The acting and dialogue was so bad in those Jake/Danny fight scenes. Teenage boys don’t speak like that.

I think I spit out the water in my mouth when Aiden barged in with, “Stop! You guys are family! Don’t do this to each other!” As if the two were fighting over his affection. 😆 All that poor kid wants to do is bake his cookies in peace!

I am so effing glad someone said this. The Holly Gagnier School of Acting should be invoked immediately…wait, I take that back.  The scenes with the green teens are so cringe, it’s painful.

  2. High stakes drama in August of 1974! I would love to see these episodes! Enjoy!

Thursday, August 1, 1974: Howie annoys Lucille by saying that he wants to arrange daily press conferences.  Joel tells Jim he did a great job in surgery and that in the future it would be a privilege to assist him.  Augusta notices Peter’s businesslike attitude and asks if he holds it against her that she behaved like a woman; Augusta mentions to Jane that she will be having a man friend over once-in-a-while and that Jane may recognize him, but must not say anything about it.  Diana and Peter meet by accident in the medicine room; Diana is cool and hurt, saying that she expected something different from Peter; he tries to explain why he hasn’t been home, but Augusta interrupts before he can.

Friday, August 2: Henry tells Mai-Lin she is safe in the hospital; Lucille talks to him about a new patient, Henry Jenkins - - who has stomach issues and a bandaged hand. When Joel asks Jim to participate in another surgery, Jim makes up an excuse not to.  Owen notices Diana’s wedding rings, and tells her they make him uncomfortable; she removes them and says her marriage is over.  Henry checks the new patient, Harry Jenkins, but when he approaches the man’s hand, he angrily jerks it away and demands Henry stay away from his hand.

Monday, August 5: Henry decides he needs Steve’s advice on handling Jenkins.  Kira comes home to find her boss, Hayes Colman, waiting for her in her apartment; he’s listened to Kira’s tapes about Mai-Lin.  Howie is home alone when Jane comes to get more of her belongings; he attempts to force himself on her, but she fights him off, slapping him.  Owen tells Joel he hopes for a future with Diana and is willing to fight the competition.  Diana finds the note Peter wrote when he came to the apartment, and assumes that he decided it wasn’t worth trying to talk through their problems; she tells Martha she must make a life for just the two of them.

Tuesday, August 6: Steve returns and is concerned about Mai-Lin; Steve tells Henry he feels responsible for what happened and is going to investigate.  Howie asks Lee to represent him in a divorce action; Lee refuses.  Lesley notices that Peter is formal towards Augusta to the point of almost being rude; Lesley questions Peter on his change in behavior toward Augusta, annoying him; Lesley sees Diana holding her wedding rings, and tells her she thinks Diana is making a mistake; uptight, Diana tells Lesley she can’t take much more of Lesley’s interfering.

Wednesday, August 7: Wallace Baxter tells Steve that Mai-Lin has to return home as soon as she is able, and he will make sure of it.  Steve goes to see Kira, who expects a warm reunion, but Steve is too preoccupied with Mai-Lin’s predicament.  Joel tells Audrey that Jim has fallen behind and has been having other doctors cover his cases; Audrey is distressed.  Augusta comes into Owen’s room with a box of flowers - - they are for Diana from Owen - - when Diana leaves, Augusta encourages Owen on his feelings for Diana.

Thursday, August 8: Steve tells Howie to cancel his press conference plans; Howie reacts and tells Steve he is tired of having to do what Steve tells him.  Howie goes home for lunch and surprises Mrs. Dawson with the news that he has quit his job and is moving out of the apartment; Mrs. Dawson is stricken, but Howie assures her that a new Howie is emerging.  Audrey returns home to find Jim drinking; when she questions his change since Owen’s surgery he refuses to explain, making Audrey feel cut out of his life.

Friday, August 9: Jenkins opens a suitcase revealing he has a gun.  Steve tells Mai-Lin when she is released from the hospital she has to return to China.  Kira admits to Steve that her boss listened to her tapes on Mai-Lin and is afraid he will use the material; Steve is furious.  Peter admits to Lesley he is not proud of his recent behavior.  Owen takes a first step and is elated; he asks Diana to marry him.

Monday, August 12: Harry Jenkins puts his gun under his mattress.  Lucille tells Steve that she is willing to take a leave of absence from the hospital to take a job appointment with the governor.  Joel talks to Jim about the number of things Jim has let slide; Jim gets angry.  When Diana tries to give her rings back to Peter, he refuses to take them; Peter goes to Augusta’s apartment impulsively; Augusta encourages him to quit swimming upstream and that she thinks he is afraid of his feelings for her;  Jane, who lives across the hall from Augusta, sees Peter leaving.

Tuesday, August 13: Jessie finds a vial of cleaning fluid in Jenkins’ room and brings it to Steve; Steve begins to speculate if this man is somehow connected to Mai-Lin.  The 7th floor staff gives Lucille a surprise farewell party.  Mr. Thurston gives Audrey a veiled warning that Jim will have to change his behavior.  Kira gets a typed manuscript of the Mai-Lin story from Hayes Colman; she tries to charm him out of broadcasting it, without success.  Steve goes into Jenkins’ room and begins to cut the bandages of the sedated man’s hand.  The phone rings, waking Jenkins.  He grabs on to Steve’s arm before answering the phone.

