/Mr. Gold. And Lou Diamond Phillips, who is a recurring guest.

I don't totally hate it but I can see why it only lasted 2 seasons.

Gene Bua and Toni Bull met and married while both on Love of Life. Their onscreen characters Tess and Bill were also married.

Although I hadn't really known who she was I recognized Toni Bua's name from her having adopted a dog several years ago rescued by "Hope For Paws". They put a lot of their rescues on youtube. Toni adopted Miley, who was found in bad shape living in a garbage dump. There's a video of the party she had to welcome Miley home. I think they may have only had a year or two together before Toni passed away of cancer.

  7. That Jon Lindstrom/Cady McClain marriage surprised me just now. I've been away from modern-day soaps and soap news (except for here) for a long time! Or, if I knew it, I forgot it!

Genie Francis dated the original Stavros Cassadine, John Martinuzzi, for several years. Breakup was apparently an especially bad one as he did an interview years later talking about being an alcoholic and he said if GH would have approached him to reprise the role, Genie would have opposed it.

Ryan's Hope co-stars Richard Muenz (Joe Novak #1) and Nana Visitor (then Tucker and then Nancy Feldman) lived together. Randall Edwards & Roscoe Born married and divorced. Cali Timmins & Geoff Pierson still married.

On AMC back in the day, the actors playing Billy Clyde Tuggle and Estelle (Matthew Cowles and Kathleen Dezina) were married, later divorced. Also, Kim Delaney (Jenny) was married, now divorced, from Charles Flohe/Grant (who started out as Preacher on EON).

OLTL seemed to spawn a number of relationships.
Judith Light met her husband Robert Desiderio when he played Steve Piermont.
Fiona Hutchison (Gabrielle) and John Viscardi (Father Tony) met and have been married over 20 years.
Andrea Evans (Tina) was once married to Wayne Massey (Johnny Drummond).
Gerald Anthony (Marco) & Brynn Thayer (Jenny) were married and divorced.
Stephen Schnetzer (Marcello) and Nancy Snyder (Katrina) have been married for 35+ years.
Kamar de los Reyes (Antonio) and Sherri Saum (Keri) married.

Lynn Herring & Wayne Northrup still married.

Tristan Rogers and Emma Samms dated while on GH.

  8. This Susan Lucci article caught my eye because my mom also got stents (3 of them) over a year ago. Unlike Susan, she didn't have any pains or symptoms and, in fact, was undergoing stress testing for a potential shoulder arthroscopic surgery when the blockages were discovered.

    https://people.com/health/susan-luccis-emergency-heart-procedure-i-feel-lucky-to-be-alive/

BTW, Susan and Helmut will be married 50 years this year.

  9. Agree with those who mentioned Linda Lavin on Alice and SMG on Buffy.

Sort of a 2nd lead with this one but I didn't like DiNozzo/Michael Weatherly on NCIS. I especially tended to fast-forward the first scene in the office where they all chitchat (mostly because of him)...although I still do it now, too, that he's gone. The narcissism and badgering was just annoying to me. To hear it from Eliza Dushku these days, it seems DiNozzo and Weatherly are not all that different.

  10. So....I gave this one more try. I watched the season premiere. Finally admitted I either don't like or don't care about these characters. I understand the show is based on books that I've never read so I guess I'm coming at it from outside but I keep comparing it to other shows that just seem to have done it all better, like Supernatural and Buffy. I'm glad there's talk of a Grimm 2.0.

  11. The first one from that EON period would be on eonschuylerwhitney's channel, episode 6051 (7/17/79). This is the same starting episode from when AOL was streaming them some years back.  Apart from the occasional single-episode omittance, there are some gaps of missing episodes later on...so far I've come across several weeks during Nov/Dec 1980 and the better part of January-early June 1981 missing. The early part, for instance, of the Raven & Jeff Brown/FauxSky relationship wasn't there.

Where is The Edge of Night streaming? I'd love to watch that again, if I can enjoy the Henry Slesar episodes rather than the dreadful Lee Sheldon garbage.

There are 2 folks on youtube I subscribe to that have the eps from mid-1979 to the end: eonschuylerwhitney and MrEdge80s.

