  1. A few pages back somebody posted a link to a site with lots of Y&R stuff from the 70s and I now have some of those DVDs and have begun watching this. As for the full episodes, it's mostly the 70s episodes that have popped up online, although I think one was new to me. Mostly it's stuff dealing with Jennifer Brooks breast cancer, but you also have some Foster stuff in there. I know somewhere in the collection there is an episode of Y&R with Brian Kerwin as Greg Foster, but I haven't watched that yet. I DID watch the first batch of Lorie edits and it was glorious! It goes without saying that Jaime Lyn Bauer doesn't get enough credit for getting Y&R off the ground. I would even say she was probably more important than Jill or Katherine at this point. She has such gravitas and you see why they would write the entire family off when she left. She held up every actor she had scenes with and many of them were good actors. My favorite scene so far was seeing Mark break it off with Lorie because she is his sister.

Once I figure out how to post this stuff I will! I'm also still watching the Y&R uploads in this thread and am watching the episodes where Nina has shot David and Cricket is trying to prove he's faking his paralysis. You also have a VERY young Victoria home from boarding school learning about Ruthless and hating Ashley. I had no idea Heather Tom could be so young. It's so weird seeing her this way lol. She is still such a powerhouse even at a young age. I also like that they brought her on with such a strong focus on her relationship with Victor.

I was the one who posted that link. Thanks for the reply. I tried talking to the guy who runs that site about getting the Y&R stuff, but never heard back. I didn't have anything to trade that he didn't already have.

Does the Foster/Brooks material have any of Nikki and Greg's marriage ?

  2. Yeah, I really like GR and the Kevin character as originally written was compelling, but his redemption was handled badly. The scenes of him getting beat up in jail were some of the most beautiful directing that Y&R has ever done, but that should have been just the start. A bunch of scenes of people saying they feel sorry for Kevin, and Kevin whining about how he does not want to be in a jail cell (but yet continually committing major and minor crimes) didn't get the job done. I still think they should make him evil again.

As far Adam, I wouldn't even know where to begin. They should have never written all of that garbage to begin with. The original storyline of CE's Adam trying to find his place in the company was great.

Yeah the Christine getting engaged to Michael was one of those things I thought Y&R would never do. I never thought Christine would end up engaged to her rapist (well, near rapist)... but then they had Paul rape her also and then them getting married... really ridiculous. Especially now that I've just watched some of the 80s episodes that YRfan23 uploaded and saw what Christine had to deal with from Derek.

I think it's crazy how many times they have had Christine/Cricket raped, stalked, sexually harassed.

  3. I forgot to ask when I posted the Tom Selleck clip, I keep seeing on web sites that he reprised his role of Jed Andrews in 2005. I don't recall that at all. Then again, I stopped being a loyal Y&R viewer in 2000 after Bill Bell was no longer calling shots.

  4. I think Bill Bell was all set to fire Peter Bergman before Jeanne Cooper intervened. IIRC, she told Bell that if one had to leave, then both had to leave. Or something like that.

That was so cool of Jeanne. Bill Bell always catered to Braeden to keep him happy and on the show.

  5. I was 14 at the time of the Y&R brawl and remember reading that Bill Bell was going to fire them both if they didn't cool it. In truth, I say that Bell would of gotten rid of Bergmen before he would " HIS PET" Braeden.

Braeden was a big fan of Terry Lester.

  6. I thought Terry Lester was the BEST Jack. I wish he hadn't left the show. Peter Bergman said in an interview that Eric Braeden was a big fan of Terry's when he took over the role and let him know it. I guess that explains that backstage brawl and their current working relationship......LOL

Peter always say's his favorite scene is when Victor collapsed and he leaves him to die and as he walks out of the scene he kicks his hand.

  7. I remember a recent interview with Beth Maitland and she said people were always asking why she wasn't on Y&R on a regular basis and she said it was not of her own doing, but they ran out of material for the character.

She said she is thrilled when she gets to work on the show.

  8. I think the show missed the boat when they killed of Colleen. They should have paired her with Lauren's son Scottie and the Lauren/Tracy feud could live on.

So many missed opportunities this show flushed down the toilet by hack writers and EP.

  9. About 8 and a half minutes of Shawn Stevens singing in his role as Zach Anders. The version of the Steve/Liza song is very very pretty. Sherry Mathis features a fair amount in this too.

He has a great voice and I liked the songs. According to his filmography he was on Search 1980-81 as Zach then moved to Days 1981-1983 as Oliver.