Wednesday, August 14: Augusta explains to Jane that Peter is a very special friend.  Jenkins pulls his gun on Steve and makes Steve take him to Mai-Lin’s room.  When Joel tries to kiss Lesley, she makes an excuse and slips away.  Jenkins enters Mai-Lin’s room with Steve at gunpoint, demanding to know where the Bible is; she gives him the Bible that Steve gifted her, but Jenkins realizes it isn’t the right one; Steve says he has the other Bible at his hotel, and Jenkins says that he will go with Steve to get it.

Thursday, August 15: Owen tells Augusta that he has proposed to Diana; Augusta is pleased.  Jessie and Henry see Steve and Jenkins leaving; Steve tells Jessie he is taking Jenkins to the fourth floor to see Dr. Baxter; Jessie realizes something is wrong because the fourth floor is the maternity ward, and there is no Dr. Baxter at General; Jessie and Henry rush to Mai-Lin and find her frightened and upset;  she tells them Jenkins has a gun and he is taking Steve to retrieve the Bible from Steve’s hotel room; Jessie alerts Wallace Baxter and Henry calls Kira who is going to try to get to the Bible before Steve and Jenkins get to the room.  Audrey tells Jim that people are wondering if he is ill because of his recent behavior; Jim tells her that he is sure he won’t be able to do cardiac surgery anymore.  Lesley and Joel go out for ice cream and kiss.  Kira arrives at Steve’s room, but is trapped when Steve and Jenkins arrive; she hides in the bathroom.

Friday, August 16: Owen tells Joel that insurance won’t cover the cost of his surgery and he will probably have to sell his house to pay for it.  Steve frantically searches for the Bible, but can’t find it; Jenkins gives him five minutes to find it.  Jim tells Audrey that his hand can’t do the required manipulations for successful cardiac surgeries; Jim is miserable and has to fight to keep from breaking.  Peter calls Diana and tells her he is leaving town for a few days to get some perspective.  Kira comes out of hiding and gives Jenkins the Bible; Jenkins rips out the page he is looking for and starts to leave; he thinks better of it and turns back, telling Kira and Steve that they know too much.

Monday, August 19: Jenkins decides he has to take Steve and Kira as his hostages.  Owen tells Augusta that he must have been too pushy with Diana, as she hasn’t been to see him since he proposed - - without Diana he has no will to live, because of her he wants to get well.  Kira stalls for time by dropping the contents of her purse and picking them up; Wallace Baxter and the police jump Jenkins and arrest him; Steve calls Jessie and tells her that he and Kira are alright; Henry tells Mai-Lin the good news and though she is very happy she says that there is one great sadness and that is that she will have to leave Henry.

Tuesday, August 20: Jim brings a bottle to his office and puts it in his desk drawer.  Owen is uptight and lets Joel know it; he is worried about the money it’s going to take to pay for his hospitalization and if Diana is interested in a future with him.  Kira tells Steve she may lose her job because she angered her boss by not releasing the story before it made it to the newspapers; Steve tells her he is grateful to her and that she saved his life.

Wednesday, August 21: Mai-Lin is happy to learn that she can live in a country of her choice.  Jane tells Mrs. Dawson that she is divorcing Howie.  August and Lesley argue about Peter and Diana; Augusta tells Lesley what a shame it is that Peter won’t have his own child with Diana and that if he wants a child of his own, it’s going to have to be with another woman.

Thursday, August 22: Lee tells Jane that he will represent her in a divorce action against Howie.  A new patient, Mr. Osgood, refuses to allow Lesley, a woman doctor, to examine him; she enlists Joel’s help in checking Mr. Osgood; she is frustrated by Joel when he agrees with Mr. Osgood, who doesn’t want to be examined in front of a woman doctor.  Jim tells Joel that Owen is not making the progress they hoped for; he tells Joel to do whatever he can to keep Owen’s mind at ease.  Henry tells Mai-Lin that he loves her.

Friday, August 23: Wallace Baxter calls Steve with word that Mai-Lin’s father is very ill.  Jane admits to Augusta that she wishes she had another baby; she says she never really thought of herself with anyone other than Howie.  Steve tells Audrey that the hospital administration will probably tell Jim he has to take a leave of absence or be fired.  Augusta throws away her birth control pills.

Monday, August 26: Steve tells Jim that a complaint against him will be presented to the board to the effect that Jim is not properly managing the cardiac unit; Jim is furious.  Joel admits to Augusta that the uncertainty of a future with Diana is taking a toll on Owen physically.  Mai-Lin decides she must leave America as soon as she can to be with her father; she is very conflicted and sad, particularly because of Henry.  Jim confronts Steve and tells him to stop playing God; Steve tells Jim he needs to modify his behavior, if not for his sake at least for Audrey’s; Jim accuses Steve of still being in love with Audrey.

Tuesday, August 27: Audrey receives a letter from Lucille.  Joel tells Diana how much Owen misses her, but he hopes that Owen’s affection is no burden; Diana says that Owen has been good for her.  Jim apologizes to Steve for his outburst yesterday, he realizes he’s been taking Audrey for granted and letting his work at the hospital slide; he thanks Steve for bearing with him.  Henry is devastated to learn that Mai-Lin is leaving to be with her father.  Owen tries to be casual, but is excited and tense seeing Diana for the first time since he proposed; he asks if she is having problems with the breakup of her marriage, and she admits she is; Owen tells her he went through a difficult time when he got divorced; he hopes that his love will help and asks her what her feelings for him are; she says she will tell him when she knows herself.

