I'm a Young Justice fan so I knew he was still acting. Singing he started back up last year. I liked his last song. Not impressed by this song or video. And his plastic face. Yikes!

I wonder @Khan if he'll also do a parody song of that mediocre beach TV show about  he was on where Shawn Christian played his dad or something lol.

      frequentsoapfan

@soapfan770 That one was one of my shows as a teen. Lol. I loved Summerland. Shawn Christian didnt play his dad. He played his aunt's on and off boyfriend.

  2. Time to go on another hiatus from soaps. None of them have anything interesting me at the moment and I'm doing a lot more cringing than anything else during all of them.

I keep up thru Twitter.  I'm 3 eppies behind on GH.  This is a theme for me lately.  When I finally watch them, I end up ff to the end to see what's up the following eppy.  Trash all around!

Y&R is always on in my workplace, but yeah. Too much freely available content of higher quality or entertainment value.

DAYS is always on in my workplace as well as GH being on in one of the breakrooms. Sometimes people stop eating their lunch just to cringe.

  3. RIP Kim Porter!

:(  I truly feel sorry for those kids.  It's never a good time of year to lose a loved one but this time of year is particularly brutal. R.I.P.

      frequentsoapfan

Yes I immediately thought of her kids. And truly fitting one of her last IG posts was a beautiful picture of her family.

I recall when she was on the telenovela Wicked Wicked Games.. and the show filmed out of order.. so in some scenes, she looked pregnant and in other scenes she didn't.. until the show had no choice but to write her pregnancy in as the show neared its conclusion.

  4. Been a minute since I watched DAYS. It's on in the breakroom at work today. What the f**k is this embarrassing bs onscreen?

OMFG, it's a one time Halloween episode, geesh chill

Why couldn't they just have a normal Halloween episode with people dressing up and going to parties and taking their kids out?

  5. Can't stand when people use the term Soap 101

      People are using that? Why?

Now that I think of it I have myself, a few times, but I try to cut back.

When I was in graduate school, there was a course in writing for the soaps and even then, it was never called Soap 101.  It was called Writing for the Soap Opera.

    3. frequentsoapfan

      frequentsoapfan

Basically they use it to excuse predictable cliche writing

  6. Maurice Benard as John Gotti. Lifetime just never wants to make a good biopic.

They have to go with whoever they can afford and this guy was undoubtedly afford. I've never watched GH, but I've see enough promos to know that he a 99 Cent Only level actor.

      Well, it could be worse.

I'm kidding, it couldn't be any worse.

He did play Desi Arnaz in biopic back in the early 90s.. when he still had potential to be a good performer.

  7. Stumbled across a movie starring Haley Pullos, Christel Khalil, Lauren Koslow, and Dana Sparks on IMDb.  Whoever did casting just doesnt want it to succeed!

OMG, seriously? That's such a tragic cast. My God.

      Clearly it's made for Lifetime.

  8. Blackish went in tonight!

  9.  I know its a satire but American Vandal still looks like  waste of money and a try hard show.

    1. DramatistDreamer

      DramatistDreamer

A massive waste of money is an understatement. I couldn't imagine spending time watching an entire film on this- the trailer was quite enough. SMH.  There are so many talented  filmmakers who'd like the opportunity to present work on Nexflix.

  10. What the hell is this show with the talking dog on ABC?

  11. What is nothingburger?

  12. What is this trash on Y&R? Young people do not talk like that in real life. Using slang I heard on Nickelodeon in the 90s.

    1. Khan

      Khan

I wish older writers would refrain from incorporating slang or pop culture references into their dialogue.  They never seem to understand that what is hip now will be passe before it even hits the airwaves.

They need younger writers to write the younger set

  13. That Scandal parody in Dear White People was on point

OMG!!! I had to do a double take, since it was 2007 when they cancelled the show....
that's nice that they are doing this, as many (myself included) are still very loyal to this show.......and so far seems like a good lineup! my beloved Juliet Mills, and LH/EM....

      slick jones

That scene with Mac and that girl was so skeevy. When he tore into his girlfriend, I figured she might take the carving knife to him...