  13. I just started the first half dozen or so episodes of the original Dark Shadows (I had only ever seen the brief 1990s remake). I've heard things are kind of slow in the beginning. So far I'm just having fun spotting the familiar faces....although I didn't even recognize Joel Crothers looking very unlike Miles Cavanaugh. The acting so far seems to comes across very theatrical, as if they are on stage doing a play in front of an audience.

  14. Just curious...how is anybody posting anything DOOL on youtube at this point with their copyright police in seemingly full force? I'm asking because I haven't uploaded anything in over 10 years and stopped because it wasn't worth the effort, what with getting the e-mails later that they got blocked. I used to have about 50-60 soap clips on that account, all 1980s-1990s, nothing current. Over the years, they've reduced that to about half...particularly BMG with the music clips in some of the soap scenes and Sony. I just got another 7 e-mails about blocked videos, all Sony, all posted more than 10 years ago and all Steve & Kayla. I've gotten a few others the last few weeks. Funny, I have another channel with some old GL clips and I never hear a peep about those....maybe because that one has a lot fewer subscribers or less interest.

  15. Been binging The Edge of Night this week. Almost to the end of Draper's amnesia story which I actually ff-ed through as I saw it when AOL first streamed the episodes years ago and once was enough. Feels long even ff-ing! Always found Draper and April (and Emily) rather boring. -_- But I originally saw the show only in its last few years so I missed a lot of its history.

Sometimes LOST and Dark Shadows on HULU

DS is on my watchlist but haven't started it yet. I've never seen a single episode of the original but they have it on several streaming platforms, I see.

I see a few of us got into Unsolved Mysteries lately. Love that they brought it back, and with updates, where possible. I'm almost done with the Stack episodes.

  17. Just thought I'd start a topic about what everybody's currently watching...like, maybe your regular shows aren't airing right now so you're tuning into something else, or you found time to watch something you'd been meaning to see, or something you discovered recently. Here are some of mine:

Detective Anna - a Russian show (with subtitles) on Amazon Prime. Takes place in the late 1800s in a small Russian town and it's about a 19 year old medium who unofficially helps the police solve crimes. It's pretty good.

The Doctors - I'm way behind but I've watched most of 1970 the last few weeks

I started some other older shows on my watch list during the summer but haven't binged them at this point:

Babylon 5 - couldn't last through 5 minutes of it and took it off the list. I think the silly spiked hair makeup jobs turned me off.
Earth Final Conflict - about the same as above. Just zzzzz...
Torchwood - watched 2 or 3 episodes so far...can't say I love it but will give it another chance or two before I decide
The Time Tunnel - 60s classic...kinda meh about it but that may partly be because it's on youtube in reduced-screen fashion (to avoid the copyright bot I guess)
Unsolved History (not to be confused with Unsolved Mysteries, which I binged earlier this year)
Star Trek Into Darkness (film)....wow, that sucked on so many levels

I've made a bit of a game of things. Since I have a bunch of stuff on my watch lists and sometimes don't know what I feel like watching, I wrote them all down on little pieces of paper and folded them. When I don't know what to watch next, I'll pull one of the papers and watch at least an episode of whatever is written on it.

    Mike/Michael has been pretty popular

    Mike Corbin

At one time, I thought you couldn't be part of the Corinthos clan if you weren't named Michael. There was Mike Corbin (aka Michael Corinthos, Sr.),  Michael Corinthos, Jr. (Sonny), Michael (Stone) Cates, Carly's son Michael. Years earlier, I think the Webbers (Rick & Ginny) adopted a kid named Mikey, too.

  19. I had taped a lighthearted episode of Geraldo once that featured celebrity bachelors and how they would approach women. This was the late 1980s and among the guests were Robin Leach, Yakov Smirnoff, Jack Wagner, Keith Hernandez, Cleavon Little, Storm Field and Russ Anderson, who was playing Steve Holden on OLTL at the time...and would come out of the closet years later.

This one was more a personal feeling but Larkin Malloy was one of my early favorites from when he was on EON. First, he got hit by a car. Then he had some kind of apparent meltdown on a hotel balcony in Italy, I think it was. From then on, I got this concern in my head that the man was not going to have a long life. Even though he went on to continue working (not always in front of the camera) for decades and had basically a normal life, I just felt like he was going to go too early. When he passed in his 60s, part of me was stunned and another part of me was like I knew it was going to happen even though I had hoped it wouldn't.