Wednesday, August 28: Henry buys a diamond ring for Mai-Lin.  Diana finds a letter for Augusta from Peter.  Diana invites Owen to recuperate under her care at her apartment.  There is a small going away party for Mai-Lin; Steve gives her a letter to give to her father saying that Steve would be proud to adopt her as his daughter if Jung Lu would feel easier knowing she had a family in America; Henry arrives and gives her the ring; he is terribly sad when she leaves.

Thursday, August 29: Joel tells Owen he needs to get out of the hospital.  Lesley is distressed when Augusta tells her that Diana has invited Owen to recuperate at her apartment.  Jim tells Audrey he is going to be a new man; he throws all of his liquor away; Audrey gets an emergency call that Lucille has been taken to Cedar’s Hospital with pneumonia.  Lesley asks Diana why she asked Owen to move in; she tells Lesley that she thinks she can be happy helping someone and that Owen proposed to her.

Friday, August 30: Audrey reports to Al that Lucille has viral pneumonia; Al says he will drop everything to go to be with her; Audrey tells Jim that she hates to have to leave him.  Owen is ecstatic when Joel tells him that he is medically fit to go to Diana’s to recuperate.  After Audrey leaves, Jim is at loose ends; he lifts one of the bottles from the trash and takes a drink; he calls the hospital and cancels his meetings.  Diana learns that Peter will be returning on Tuesday, the day of her and Peter’s anniversary and the day Owen moves in; Augusta is less happy about Peter’s return when she learns he is returning on the day of his and Diana's anniversary.

Now, I'm not getting onto you for asking the question. Any serious question is valid.

I didn’t take it like that, my question was serious. I’m just throwing things out there to make sense of the entire mess.  Back when PM was writing the show, I wasn’t into who was writing what or who created who, so all of the writers blend from back then.  But now that I’m grown and the inner workings of how the show was and is made got me questioning.  Thanks for entertaining my question! Back to hiding, I go.

  5. More intrigue in the Summer of '74!

Monday, July 1, 1974: Kira reports to Mai-Lin that she is afraid Steve was followed when they met for lunch; Kira gives Mai-Lin a letter from Henry.  Jane tells Mrs. Dawson and Howie that she hopes to go visit her mother very soon.  Joel faces Owen with the grim realities.  Peter and Diana share a joyous reunion when he asks her to stop the divorce, and she tells she already has.

Tuesday, July 2: Augusta tries to seem glad when Peter tells her and Lesley that he and Diana have reconciled.  The ballet troupe manager tells Steve he doesn’t believe him when he claims to not know where Mai-Lin is.  As Jane is packing, Howie and her present each other with gifts for their anniversary.  Diana and Peter have a romantic time.

Wednesday, July 3: Joel, being a pretty good loser, asks that Diana not tell Owen about her and Peter’s reconciliation.  Owen agrees to go through with the surgery to save his life.  Peter asks Diana why she did not tell him sooner that she stopped the divorce action; Diana senses criticism; we sense a potential problem.

Thursday, July 4: Joel admits to Jim that surgery will definitely be performed on Owen, and the surgeon’s assistant hasn't been assigned yet.  Jessie identifies handwriting on a package for Diana as being Phil’s.  Audrey tries to comfort Jim by telling him that it isn’t important if he doesn’t assist in Owen’s surgery; Jim says that he expects Joel to come to him one day and beg him to help.  Owen tells Joel he wants to live more than ever because he is in love with Diana.  Henry dreams about Mai-Lin.

Friday, July 5: Augusta finds the package to Diana, and Jessie again confirms it is from Phil; Augusta makes a note of Phil’s address and gives the package to Peter, who promises to give it to Diana.

Monday, July 8: Wallace Baxter warns Steve it is a dangerous situation if Mai-Lin has decided to defect.  Diana hopes her happiness with Peter will last.

Tuesday, July 9: A letter from Mai-Lin saddens Henry.  Joel tries to discourage Owen about his prospects with Diana.  Jim feels certain that Joel will come to him for help with the surgery; Audrey is less sure; Jim is annoyed when she tries to explain Joel might be reluctant to ask; Jim goes to Johnny’s Bar.

Wednesday, July 10: Steve tells Jessie he is worried about Baxter’s warning; Kira invites Steve to dinner.  Audrey calls Lee about her and Jim’s disagreement; Lee is reluctant to interfere.  There are flirtatious overtones between Lesley and Joel.  Peter gives Diana the package.

Thursday, July 11: Peter and Diana are utterly dismayed by the note in the package from Phil.  Lee meets Jim at the bar; Jim resents his being there.  Steve and Mai-Lin are happily reunited; Steve admits he is very worried about her and Kira’s welfare.

Friday, July 12: Howie, who is drunk, calls Lee to check that he didn’t go off with Jane; they have an awkward conversation.  Owen takes a sudden turn for the worse; Joel decides the surgery can’t wait, but the surgeon is unavailable.  Diana can’t tolerate Peter’s anger over the package from Phil and the old wall between them is once again intact.