As for that faith musician , he was textbook abuser.Little Prick.

As for that kiss...it was about time...Imagine Mae walking in on that...

    4. frequentsoapfan

      frequentsoapfan

I knew that boy would be an abuser a few weeks ago the way he was telling her what to eat and drink. I knew he'd go off on her after that critique as soon as he turned his head.

  15. I was watching some of those DE reels and man some of them were awful. Yet folks were commenting on how amazing they were

  16. Pratt out as showrunner for Star. Good! Cuz he did his usual throw everything but the kitchen sink at the characters style writing all season. Especially in the finale

@DRW50 In terms of mainstream movies, yes. There are some indie gems that are lurking that unless you live in L.A. or NYC, you wouldn't be able to see otherwise. It's been pretty good, particularly for Black filmmakers and documentarians.

I can't completely knock it. Know of any other areas where Black filmmaker's work are featured as often?

    3. DRW50

      DRW50

I was talking more about their TV shows, which seem to be veering more and more toward milquetoast. I do appreciate the chances they offer some filmmakers.

@DramatistDreamer, folks want better but we realize we aren't getting better so we have to settle for the lesser of evils.

  17. Watched a recent clip of GH. Man the acting was terrible! And why did it look like a student film from the early 2000s?

    1. slick jones

      slick jones

ValenVarni's  GH. This is the Golden Era in Port Chuck---better than anything on television or the interwebs.   :D   Haha

My mother and I even had a discussion about this today and the crazy ideas people are pushing lately from trying to exclude non AAs from BHM to the allhistorymatters loons to trying to exclude light skinned folks from being black.

  19. The IMDB boards shutting down reminds me of when TWoP shut down. I never did quite understand what board on boards meant

      ~bl~

The board on board thing was supposed to mean statements like "I know this is an unpopular opinion" or "I speak for everyone when I say". Starting a comment "I don't get what is wrong with you people for not liking this episode" also were banned. Basically don't act like your opinion on the message board is more important cuz it is popular or unpopular. At times it turned into don't discuss issues you have with a moderator, because that has nothing to do with the topic you are discussing. The soap boards weren't managed like other parts, and the moderating wasn't consistent, but that's what happens with large boards. Threads for particular people also typically weren't supposed to be for "fans" only, so no one was allowed to discuss fans of a particular person in the thread about that person. (That I agreed with, because who wants to read about a fan war about a character when you want to see thoughts about the character's story.)  I lurked more than anything else, as TWOP started when Dawson's Creek was still on the air and under a different name. And years ago the unwritten rule of posting was read see if you like what you see then post, don't post to change the community.

    3. SweetPea36

      SweetPea36

Some of their rules made sense at the beginning, but when the more power-hungry mods began losing their perspective, the rules were often used to enforce agendas. I remember one mod who was a diehard fan of a certain actor. Not only were posters not allowed to say anything critical of his favorite, eventually he refused to allow any positive comments about other actors. As if we needed more proof that absolute power corrupts absolutely.

      Bad craziness reigned.

    4. frequentsoapfan

      frequentsoapfan

It morphed into don't dislike the mod's favorites or else they'll ban you for board on boards.

  20. The IMDb boards are finally being shut down

    1. DramatistDreamer

      DramatistDreamer

      Not surprised.

Over the years, it seems like they changed their policies and made it more restrictive to get access to post for newer subscribers on the one hand, while allowing the discussions to descend into chaos, snark and deliberately obtuse questions, rarely are they actually helpful.

It's a shame because the messageboards could've been so much more than they actually ended up being.

    2. SweetPea36

      SweetPea36

There have been so many really vile trolls on there lately. That may have been at least part of the reason. I used to enjoy going there because I always learned something, but that hasn't been true for some time. What I've learned there recently isn't anything I ever wanted to know.

  21. Lol in her new movie Merry Christmas, Baby! Victoria Rowell threw a little shade about those soap opera's  stories not being "as good as they used to"

      SweetPea36

The scenes I watch are rarely done well; there's always the feeling they aren't quite complete. I've never seen the acting suck as badly as it does now.
