I remember. How he won the primary, I don't know. By the time I was paying attention he was running against Dr. Oz. I can't be sorry he won against Oz, but how is he the best the Dems could do I cannot understand.

Never underestimate the rampant ignorance and stupidity of the average American voter.

Don't forget, so many scoffed in 2016, certain that Conald Dump had no shot. We see how that shook out!

I never will again after Trump, which is why I think he could be the nominee again. God forbid it. This is the first time I've allowed myself to acknowledge we could go through that hell again.

Joe has his (MANY) gaffes, but I'll take well-meaning mistakes over anything from 2017-2021! (Not picking on you, @Juliajms! But after...THAT, anything else looks benign to me!)

Oh, I could not agree more!! Joe has a tendency to accidentally step in [!@#$%^&*]. He's not trying to hurt people.

The former guy chose to roll in it like a pig and enjoyed every second of it. He loved hurting people.  It's a completely different thing. I can't believe that despicable man still roams free among us. The internet keeps telling us that fast food kills, but I'm still waiting.

Gay and trans people, although we won't be alone...

(not that this has anything to do with your post, but there's a very noticeable movement on social media of late by gay and trans right-wingers to blame the lgbt community for what is happening to them and saying if only they had known their place, everything would be fine - similar to when this was astroturfing was done in 2003 and 2004 around the time of a nationwide hate and bashing campaign against gay people, that tells you something very bad is going to be happening soon, likely beyond just legislation)

After Joe Biden was elected for just a few months I felt like we (liberals) could feel a sense of relief. That was very short lived. Now fewer horrible things are happening on the federal level, but the states are running amok. I thank god I left Florida when I did, even Nebraska isn't as crazy. The right is doing an excellent job of destroying public schools.

Yes!!!! See what a difference it makes when people we care about are in danger. I felt the fear when I saw Mac discover Heather and Esme, knowing Ryan wasn't far behind. And I gasped at the end seeing Ava and Felicia face to face with him. Meanwhile, Dante and Sam found Maggie and got the Esme parent reveal. Stories exploding all over the place...love to see it!!

And the wedding...wow. It's been a minute since we had so many people (outside of Britt's party) AND Extras in one room. And I loved each and every bit and break was played to the hilt in my viewing from last Friday on. Brook Kerr know she looking good (come get your girl @Juliajms! ;) ) in her wedding dress and she has been acting her butt off. Poor Trina, not knowing what would happen by going to see Stella, but glad Spencer was with her.

And No, I have no problem with Obrecht being willing to kill for Liz. Sorry. However, it now makes me wonder if she is the person mention in the spoiler thread as a new adversary of sorts to one of our beloved vets.

Yes!! She looked like a million bucks in that wedding dress. Just perfect.  The way she was crying during the ceremony like she felt she was losing Curtis at the very moment they were getting married. The other fashion for the wedding was pretty good given today's budgets. Terry looked so good in that red and purple dress, it really suited her coloring.

I didn't like Ava's purple dress, but I have to say Maura west has aged into being an beautiful classic soap actress. She has that sophisticated look that actresses had on soaps like Ryan's Hope.

They found the perfect Nic. He just can't be dead. I'm a week behind, but Dr. Holt is clearly up to something.

More than 23,000 have been counted as dead, so far.  Over 100,000 homeless in freezing temperatures.  Again, by the time you read this post, the info will be out of date.  So sad.

Now we are at 40,000 dead. This is a horrible human tragedy. I feel so bad for everyone caught up in this, but the little kids found after being in the rubble for three or four days? It's a miracle they survived that kind of hell.

I don’t intend to ever watch that video. It has become a gruesome parade of abuse and vicious violence to the death of black bodies, a digital “Strange Fruit” that America appears to feast on with absolutely no real change for the better, just more snuff videos. If anything, it is desensitizing America to black pain and Black Death. And people making the color of the police officers an issue, like it’s some big difference- it makes absolutely zero difference when the training itself promotes the dehumanizing of black people who are stopped by the police.

I just do not see the purpose of watching people being killed on camera, especially when it will change nothing. Sadly, George Floyd’s murder didn’t offer a sustained change in the system, mainly many platitudes and performative displays.