Monday, July 15: Jane returns from her mother’s and Howie implies that he doubts she was with her mother all that time; Jane is hurt.  Joel calls Diana and tells her that Owen is worse; Joel goes to the Hobart residence looking for Jim; Audrey lets her hurt show by saying that Joel must be desperate to ask for Jim’s help; Joel apologizes and Audrey promises to get Jim; she is sure that he will agree to help in the surgery.  Augusta sees Peter is very low and suggests he come home with her.

Tuesday, July 16: Joel tells Lesley that he expects Jim to assist in Owen’s surgery; Lucille is shocked when she finds out that Audrey is going to look for Jim in a bar.  Audrey finds Jim and tells him that Joel needs him to assist in the surgery; Jim refuses.  Joel tells Owen that he himself will be performing the surgery; Joel is moved by the confidence Owen has in him.

Wednesday, July 17: Audrey returns home to find Lucille and Lee waiting; Lucille called Lee because she was worried and thought Lee would understand Jim’s problem; Audrey admits that she couldn’t convince Jim to assist in Owen’s surgery.  Jane finally decides to move out; she asks Augusta if she and the baby can spend the night; Augusta explains that any other night would be fine, but tonight Augusta is having company.  Lesley urges Augusta to not take advantage of Peter.

Thursday, July 18: Steve and Kira arrange for Henry to see Mai-Lin; they have a happy reunion.  Audrey tells Joel she couldn’t convince Jim to help in the surgery; Joel can’t believe that it’s come to him having to haul a doctor out of a bar and sober him so he can help save his brother.

Friday, July 19: As Henry kisses Mai-Lin goodnight, we see a man in the corridor watching them.  Joel goes to the bar and urges Jim to assist in Owen’s surgery; Jim ridicules Joel’s request; Joel knocks a glass out of Jim’s hand.  Diana sees Augusta and Peter leaving the hospital together.

Monday, July 22: The bartender breaks up Jim and Joel.  In her apartment, Augusta gets Peter settled and leaves to change.  Joel, in desperation, tells Jim the medical facts about Owen, and the physician in Jim responds; Jim begins to pull himself out of his haze.  When Peter sees Augusta, he is struck by her beauty and suggests that he leave; she has no intention of letting him leave.

Tuesday, July 23: Jim comes home and tells Audrey he is going to try to assist tomorrow.  Peter and Augusta dance in her apartment; after a few drinks he is light-headed and enjoying himself; he hesitates, but then gives in to his appreciation of her beauty.  Howie wants to set the record straight as Jane prepares to move out; he tells her he is determined to be in his daughter’s life no matter what.

Wednesday, July 24: Peter wakes up in Augusta’s bed and is dismayed; Augusta is delighted; she reassures him that there are no ties as far as she’s concerned.  Diana assures Owen she will be waiting for him when he comes out of the surgery.

Thursday, July 25: Owen is taken into surgery.  Kira warns Henry that if he comes to see Mai-Lin again he must be careful.  Joel feels he can’t continue with the surgery; the condition of his brother’s heart makes him sick; Jim insists he continue, and will do Joel’s thinking for him.

Friday, July 26: After the surgery, Joel is irritable, but optimistic; it looks as if the surgery was partially successful.  Diana admits to Lesley her problems with Peter.  Owen wakes and sees Diana; he is happy to be alive.  Henry visits Mai-Lin, and Kira leaves them alone; she passes a man in the corridor who puts a silencer on his gun after she passes by.

Monday, July 29: Mai-Lin admits to Henry she was never allowed to be intimate with men in China.  Peter surprises Lesley by saying he is going to stay in a hotel when Lesley suggests he take Diana home.  A man enters Kira’s apartment, and Mai-Lin is awakened by sounds in the next room.

Tuesday, July 30: Mai-Lin is shot by the intruder; Kira comes in just as the man is rushing out; Kira calls the hospital to report the shooting; Henry is immediately alerted and orders Lucille to call an ambulance.  Lesley and Joel don’t understand Peter and Diana’s relationship, nor do they understand Diana’s feelings for Owen.  Peter comes to Diana’s and finds her asleep in the nursery; he tries to write a note explaining his feelings, but changes his mind.  Henry arrives at Kira’s apartment and examines Mai-Lin, at the same time admitting his love for her.

Wednesday, July 31: The hospital is in chaos after the shooting of Mai-Lin; Lucille reluctantly gives Kira Steve’s telephone number in New York.  Lee learns that Jim’s surgery on Owen went very well.  Lesley tries to talk to Augusta about Peter and Diana; Augusta thinks it is incredible that Lesley would ask her about Peter’s personal life.  Kira reports about the shooting on the news; the man with the dragon tattoo on his hand watches the report; he receives a phone call saying “You’ve blown it twice.  Get that Bible.  Do whatever you have to do to get it.”

Tuesday, June 4: Steve discovers the story Kira did on the government being involved in Mail-Lin’s case was in the morning paper before Kira’s broadcast; Steve realizes he may have been too hasty in criticizing Kira; Jessie reluctantly tells Lesley that she is afraid that Kira might be a disruption to Steve’s life; Steve apologizes to Kira.  Joel tells Diana that Peter and Owen are unfair competition for her affections.

