  2. Quick note regarding pre-emptions, before I continue with 1957...

Christmas and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day pre-emptions were very on and off according to my findings, so I will not be treating them as pre-emptions before we get to the 80's.

Although Thanksgiving Thursday and Friday were always pre-empted from 1986 onwards at least, I have evidence that Thanksgiving Friday aired in 1979 and semi-evidence that episodes aired on both Thanksgiving dates in 1980, so I will not treat Thanksgiving as pre-emptions until the 80's either.

Annual basketball pre-emptions in March started in 1991. I'm not sure when the annual US Open pre-emptions in September started, but the earliest one I have confirmed is 1987 (with up to 1981 semi-confirmed), so I will not treat those as pre-emptions until the 80's either.

All of this, of course, is until I have any evidence to the contrary.

I'm also going to start pasting in actor debuts/exits/returns according to soapcentral's who's who profiles... However, I will NOT count this info as indicative of an episode having aired, as soapcentral's dates are quite often off the mark and sometimes they are not even weekdays. I just figured it would help to paint a better picture... For example (I will update 1956 in a minute), I had no idea that May/June 1956 was so messy in terms of actor changes. Soapcentral even lists an 'off' period for Helen Wagner in those months, although I'll take that with a grain of salt... I will disregard any soapcentral-info that I know to be untrue (i.e. John Colenback's last appearance being on September 21, 1979... That episode was posted by WeLoveSoapsVideo, and Dan is already dead.)

  4. As some of you know, I've been trying to compile a "full" episode list for As The World Turns. Obviously, it's not going to be possible to get to a full episode list, as many episodes from before 1980 are lost completely. But I've found quite a few episode numbers online, and have managed to 'connect' a portion of these based on some research and some help from the folks in the As The World Turns thread, which I've been clogging up in the past few weeks.

I thought it would be interesting to start posting the results of my research so far in this separate thread, so that we can all work on an episode list that's as "full" as it possibly can be together. I will be posting the contents of my excel sheet in this thread in portions, working my way from 1956 to 2010. Obviously, the sections up until 1980 are going to be soemwhat 'boring', in the sense that there simply isn't much that I've found out about it yet. But it should get more interesting once we get to 1980.

Here's how it works: I will be posting all weekday dates. When I have confirmed an episode to have aired on a certain date, the date will be put in bold. When I assume an episode may have been pre-empted on a certain date, the date will be put in red. When I have confirmed an episode to have been pre-empted on a certain date, it will be both in red and in bold. Epsiode numbers will be given next to the dates. If an episode number is in bold, it means that I have confirmed that episode number for that date. If an episode number is not in bold, but it is given, it means that I have connected the previous and next confirmed episode numbers and have thus confirmed the episode number to belong to that date by proxy (not from a primary source, so to speak). If no episode number is given, the episode falls in an 'unconnected' era and is thus unknown to me. This all probably sounds complicated, but it'll make sense soon enough (basically bold is for anything that's confirmed, whether an airing or a pre-emption, and red is for anything that's pre-empted, either potentially or certainly). .

I also want to try to provide info on where the episodes that are available on youtube can be found once I get to the post-1980s era, and to give info on my sources so it'll be transparent why I've reached certain conclusions. My main sources all come from this site (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/), particularly the sections on 'research sources', 'music history' and 'dates'

In a moment, I will post 1956. April 2, 1956 is confirmed to be episode #1. Obviously, I don't assume the show was pre-empted the next day (and thus I'm fairly sure the April 3, 1956 episode is #2), but since I simply don't know when  it was pre-empted for the first time, I will be treating all episodes as unconfirmed and without episode numbers.

The whole point of posting it in a separate thread is of course to encourage collaboration, so if you have any info on any of these eras, please share. I will update each section with new info when I have it. If (fingers crossed) any "lost" episodes should resurface online, for example, we may work them in.

Finally, for all you non-ATWT-fans: let me clarify right now that I will unfortunately not be doing the same thing in the future for other soaps, as I only ever watched ATWT and that's the only soap I feel I know enough about to undertake this project. I do, however, encourage other fans to do the same for other soaps, as I think we might be able to help each other (for example, on a day that ATWT was pre-empted, it's likely the other CBS soaps were pre-empted as well).