Shawn must be wanting to work again because he is uploading his early work and his imdb page has been updated with new current photos of him.

  10. I ran across this christian soap on youtube and it's really good. It looks like it could have been an ABC or NBC produced soap. When it first aired (1981-84) I missed it since I was without cable till 1985.

Phanta773 looks like they have uploaded the entire or almost entire series in excellent quality.

  11. Deborah came in around Oct 1986, Brenda was out sick (or re-negotiating) Deborah was on a few days and Brenda returned until June 1987 when Jess took over.

Deborah was on when Jill was trying to get Jack re-employed at Jabot. At least I think that was the story. Jill had to get as much support from the Jabot board to have Jack re-instated, she reunited Jack and John and hoped this would make Jack get on board with her ideas for a men's line at Jabot.

Thanks for the info. I was probably in school and missed her stepping in. I remember being shocked when I saw Jess as the new Jill.

I wonder if Deborah Adair will ever return to soaps. I know she retired in the mid 90's to raise her kids, but they are probably now grown.

  12. One thing that I read that surprised me was Deborah Adair stepped back into the role of Jill in 1987 prior to Jess taking over the role. I must have missed those episodes since I remember when Jess first appeared.

Deborah said in an interview she did it as a favor to Bill Bell and at that point didn't want to come back to daytime. She said she had fun and made some new friends.

    Does anyone remember this ?

  13. Reading through old summaries, I discovered that shortly after arriving in GC, Victor meet Casey and was attracted to her.Of course, that went nowhere as Bill Bell was playing around with new characters and relationships. By the time Victor met Nikki, Casey had left town.

I wonder if that connection was referred to by Victor when he and Nikki got involved or Victor didn't realize who Casey was eg Nikki referred to 'my sister'. Was the connection mentioned when Casey and Victor met again?

Also, was Suzanne given an official good bye or was it assumed she left town after failing to win over Derek?

When Casey came back to town for Nikki's wedding to Victor, Nikki goes introduce to them. Victor say's Dr. Casey Reed and she says Victor Newman so this is your fiance, and Nikki says you two know each other and they laugh and Victor say's that he and Casey met when Julia had to be in the hospital a few years ago.

I seem to recall that Casey and Brock got Julia a job in the hospital gift shop to get her away from the ranch and Victor put the kabosh on it. Victor hated Brock. There was also some stuff about Victor teaching Julia how to use a gun after a break in. I think they were going to have Victor set Brock up to go to the ranch and Julia thinking it was a prowler to shoot him by accident.

I wonder if Brock would have been the one in the basement at some point if he hadn't left the show around that time ? They brought the Michael Scott character in pretty quickly.

  14. Yes. She said in 2002 that she'd been asked to return. I'm not sure why it didn't happen.

That sounds interesting. I wonder what they had in mind with bringing back that character ?

I know Laurie returned briefly around that time for that sucky storyline that pretty much threw her under the bus and had her groveling at Victor's feet.

If the writers had any freaking sense they should introduce the adult Brooks Prentiss or Jennifer Foster.

  15. Here's a recent pic (2012) of Victoria Mallory (Leslie Brooks)

She has gotten older of course, but still looks recognizable. A lot of people never warmed up to her as Leslie and preferred Janice Lynde in the role. Here is Janice Lynde Today

  16. Yup, both she and Eric Braeden were in (separate) episodes of Charlie's Angels. Melody's character didn't fare too well...

Yes, I remember seeing them both on Charlie's Angels.

Dennis Cole who played the second Lance Prentiss on Y&R was married to Jaclyn Smith at the time appeared in several episodes. Ton Ligon who played Lucas Prentiss appeared in an episode with Dirk Benedict.

I always wondered why Bill Bell wrote Dennis Cole out. I remember reading a quote from Victoria Mallory who played Leslie saying she was shocked and he was given little notice. He and Jaclyn divorced around that time as well. I know he had problems with alcohol in real life and wonder if it affected his job at Y&R.

  17. This isn't an article, but I own the complete series DVD box set of Barney Miller, which as a bonus includes the first season of the spinoff series Fish. So I was watching the Fish season and in one of the episodes, I noticed a pretty blond who was hanging around Phil and Bernice Fish's foster kids. I knew she looked and sounded very familiar but I just couldn't place her. Then when the credits rolled around, I noticed that the blond girl's real name was Melody Thomas.

Melody started off as a child actress and played in several old shows/films back then. She joined Y&R in February 1979.