Wednesday, June 5: The ballet troupe manager angrily insists that Mai-Lin be released before the troupe leaves the country.  Steve scolds Howie for having gone to the press about Wallace Baxter.  Lesley tries to clear the air with Augusta, but the hostility between them isn’t easily resolved; their attempted honesty and friendship won’t work.  While sitting with Owen, Peter tells Diana he loves Martha; Diana is greatly moved, but Owen wakes up and tells her how much he needs her as Peter looks on.

Thursday, June 6: Jim has an attitude of false bravado when he tells Lee he is trying to prove that he can survive no longer being able to do surgery; he says he is giving up alcohol.  Joel tells Diana he loves her.

Thursday, June 13: Owen asks Joel his chances with Diana; Joel says he has a chance with her as much as anyone.  Diana swears Lesley to secrecy and tells her that she called off the divorce; Lesley urges her to tell Peter immediately as Augusta is trying to make inroads with Peter.  Jim learns that there has been no significant change in his hand; he automatically pours himself a drink.

Friday, June 14: Audrey comes home to find Jim defensive and falsely cheerful; he admits he almost took a drink, and insists that if he was an alcoholic he would be sneaking liquor.  Kira uses a dictation machine to record her thoughts on Mai-Lin’s case; Steve calls and asks her for her help; when Kira asks if it’s about Mai-Lin, Steve says he doesn’t want to discuss it over the phone; Kira promises that whatever he says she will keep confidential.

Monday, June 17: Lucille becomes worried when Audrey calls and tells her Jim is insisting Lucille come over for a drink.  Kira offers to find a way for Mai-Lin to stay safely in the country; she is pleased Steve trusts her.

Wednesday, June 19: Joel asks Jim for his opinion on Owen’s case.  Lesley tells Lucille she needs a nurse to assist her, but would like anyone but Augusta; Augusta overhears and is bitter; she challenges Lesley, saying that personal feeling ought to be overlooked among professionals.  Jim reports to Joel that surgery is necessary for Owen to improve; when Jim volunteers to assist in the surgery, Joel refuses, leaving Jim offended.

Thursday, June 20: Howie finds Jane looking at the want ads for an apartment.  Kira makes plans for Mai-Lin’s release; she tells Steve she can’t tell him where she is taking Mai-Lin because too many people will be asking questions.  Joel tells Diana there is a good chance Owen will never recover without surgery; Diana is very upset.

Friday, June 21: Steve tells Mai-Lin she is being released tonight.  Peter tells Lesley he has come to his senses and is going to ask Diana to stop the divorce.  As Jessie is helping Mai-Lin leave her room, Henry encounters her and kisses her goodbye; the bodyguard realizes Mai-Lin is gone.

Monday, June 24:  Jessie is bombarded with questions from reporters about Mai-Lin.  Peter tells Lesley he is going to talk to Diana on Friday.  Joel wonders if all of Owen’s work and sacrifice for him has contributed to his heart problem; he tells Lesley that telling Owen what lies ahead is the hardest thing he’s ever done.  The bodyguard angrily tells Steve he will find Mai-Lin.

Tuesday, June 25: Peter overhears Joel ask Diana to go to the lake on Friday; she accepts.  Audrey thanks Joel for including Jim in the medical consultation on his brother; Joel makes it clear that Jim is not to be in Owen’s surgery.  Joel optimistically tells Owen about the options he faces; Owen suspects he is not being told the whole truth.

Friday, June 28: Diana tells Joel that Owen distrusts Joel’s optimism on his future.  Kira reassures Steve that Mai-Lin is safe and well; Kira notices a man sitting at a nearby table and wonders if Steve was followed; we see a dragon tattoo on the man’s hand.  Peter comes to Diana’s and they play with Martha; he sits down and tells her that he has something to tell her.

Friday, May 10: Owen Stratton arrives at the hospital and Joel introduces him to Diana; when Peter learns that Diana is working overnight, he decides to go to her apartment to hold Martha; when he finally has a chance to get acquainted with her, Peter can’t resist the baby’s charms.  Jane dreams of Lee, and Howie wakes her; she feels guilty, and Howie senses her reluctance to tell him about it.

Thursday, May 16: When Audrey suggests to Jim that he assist Joel in some surgery, he angrily asks Audrey if she expects him to crawl to Joel and ask.  Alone with Steve, Mai-Lin gives Steve the Bible, with a record of his family history; when he begins reading his favorite passage, Mai-Lin finishes it from memory; Steve promises that he will find a way to help her.

Friday, May 17: Lesley urges Diana to give Peter another chance.  Henry is mortified to learn that Mai-Lin speaks and understands English.  Steve admits to Kira that there are things about Mai-Lin he doesn't want her to know; she says she wished he trusted her enough to confide in her.  Diana finds Peter’s watch and is pleased, but makes Mrs. Morgan, the babysitter, promise not to tell that she knows Peter was there.

Monday, May 20: When Joel interrupts Peter and Diana, so that Diana can go check on Owen, Peter tells Augusta he would like to go an art exhibition with her; Augusta brags to Lesley that she is going with Peter, and Lesley shares her concern over Peter and Diana; Augusta suspects there is more self interest to Lesley’s concern.  Owen is very grateful to Diana; he asks about her life and notices her wedding ring; she tells him she is going through a divorce; we get the impression Owen likes her.

