I've never cared for Davis Cup.  I wish they'd get rid of it completely.

Oh no, it used to be fun!  I admit that it's not always fun or memorable but I've enjoyed the finals for the past few years.

I'm just concerned with Piqué wanting to transform it into some FIFA/World Cup also-ran.  And FIFA (and by extension, The World Cup) has had some major problems with transparency and corruption.

  2. This sounds like a recipe for World Cup-style corruption.

I always thought that too...her and VR would be electrifying together!

So interesting that you mentioned that because while I watched the OLTL 2.0 a few years ago, I couldn't help but wonder what it would've been like if the show had brought in a family for Jeffrey King (Corbin Bleu) and I though of Ellen Holly reprising her role as his grandmother, with Victoria Rowell, playing the mother.

I invented an entire storyline in my head and honestly, I've only seen clips and read about EH's character on OLTL.

    It would've been fab, imo.

  4. People are complaining that someone from the Ted Cruz campaign is sending out fraudulent mailers ...AGAIN.

    Apparently it has happened before.

  5. Maria has been fully active in about a handful of tournaments since her return from the ban for meldonium. She had good results in Stuttgart last year but other than that, I can't really remember any other place where she had got results that were above mediocre...thoughts?

I think it's fair to say Monahan suffered obviously in some capacity and I look back at my comments realizing that abuse is not just about physical abuse  - actually most is not.

That said and not making excuses for Ellison, most politicians are narcissists. You almost have to be. Hopefully as Monahan has suffered, she is getting help also.

No doubt that Monahan has been hurt.  From an account of a high school sweetheart of Ellison's, he seems to have a tendency to move on quickly once a relationship appears to be over and that seems to be a big part of this aftermath of this one.  I too, hope that Monahan receives the help she needs. Hopefully they all are getting some type of counseling.

    On a different topic,

Trump appears to have boxed the U.S. into a corner in regards to North Korea. Everybody seems to know this (especially the North Koreans) except for Trump...maybe?

  7. In the case of Keith Ellison, Karen Monahan, his ex-girlfriend who lodged the accusation, has been trying to campaign for an Anti-Narcissistic Day on social media. She has claimed that she suffered years of narcissist abuse at the hands of Ellison. Monahan has accused Ellison of "soul-rape".

Others in this thread have mentioned that Monahan has made claims of documented proof yet so far, has produced none.  She presented texts to a Minnesota radio station as proof but all who examined the texts said that the texts were mostly cordial. There were a few in which Ellison had asked for a timeline of when she was going to move out (the two had lived together) and some more combative ones in which she texted about the emotional pain the breakup was causing her.

Monahan has said that she plans to write a book about their relationship.

Also, both an ex-wife of Ellison and a previous girlfriend have denied any instances of abuse.  And Ellison's current girlfriend has produced an e-mail from Monahan where Monahan accused the current girlfriend of stealing Ellison's affections from her.

The Ellison case is a messy messy one and in no way resembles what has transpired with Kavanaugh and this case.

I thought we who post in this Politics Thread were all fairly knowledgeable and could tell the difference.  I guess there is always one exception to every rule.

^You’d think, but someone with Berdych’s resources should have a team/agency advising him on social media best practices. It’s so easy to just do it yourself and not think about it. Well, last night was a big wake-up call for him.

True.  Berdych clearly has the resources but I was thinking about the younger pros who are just starting out and may not have the resources.  I'm not even sure that Kokkinakis is far enough along in his career to hire media people to help him.

The ITF/ATP/WTA should avail themselves as a resource to players, in particular the ATP, which has a more sophisticated social media outfit.

  9. Venus is inspiring all sorts of memes with this video.

What happened to Berdych and Kokkinakis is exactly why I ask what happened to the ATP and WTA Media training?

Most hacks happened because of weak passwords or the very unfortunate action of clicking on an infected link, usually, a link sent unwittingly by a someone in the person's own list of contacts.

Media training can help (if not entirely prevent) these unfortunate incidents.

Also help players to protect themselves from online abuse and harassment, maybe even raise the issue with the social media companies about ways to help in the process (also, the ITF may want to stop making sponsorships with betting companies, but that's a whole entire conversation).

He hasn't been discharged. He's been removed from the rescue effort and they've started an investigation. There's a whole long process before he gets kicked out, assuming he does.

Oh, boo.  Okay, thanks for clarifying that.  I had a feeling that was too quick but that's what I get for looking at the subtweets.

  11. To be honest, this ET article featuring Jane Fonda's remarks on Moonves aren't all that insightful but it's interesting because I remember reading (and posting) that Fonda's best selling workout videos were produced by Lorimar, the company that Moonves was CEO at before ascending the ranks at Warner Brothers (which incorporated Lorimar) and then CBS.

Then again, it seems as though Fonda might have had little to no direct encounters with the man.
