  1. WOW at these Met Ball looks.

Does anyone know if Dame Joan attended?

I'm over the multiple social media accounts reviewing the outfits, as if they have any perspective on fashion beyond perusing the latest Zara collection.  And if I hear one more critique about people not following the theme (it is not the runway of Rupaul's Drag Race, there are no rules or prizes for staying on theme) or the influx of influencers (is anyone actually missing Nan Kempner and Nancy Kissinger?) I am going to scream.  Tables were bought by large tech companies, who then invite young people to attend, and raise money so that the Met remains a low cost, privately funded option, for the citizens of New York to be inspired by art.  The Gala is not even their biggest fund raiser of the year, and the only reason most people have heard of it is because of pop culture.

Ben Platt's executive producer dad couldn't buy any worse set of reviews

‘Dear Evan Hansen’ adaptation is ‘a total misfire,’ ‘one of the worst movie-musicals ever made,’ critics say

I just read the Noah Galvin article in Vulture, and that is a funny case of self destructive behavior.  The editorial decision to allow it to be a Q&A, just having him slowly dig his own grave was hysterical.  Those were the rantings of a young guy, who thought he would be on a network show forever, and was maybe a little hungover.  His statement in response to the article that links at the end screams of a PR agency scrambling for any scrap of support that they could buy that kid.

Both Noah and Ben strike me as the kind of guys who were stars in their high school musicals, crave the atmosphere of a stage production, and are secretly despised by their supporting cast.  It is the most cringe inducing, douche chill effecting, stomach churning feeling.  Which is really a shame because it is not as if there are that many out gay stars, or gay themed TV shows on air.  So, they make it hard to celebrate their own achievements.

@slick jonesyou've created an amazing resource based on your postings, New members might not appreciate it now, but I believe that you've curated information on your soap hoppers thread that could be used as an IMDB resource for soap fans.  I apologize if you feel talked down to.  I may be too much of an optimist but I believe that the community will progress and learn to exist together.

I thought about it over night and I think we are all better served by having more participants, even if the price to pay is rehashing old content.

  7. Medium's "Soap Twitter" story reads like a NY Times culture article, all about a habit engaged by very few people being described as if it was a larger movement that reflects the post-lockdown COVID era (read last week's everyone's skateboarding in Manhattan article for reference). https://mishkahashtag8.medium.com/the-soaptwitter-explosion-waiting-to-happen-511bf189e29c

That being said, I am fascinated by "Bama Rush Week" on Tiktok...

It's ironic that every time I think actors/politicians/influencers are being silly when they say they're effected by the responses of strangers on Twitter, I recall that the first place I check on these boards are the notifications to see if anyone has responded to my opinions.  It is hard to escape the need to be acknowledged and validated.

I'm an Explorer as of today, which feels like being a Cub Scout in the world of soap fandom.  I'm a couple of popsicle stick craft projects and a diorama away from Apprentice Enthusiast  ;)

  9. I'm addicted to achievement so the fact that my status is set at "apprentice" when I've posted 1,564 times since 2013 is driving me nuts.  If you hear someone screaming, "I used to be a contract player.." it's me.

@ErrolThanks for your reply and please note that I am grateful for the community that you've curated.  The status thing does not divert from the entertainment I get from reading so many people's fascinating discourse on the daytime genre.

  10. I started watching season six of A Different World, @j swift. I'm only three episodes in (since my computer was being slow). The quintet of underclassmen (and Jenifer Lewis) are the most interesting people at the moment.

Give me some context for season 6, is this when Jada Pinkett (now Smith) started?  Whitley is living in the room off of the lobby and Aretha Franklin is doing the theme song?  Also, where is it streaming?