Tuesday, May 21: Kira learns from Jessie that Steve was once married to Audrey Hobart.  Peter reassures Lesley that he and Augusta are just friends; Lesley urges him to tell Diana that he has bonded with Martha; Diana decides not to return Peter’s watch, as she doesn't want to reveal she knows he has been to see the baby.

Wednesday, May 22: Joel tells Jim why he didn’t need to take the stress test, that he is physically fine and expects to be around for quite awhile.  Mai-Lin asks Steve why Henry hasn’t been in to see her; Steve reminds Henry of his obligation to check Mai-Lin; when he goes in to see her, he is brisk and efficient to cover his embarrassment over her understanding things he's said to her; she is saddened by his change and tells him; Henry says he said things he shouldn’t have and she tells him she wishes he meant all he said.  Audrey, without consciously intending to, refutes Lee’s points as to why it isn’t likely that Jim will become an alcoholic.

Thursday, May 23: Mrs. Dawson asks if Jane is interested in another man; Jane denies it; Howie returns home and manages to irritate Jane.  Jim is very low and tells Audrey he doesn’t think he’ll ever perform surgery again; she tries to cheer him up, but is less than successful.

Tuesday, May 28: Jim finds Owen’s chart and is interested to learn that he had a heart attack.  Mai-Lin asks Henry questions about Sharon; he is tentative and shy.  Wallace Baxter talks to Steve and learns of the intruder who searched Mai-Lin’s room; he reminds Steve of the radicals trying to pass secrets to China; when Steve off-handedly asks Baxter’s opinion on Mai-Lin defecting, Baxter warns that it would be unfortunate to have anything happen to jeopardize American-Chinese relations.

Wednesday, May 29: Jessie admits to Steve that she answered some of Kira’s personal questions about Steve; Steve tells Jessie that it is possible that Mai-Lin may be involved in a conspiracy to pass government secrets, and that Mai-Lin may not be aware.  Jim talks to Joel about Owen and offers to look at him; Joel refuses the offer.  Peter asks Diana if he can come to the apartment to bring Martha a toy; Diana is delighted; Audrey reports to Diana that Owen is asking for her; she finds Owen disturbed, with a rapid pulse; he tells her he doesn’t feel well and that he needs her.

Thursday, May 30: Joel tells Lesley he will find time to work in the free clinic once a week; Joel jokes that Owen is lucky and that he wouldn’t mind being sick if Diana was his nurse and Lesley his doctor.  Kira tries to call Steve to warn him of a report she is going to give on her news broadcast; he is unable to take the call.  Howie joins Lee and Jane in the coffee shop and Howie notices that Jane is embarrassed and uncomfortable.  Steve remembers the time he told Kira he was starting to trust her; he turns on the television and watches her broadcast; Kira reports about Wallace Baxter having talked to Steve; angry Steve calls the studio and accuses Kira of betraying him.

@depboydo you know the exact date of the Dobsons’ tenure as HW when researching your recaps!

31 December 1973 is the first episode I see with Bridget being credited as writer alone (previously she was credited with her parents or sister Deborah Hardy). She is credited with Jerry from 23 August 1974 up to 7 July 1975, the last summary I have.

It's also obvious that the Haley Pullos legal trouble really threw a huge wrench into this whole s/l. In the beginning they just thought they needed a recast Molly for a short time while HP recovered from what they thought was just a car accident injury. When THAT all blew up, the recasting musical chairs started for Molly.

Who was recast first? Molly or Kristina? Seemed like both new actresses showed up on screen at the same time. Which also makes me wonder if the original Molly had stayed, would they have recast Kristina at all. Or was Mansi already on their radar by then and being signed to a contract first?

Are we then assuming that Brooke Anne Smith’s Molly being on crutches was fallout from HP’s assertion that she was in a “minor” accident?  Because Holiday Mia Kriegel could have continued in that capacity and acted on crutches.

I still say they did LA wrong outside of the Pullos fiasco.  I’m not saying KM isn’t a strong Kristina, I just haven’t seen anything that LA couldn’t handle, yet.

    Here is April '74!

Monday, April 1, 1974: Jane speculates that Howie may want a divorce.  Steve tells Jessie he hopes a night at the Chinese ballet will somehow shed light on the mysterious mail; Steve remembers the game he used to play with coins in China; he thinks that whoever sent the coins knew him or his family in China; an unidentified pair of hands (distinguished by a small dragon tattoo on the inside of the right thumb) unpack a woman’s suitcase, finds a tattered, old Bible, and pastes a page into it; they then return the Bible and contents of the suitcase to their original position.

Tuesday, April 2: Lucille is skeptical when Audrey tells her that she thinks that Jim will be performing surgery again soon.  Jessie tells Peter that Diana was terribly afraid that she upset him; Peter tells her to stop matchmaking.  Jane admits to Mrs. Dawson that she gets queasy when Howie touches her.  Jim reminisces with Audrey about the exhilaration of performing surgery; Audrey urges him to start with simple procedures.

Wednesday, April 3: Jim arranges to do surgery Friday.  Diana and Joel have lunch outside of the hospital.  She reacts angrily when he urges her to enjoy life more.  Jim tells Audrey his hands don’t bother him as much when he drinks.  Audrey, concerned, suggests that maybe he isn’t ready for surgery yet; he asks her not to lose faith in him now.

