I honestly don't think any of that is going to matter. Biden, for all of his flaws, represents stability and sanity after three years of chaos and criminality. This time six months ago I thought Biden was a non-starter too but the focus groups and polling changed my mind.

And as much as some hate the idea of Warren or Harris as VP, the fact is that Biden is old enough where he could easily die in office or just choose to be a one-term president so his running mate will be vitally important. So instead of framing it as playing second fiddle I think of it as positioning for the future.

Exactly! I had this same thought.  I wish Harris had just evaded the whole issue with a standard "I'm in the race to win not thinking about being VP" for the reasons you stated.  No need to make it more personal, when being VP gives you a chance to get name recognition and build up a donor base for the future.

I'd still vote for him over Trump.  Yes, indeed, living under the Trump Administration has reduced me to this.

That's not even a close call.  He's certainly not my first (Harris) or even second (Warren) choice in the primary, but I wouldn't even have to think twice about voting for him in the general.

It's one thing to ban abortions, but when we talk about sending people to prison, including the mother, we've gone entirely too far.

But let's be honest, they can't ban abortion. They can ban abortion for poor women and girls. The rich and middle class will just fly to California, Toronto or Paris. Unless of course, this really does become Gilead and they don't let women leave.

It's sick to try to force a women to have her rapist child.  It's even sicker when the pregnant person is a child herself.  The people doing this are mostly men and have no idea (or don't GAF) about the emotional and physical toll pregnancy takes on some women. It's nothing any trauma victim should be forced to endure and that goes double for a child victim.

Just this conversation has shown how far they've moved the window though. Now we aren't talking about the fact that women have a constitutional right to abortion.  We're talking about if a woman even has a right to ownership of her body in cases where a man has violated it.  We're talking about whether the state or parents/physicians know best when a 10 year old rape victim turns up pregnant.

    TLDR: Things are f*cked up

Those same farmers will be voting for him again. They can kiss my ass.

Anyone who votes for him again can go straight to hell.

I agree that he conned some people on the economic front.  There are a lot of very unsophisticated and under educated people out there.  I know because I grew up with them. He couldn't have done that if those people weren't willing to overlook the way he made fun of disabled people, the fact that he assaulted many women and the fact that he's an outright racist. To those that have changed their minds, I welcome their vote.  I'll take any help there is to over throw this would be dictator.

Let's say Buttigieg makes it all the way to the WH.  What would we call his husband?  "First Gent"?

Has a ring to it, although I'm hoping that title goes to Harris or Warren's husband.

I could say so much (like how Trump is doing all he can to take us to war with Iran and yet half the country is numbed by him and the other half blindly support him, so no one even really cares anymore) but instead I will just say how disgusted I am that Jim Comey, after ruining our future for self-preservation, gets a [!@#$%^&*] town hall on CNN.

This man is the epitome of how privilege means zero consequences. And of why I never, ever, ever go near cable news.

Yeah, I just saw a story about a possible sabotage of ships by Iran.  Here we are with the Keystone Kops in charge when we need real diplomats and knowledgeable people trying to cool this situation down. How many failed wars do we have to have in the Middle East before the lesson is learned? Thousands of innocents have died and I have no idea what was gained from any of it.

I mostly associate Castro and his brother with the hope that someday we will win anything in Texas, which I don't see coming anytime soon.

I haven't followed Yang much but his supporters give me Bernie bro vibes.

Thank you for correcting my spelling on Yang.  Thank God I didn't write that on twitter.

  7. I keep forgetting that Julian Castro is running, even though I know at one point he was kind of a Democratic party darling. His day may come down the road, I suppose. Once you get past him on the list I pretty much don't know the rest of the field at all, except Yang and De Blasio. Yang is a little before his time too. I think he's right about automation, but those ideas won't become mainstream until we are closer to disaster.  Assuming Trump doesn't end all our troubles by getting us nuked first, of course.

as I do my Dr. Evil....."1 BIIIIIIIIILION DOLLARS".

🤣 Some days I really wonder how this is real life.  How many fools out there admired this guy just because he was rich. Most of us here were skeptical, but this just takes the cake. Americans really have to stop worshiping rich people in general, but when the person ends up being an absolute fake it's too much.

Some folks need to go to jail because this is totally ridiculous.

Damn right. There are a lot of people who need to go to jail. We've just been putting the wrong people in them (low level drug offenders).

A teenager by the name of Kalief Browder was sent to Rikers Island on suspicion of stealing a backpack. Browder languished for nearly three years without being formally charged.  Less than two years after his release, Browder committed suicide.

I just looked up his case.  He was only 16 and put in solitary.  Our system is really sick. His mother died while trying to change it.

Good for her. Now this is social media done right.

In less happy news, the soulless piece of phlegm and his fellow cretins are back allegedly whipping up false sexual assault allegations, this time against Pete Buttigieg.

Monstrous. And they always get away with it. Luck doesn't last forever.

Yes. This was a truly evil thing to do.  Even at this point when nothing should shock any of us, I find this level of dirty dealing surprising. It's the kind of thing that could get someone sent to prison or even killed, but these psychopaths don't care.

  12. ^ That is awful. Yesterday was one of the four days that Yizkor is said. Basically a memorial day where people pray for their dead. I happened to be volunteering at the old age home helping with their service. It was terribly sad. One women lost two husbands and her only child, she was just weeping as the names were read.  Another had a 10 year old granddaughter who passed.  She was fine and then she just fell over from a seizure.

To think while these octogenarians were crying for their dead some monster decided he had to kill more is just unreal.  This is just the reality all of us live with now to some extent. It's worst for religious and racial minorities, but any of us can be killed just because it's Tuesday and some nut with a gun decides he's going to use it. I don't have the first idea how to stop these white men from being radicalized online and I don't think anyone else does either.

    That's for damn sure.

I think we're at the point where many just don't even care. It's become so rote. What annoys me most of this group are the people who love to talk about anti-Semitism yet only to score points. Some on the far right were jumping up and down with glee to make the shooting all about AOC. You could tell how happy they were.

I think the human mind isn't really good at processing this much tragedy.  Some people are getting hardened to it, but I won't begrudge them that coping skill.  Other people are depressed and anxious like we talked about a couple of weeks ago. That doesn't help anyone,  but I think it can be a normal reaction to the instability and watching other people suffer.

It really is sort of odd to watch both left and right throw stones over antisemitism. The real problem is it's becoming normalized across the spectrum. It's a virus that spreads and I will always believe that Trump let it loose this time around.

Islamophobia will go hand in hand with that, of course. Some vet running into a group of people because he *thought* they were Muslims? Heaven help us all get through this insanity.

  14. I'm reading The Sun Does Shine by Anthony Ray Hinton. I just can't get it off my mind. How do you get over having 30 years of your life stolen?  What a case of justice failing over and over again until the very end.

I'm not very sympathetic to violent criminals, but I'm starting to think that not even the worst deserve to be on death row.  I used to only be against the death penalty because there is too much bias in the system, but this made me see that it's just too cruel to make people hear and smell death for years before their date. Maybe it just has to be enough to keep murderers in prison for life.