  5. 23rd (and final) era: August 27, 1980 - August 25, 1981

Obviously, this is far from the "final" era, as ATWT debuted in 1956. However, this is the earliest "checkpoint" I have that I feel I may actually be able to make sense of. In the various pages I have listed as sources, there are actually a few more episode numbers from pre-1980. As I stated previously, I will be taking this project to a separate thread, where I hope to create a "full" (meaning: as full as possible) episode list for the show, keeping track of verified airings and pre-emptions, that can be updated if any lost episodes should re-surface online. I will list any pre-1980 episode numbers I know in that separate thread. So, for now, August 27, 1980 is as early as I'll go back.

As stated in my previous post, episode #6,559 aired on August 25, 1981.

According to the Corporate Archives in Cincinnati, OH (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #6,300 aired on August 27, 1980.

These episode numbers actually line up perfectly, meaning no episodes would have been pre-empted in between these two dates. I must admit I'm a little suspicious of no episodes having been pre-empted in an entire year... This would mean both the US Open and the Thanksgiving pre-emptions started after 1980. But I do get the sense that there used to be far fewer pre-emptions before the 80's came along. So maybe it's right after all? Either way, these are the dates that I would have suspected could have been pre-empted, but apparently weren't (it would be great if we could verify these episodes as having aired, but since we're already in 1980, I won't get my hopes up):

    September 1, 1980: US Open?

    September 5, 1980: US Open?

    November 27, 1980: Thanksgiving?

    November 28, 1980: Thanksgiving?

    December 25, 1980: Christmas?

    December 31, 1980: New Year's Eve?

    January 1, 1981: New Year's Day?

One other interesting tidbit from this era:

The March 30, 1981 episode was partially pre-empted due to the Reagan shooting. I'm assuming, since it was a partial pre-emption, that it wasn't re-broadcast, and thus, for the purposes of this project, I count it as an airing.

As always, any info on these dates and more will be much appreciated!

  6. 22nd era: August 25, 1981 - October 6, 1982

As specified in my last post, episode #6,840 aired on October 6, 1982.

According to the Corporate Archives in Cincinnati, OH (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #6,559 aired on August 25, 1981.

Based on these episode numbers, 10 episodes must have been pre-empted in between these two dates.

November 2, 1981 saw the debut of new theme music. According to the page on the show's theme music history from the same site where I got all the old archived episodes (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/music.html, under 'Theme #4: The World Turns On And On'), that episode was #6,606. However, in the section on the previous theme music, which was last heard the previous day on October 30, 1981 (under 'Theme #1: 'Theme for As The World Turns') it mentions the theme was heard "roughly the first 6605 episodes". Therefore, I'm not sure if I can count #6,605 (October 30, 1981) and #6,606 (November 2, 1981) as verified episode numbers.

However, IF these two numbers are correct, there would need to have been 2 pre-emptions between August 25, 1981 and October 30, 1981. The only two contenders I have for these slots are:

    September 9, 1981: US Open?

    September 11, 1981: US Open?

IF these should be correct, it's reasonable to assume that the US Open pre-emptions for 1982, 1983, 1984 and 1985 are correct as well.

Following the above logic, we would need to find 8 pre-emptions between November 2, 1981 and October 6, 1982. I have seven contenders:

    November 26, 1981: Thanksgiving?

    November 27, 1981: Thanksgiving?

    December 25, 1981: Christmas?

    December 31, 1981: New Year's Eve?

    January 1, 1982: New Year's Day?

    September 6, 1982: US Open?

    September 10, 1982: US Open?

IF the #6,605 and 6,606 episode numbers should not be correct, I simply have the above-listed nine contenders for the 10 pre-emptions between August 25, 1981 and October 6, 1982.

As always any info on these dates and more will be much appreciated!

  7. 21st era: October 6, 1982 - October 29, 1982

As specified in my last post, episode #6,857 aired on October 29, 1982.