Thursday, April 4: Audrey tells Steve she is afraid she urged Jim into surgery before he was ready; Steve talks to Jessie and they both agree that the Hobart surgery is more important than their night out at the Chinese ballet; Steve gives the ballet tickets to Henry.  Henry invites Augusta to go with him to the ballet.  At Jessie’s suggestion, Peter and Diana meet in a patient’s room in an effort to reassure her; the patient is going to have a hysterectomy, and both Peter and Diana agree that their personal experiences with hysterectomy made no difference in their feelings for each other.

Friday, April 5: Audrey asks Lucille and Al to babysit Tommy so she can be at the hospital for Jim’s surgery.  The Dawson’s have dinner; Mrs. Dawson urges Howie to be gentle with Jane; when Mrs. Dawson retires, Howie tries to become amorous with Jane; Jane admits that when he comes near her she gets queasy; Howie tells her he’ll be more than happy to stay away from her.   At the ballet, Henry and Augusta are seated; the dancers come down the aisles; one of the dancers, Mai-Lin, bows and slips a note to Henry; he reads it and it says “Dr. Steven Hardy - please help me.”

Monday, April 8: Peter is in high spirits, while Lesley is low; they decide to go to dinner; at the last minute, Lesley changes her mind.  Audrey is angry when Lucille asks if she is worried about Jim’s surgery because he has been drinking.; Steve offers Jim his assistance; Jim is defensive; Audrey asks about Jim and Steve says he is tense; Audrey insists that she will wait at the hospital until the surgery is over.  At the theater, Mai-Lin faints in front of Henry.

Tuesday, April 9: Peter is pleased with the results of the meeting he had in the patient’s room.  Henry starts emergency first aid on Mai-Lin; he asks Augusta to get his medical bag and call Steve; he takes Mai-Lin to the lobby as the theater manager tries to calm the audience.  Peter goes to Diana’s apartment, hopeful that they might have reached an understanding; when she questions him, she realizes that his only commitment to Martha is a feeling of responsibility; hurt, she asks him to leave.  A nurse reports to Steve that things are going well in Jim’s surgery; Steve gets the call from Augusta, who tells him about the note and the ballerina who fainted; he tells her he will send an ambulance right away.

Wednesday, April 10: Al finds Jim’s large liquor supply and is impressed; Lucille frets about Audrey and decides to go wait with her at the hospital.  In surgery, Jim is irritable, he finally asks Boswell to relieve so he can rest his hand.  Henry and the ballet troupe manager argue; Henry wants Mai-Lin taken to the hospital, the manager doesn’t want her to go; finally, after Henry asks if he is willing to take responsibility for her having a subdural hematoma, the manager agrees to let her go - - with a bodyguard.

Thursday, April 11: In the back of the ambulance, with the bodyguard watching, Henry tries to reassure Mai-Lin.  Steve is frustrated when he tries to examine Mai-Lin under the watchful eye of the bodyguard; Henry shows Steve the note; Kira tries questioning Steve about the dancer.  Peter admits to Augusta that he is feeling low after seeing Diana; Augusta tries to cheer him, without success.  Steve gets a call from the surgical nurse who tells him that Jim is having problems; Steve calls Joel and asks that he come to the hospital in case Jim can’t finish the procedure.

Friday, April 12: Steve points out to Jessie that the handwriting on the note is similar to that on the envelopes he received.  Steve tells Joel to scrub and go into surgery with Jim.  Howie tells Jane that their marriage isn’t going to work; Jane is upset; she tells him that he is selfish.  Jim is sweating, angry and scared; Joel enters and Jim is outraged; he lets Joel take over, angry and embarrassed.

Monday, April 15: When Augusta asks Peter for change to take the bus home, he offers to drive her.  Jim, angry and defensive, waits for Joel outside surgery; Jim is annoyed to learn that Steve sent Joel in in the middle of the operation; he is irked that Audrey is there; he tries to convince them that he could have finished without Joel; Audrey urges him to come home, but he refuses; he has a few things he wants to say to Joel.  Augusta invites Peter in and she starts to make him feel relaxed.

Tuesday, April 16: Audrey calls Lee because she is afraid of what the disappointment may do to Jim; Lee advises her not to anticipate problems; Joel and Jim argue; Jim accuses Joel of wanting to show Jim up, while Joel accuses Jim of thinking of himself more than the patient.  Kira stops to see her mother after Steve refuses to see her; it is apparent that Amy doesn’t approve of the way Kira lives.  Jim comes home inebriated; he says he feels as if he let Audrey down.

Wednesday, April 17: Steve won’t talk to reporters about the Chinese dancer; Jessie tells him that she has arranged for privately run tests on Mai-Lin; Kira tries to get more information out of Steve; she wheedles and charms, but Steve admits nothing; he agrees that if there were more, he wouldn’t tell her.  Audrey tells Lee she doesn’t know how to cope with Jim.

Thursday, April 18: Diana tells Lesley that things are no better for Peter and her; she has gotten her hopes up for the last time.  Jane and Lee have lunch.  Howie watches himself on television, after having held a press conference on the Chinese dancer case; he is pleased; Jane is less than enthusiastic, and it irritates him.  Steve is furious when he watches Kira’s newscast and hears her say that Dr. Hardy admits there may be more to the case than what has officially been released to the public.