Can someone please explain how watching this video will change anything? I am genuinely asking.

Maybe, as a Black person, I am not the intended audience?

I don't either. Watching a man beg for his mother while he's beaten to death isn't going to do my mental health any favors. As you say, it's not going to change anything. I've seen people murdered on video twice and I never intend to see it again.  I do hope we can change policing in this country, but I'm not holding my breath.

Damn, how horrifying. Glad no one else was injured/killed.  :( Unfortunately, this is the world we are left with: The OK Corral, at:

    Chuch

    The supermarket

    Department store

    Movies

    And so on...

    It's depressing. And scary.

I find the murderers targeting people at their houses of worship the absolute worst. If there is a good argument for the death penalty Dylann Roof is it. If we aren't going to serve it up to that kind of monster, lets just get rid of it once and for all.

Oh honey. I'm so sorry. I'm glad you and yours are safe.

Thank you Marceline. Rachel is always trying to get me to take her there. She thinks she's a mini fashionista. We are incredibly lucky.

It’s a good thing no one was injured, physically anyway.

Whenever I venture into my local Walgreens. I have to try to forget the parking lot shootout that happened over the summer.

    What a world.

    In other news,

Day 1 of Black History Month and the NYT has an article about how Black Americans are much more likely to be audited by the I.R.S. than other groups, giving credence to complaints that some members of my family have been making for years.

Damn. It has become so normalized, but as you said in the other thread, with all these ridiculous gun laws we have it's not so surprising.

I'm so sorry to hear that.

Thank you Carl. I'm not even shocked. It's just a day in the life of our nation.

  9. In other news there was an active shooter today at my neighborhood Target. A place my daughter is constantly begging me to take her. He shot off a few rounds before the police arrived and killed him. Luckily no one else was harmed.

    What is happening in California?!

Half Moon Bay: Seven dead in another California mass shooting

Three mass shootings in a just over a week.

I suppose the Half Moon Bay incident was a copy cat given the demographics of the shooters. I don't have cable, so I haven't heard the talking heads explanation. The most disturbing part to me is that the killers were seniors. It tends to be younger men who commit this type of crime. What is the motive?

Have you seen this 2 part Frontline special? It was excellent in how thoroughly it presents how “Big Oil” essentially gaslit (pun intended) the public, using the paid research of scientists, academics and researchers. Some politicians also used this research to promote their political agendas.

I am not sure whether PBS has these episodes behind the paywall (they have an annoying habit of doing this now, although educational videos tend to have a longer grace period for viewing) but it is definitely worth checking out.

    https://www.pbs.org/video/the-power-of-big-oil-part-one-denial-redxh6/

I hadn't seen it, but PBS just let me watch it. I knew a lot of what was in it, but not the details. I should have known the Koch brothers were knee deep in these crimes against humanity. I agree 100% that the oil companies were (and are) run by psychopathic liars. I just think the politicians who went along are much worse and many people have known the truth for decades. Our leaders had academic and government studies (as mentioned in the frontline report) that showed that global warming is real. They chose to sell out.

Its reminiscent of the CEO's of cigarette companies standing in front of Congress swearing their products don't cause cancer. They gave politicians just enough cover and money to prolong the status quo, but most educated people knew they were lying. Same with all the junk food/beverage companies. They have their scientists actively trying to create ultra processed food that the human brain craves, while pretending they aren't selling us poison. Of course, they also lobby against sugar taxes.

Speaking about crimes against humanity have you seen the documentaries about what Texico/Chevron did in Ecuador? 18 billion gallons of toxic water dumped on tribal lands in the rain forest. 1,000 open toxic oil pits. It happened in the 70's and it's still in the courts. I doubt the people who were poisoned will ever see justice. Everyone involved should have spent their lives imprisoned.

  12. What are Jamie Raskin and Axios talking about?? I sure hope that subcommittee meeting was held a decade ago. It's been known for years that Exxon predicted climate change in the 70's. So what really? Are we expecting corporate America to regulate itself?  Any politician acting that naive is a damn liar.

The scandal, if there is one, is that the governments of the world have known about climate change for decades and have not responded appropriately. The force that could have slowed down climate change is the U.S government.

An article about Exxon for 2015 and I don't even know if this is he first one.