According to the Corporate Archives in Cincinnati, OH (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #6,840 aired on October 6, 1982.

These two episode numbers actually perfectly line up, which means that no episodes were pre-empted in between these two dates.

  8. 20th era: October 29, 1982 - May 20, 1983

As specified in my last post, episode #7,000 aired on May 20, 1983.

According to the Jerome Lawrence & Robert E. Lee Theatre Research Institute at Ohio State University (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/papsources.html), episode #6,857 aired on October 29, 1982.

Based on these episode numbers, 2 episodes must have been pre-empted in between these two dates. I have three contenders listed:

    November 25, 1982: Thanksgiving?

    November 26, 1982: Thanksgiving?

    December 31, 1983: New Year's Eve?

I'm inclined to assume that it was probably the two Thanksgiving dates that were pre-empted here. If that's the case, then it's reasonable to assume that both Thanksgiving dates were pre-empted in 1983, 1984 and 1985 as well. However, as I stated before, Thanksgiving Friday definitely aired in 1979, and based on the episode numbers, I'm led to believe that episodes may have aired on BOTH Thanksgiving dates in 1980 (which we'll get to in a few posts). So, IF both episodes aired in 1980 and IF they were both pre-empted in 1982 (a lot of IFs), then the Thanksgiving policy must have changed in 1981 or 1982.

As always, any info will be much appreciated!

  9. 19th era: May 20, 1983 - August 2, 1984

As specified in my last post, episode #7,307 aired on August 2, 1984.

    According to this timeline (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/dates.html

on the same page where I found all the archived episodes), episode #7,000 aired on May 20, 1983.

Based on these episode numbers, 7 episodes must have been pre-empted in between these two dates. I have no pre-emptions verified, but I do have four contenders:

    September 5, 1983: US Open?

    September 9, 1983: US Open?

    November 24, 1983: Thanksgiving?

    November 25, 1983: Thanksgiving?

As always, any info on these dates and more will be much appreciated!

  10. 18th era: August 2, 1984 - November 13, 1984

As specified in my last post, episode #7,377 aired on November 13, 1984.

According to the Corporate Archives in Cincinnati, OH (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #7,307, aired on August 2, 1984.

Based on these episode numbers, 3 episodes must have been pre-empted in between these two dates. I have no verified pre-emptions, but I do have two contenders:

    September 3, 1984: US Open?

    September 7, 1984: US Open?

As always, any info on these dates will be much appreciated. Even if both of these are indeed correct, that still leaves 1 pre-emption unaccounted for.

That was the day of the Challenger disaster, which occurred at midday (11:39 a.m.). I'm positive all of the soaps were preempted that day -- can 100 percent confirm <i>Days</i> and <i>Santa Barbara</i> were.

Right... now that you mentioned that I remember reading that last year. Thanks for clarifying that!

At point did they go from preempting a soap for live news coverage to rescheduling the episode for late night?  For example, in Los Angeles during the OJ trial and beyond the soaps would be shown at 2am rather than actually skipping a day.  I understand that there are always planned preemptions from holidays and sports but at some point the networks seemed to have decided to reschedule rather than preempt for live news coverage; at least on the west coast.

Hmmm... that's interesting. I guess that makes sense, especially as soap fans became more vocal about not missing their stories. I guess it's similar to how the February 1, 1994 episode was re-broadcast the day after (as I mentioned in an earlier post), so those affected by the pre-emption wouldn't miss anything. I always assumed that back in the day, when soaps were pre-empted for live news, the episode was just 'lost' and it would pick up on the next episode the next day. Obviously this must have been the case for the live days (like the JFK pre-emption), but I'm not sure how they went about it when they started pre-recording. I was surprised to find out about the re-broadcast.

Still, if you try to connect the episode numbers, it's obvious that both in 1987 (Iran-Contra hearings) and in 1994 (O.J.) there were more pre-emptions than in an average year, so I'm guessing a lot of it was still pre-empted.

  13. 17th era: November 13, 1984 - April 2, 1986

As specified in my last post, episode #7,729 aired on April 2, 1986.