Friday, April 19: Steve calls Kira because he is angry over her news broadcast; Kira is pleased that Steve is thinking about her.  Henry goes to see Mai-Lin and tries to make her smile.  Joel annoys Jim by telling him that he thought Jim did a good job in the part of the surgery he was able to perform; later, Jim talks about quitting; Audrey boosts his spirits and he promises he won’t go off and get drunk; to celebrate his newest resolution, he pours a drink; to stop him, Audrey throws herself at him and begs him to take her; he succumbs to her invitation.

Monday, April 22: Lesley is annoyed when she witnesses Augusta flirting with Peter.  Mai-Lin’s tests reveal no physical problems.  Lesley recalls how Augusta stole her husband from her; she admits to Jessie that she thinks Augusta is ruthless.  Steve is reviewing the envelopes, the coins, and the note from Mai-Lin, then he gets an idea; he and Jessie go to Mai-Lin’s room where he plays the game he learned as a child with Mai-Lin.

Tuesday, April 23: Audrey is worried when Jim shows her a letter he has written to the hospital board about Joel; she advises him to show it to Steve.  The manager of the Chinese dance troupe insists Mai-Lin be released from the hospital; when he and Steve go to visit Mai-Lin, Steve realizes that the girl is disturbed by the manager’s presence; the troupe manager tells Steve he is going to have his doctor check Mai-Lin; Henry tries to reassure her.  Jim and Steve argue over the letter; Jim gets angry when Steve suggests it is unwise to send it; Jim says that both Joel and Steve are against him, that Joel wants his job, and Steve wants his wife.

Wednesday, April 24: Jane tells Mrs. Dawson that she is considering moving out of the apartment.  Augusta finds Peter responsive to her flirting; Jessie observes; Peter tells Jessie that Augusta is merely a distraction from the breakup of his marriage.  Jim’s uncertainty that he could have finished the surgery himself makes him angry.

Thursday, April 25: Mrs. Dawson meets Howie and tells her about Jane wanting to move out; Jane and Lee have lunch; she admits that Howie and her are not getting along and begins to cry.  Kira finds Steve hostile; she urges him not to hold a grudge over the newscast.

Friday, April 26: Steve tells Henry that the lab tests on Mai-Lin indicate no physical problem.  Joel invites Diana out for a date and she turns him down.  Jim admits to Audrey that Steve agrees with her that he shouldn’t send the letter.  Joel surprises Diana with dinner at her apartment; he tells her about his brother, Owen.

Monday, April 29: Lesley tells Jessie she is going to set up a free clinic.  Lucille is in a dither because she has to leave suddenly to take care of her cousin’s sick child.  Lesley warns Augusta not to interfere with the Taylor marriage; Augusta tells her she would prefer Lesley allow her to run her own life.

Tuesday, April 30: Audrey admits to Lee that she is worried about the letter Jim has written about Joel.  Steve, the troupe manager, and the troupe doctor go to Mai-Lin’s room; after examining her, the doctor suggests that she should be released in his care; Steve refuses.  Jim senses Audrey’s disapproval over both his drinking and of the letter he wrote; he tells her he needs her support now more than ever.

Monday, February 18: Audrey admits to Lucille that Joel Stratton has become a threat to Jim by trying to replace the assistant surgeon.  Florence explains to Peter that she is more optimistic since Gordon admitted the affair and that it’s over, and she feels this is a new honesty in their marriage.  Diana tells Lee to proceed with the divorce.  Audrey is indignant when Lee asks if she is worried Jim will go off the wagon.  Audrey appeals to Steve to protect Jim from Stratton’s threat; Steve assures Audrey that the final decision on the cardiac team is Jim’s; Steve feels that Audrey must love Jim deeply to make this appeal to him.

Tuesday, February 19: Diana tells Peter she’s instructed Lee to go ahead with the divorce; Pete says he will move his clothes out tonight.  Lesley checks Florence, who confesses that her husband’s honest admission has given her new hope; Gordon comes to visit Lesley, who refuses to go into detail about their child; she tells them the future is not for them, and that he needs to protect Florence who is threatened with surgery if she doesn’t improve.  Peter packs; Diana sees him and realizes this is the end of something wonderful.

Friday, October 5: Jane tells Howie how badly she feels for Diana; Howie makes Jane agree that they will have no more children until they have jointly decided to.  Phil pressures Diana, who finally admits the baby is his; Peter finds her hysterical and she refuses to have the surgery.

Monday, October 8: Diana’s doctor tells Peter he cannot be responsible if Diana does not have the surgery; Diana tells Lesley that she told Phil he is the father of her child and that she refused the hysterectomy because having Peter’s child will be the only way she can make it up to him; Peter storms into Phil’s office, accusing Phil of upsetting Diana to the point of refusing the surgery; Phil tells Peter he is the baby’s father, but Peter refuses to believe it.

The last listing of Kent (Mark Hamill) in the cast is 30 April 1973, the summary for that episode says that Jessie returns home to learn from Kent that Carol and Teddy eloped.  No mention is made of what became of Kent in the summaries after that date.