According to Corporate Archives in Cincinnati, OH (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #7,377 aired on November 13, 1984.

Based on these episode numbers, 9 episodes must have been pre-empted in between these two dates.

As of 1985, I am not certain about any of the 'standard' pre-emptions. I'm not sure when CBS started pre-empting for US Open in September, but I have it confirmed from 1986 onwards. Similarly, from 1986 onwards, Thanksgiving thursdays and fridays were always pre-empted. However, if WeLoveSoapsVideos dated its episodes properly, an episode aired on Thanksgiving friday in 1979. As a result, I will not be counting any Thanksgiving or US Open pre-emptions as 'certain' before 1986 and will count them as 'potential pre-emptions instead'. Unfortunately, this means that I have no pre-emptions confirmed in this era. I have eleven episodes listed as 'potential pre-emptions', but that's actually two too many, as there should only be 9 pre-emptions. Here are the contenders:

    November 22, 1984: Thanksgiving?

    November 23, 1984: Thanksgiving?

    December 25, 1984: Christmas?

January 1, 1985: New Years Day? (Alternatively, December 31, 1984: New Year's Eve?)

    September 2, 1985: US Open?

    September 6, 1985: US Open?

    November 28, 1985: Thanksgiving?

    November 29, 1985: Thanksgiving?

December 25, 1985: Christmas? (This seems likely, since December 24 is the Christmas episode... unfortunately, Dan Region doesn't announce the pre-emption)

January 1, 1986: New Year's Day? (December 31, 1985 is confirmed as airing!)

January 28, 1986: I had this listed as pre-empted in my research from last year, but couldn't retrace it this year...

As always, any info on these dates will be much appreciated!

I might post some more later today... I have about 5 more "eras" to go to get to my earliest "checkpoint"... Once I've posted those, I'm thinking about starting a separate thread where I'll basically post my entire excel file, with references to where all the episodes can be found. That way, we can all contribute if, say, some never before seen episodes should resurface (fingers crossed!)...

  14. 16th era: April 2, 1986 - November 7, 1986

As specified in my last post, episode #7,884 aired on November 7, 1986.

According to both the Corporate Archives in Cincinnati, OH, as well as the ATAS-UCLA Television Archives (both found at http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #7,729 aired on April 2, 1986 (the 30th anniversary episode).

Based on these episode numbers, 2 episodes were pre-empted in between these two dates. I have both pre-emptions confirmed:

    1986 (post-April 2; pre-November 7): September 1 & 5

  15. 15th era: November 7, 1986 - November 3, 1987

As specified in my last post, episode #8,120 aired on November 3, 1987.

According to the Corporate Archives in Cincinnati, OH (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #7,884 aired on November 7, 1986.

Based on these two episode numbers, 21 episodes must have been pre-empted in between these two dates. I'm certain of these seven pre-emptions:

    1986 (post-November 7): November 27 & 28; December 25

    1987 (pre-November 3): January 1; July 23; September 7 & 11

That leaves 14 pre-emptions unaccounted for... Obviously, this era was plagued by the Iran-Contra hearings, which were between July 13 and August 7. As indicated above, I have confirmed the July 23 episode as pre-empted. Meanwhile, I've confirmed the July 21, 22 & 24 episodes, as well as the August 5, 6 & 7 episodes as airing.

Which means the following 13 episodes may have been pre-empted:

    July 13, 1987

    July 14, 1987

    July 15, 1987

    July 16, 1987

    July 17, 1987

    July 20, 1987

    July 27, 1987

    July 28, 1987

    July 29, 1987

    July 30, 1987

    July 31, 1987

    August 3, 1987

    August 4, 1987

Even if all of these episodes were pre-empted, there would still need to be another pre-emption unaccounted for. More likely, a large number of the above episodes were pre-empted and there were a few more elsewhere in the era.

As always, any info on these dates will be much appreciated!

I'm looking at newspaper listings. I tried to check with at least two states in different time zones to make sure that it wasn't just a preemption in one part of the country.

On January 2, 1989, it looks like CBS aired the Tournament of Roses parade preempting their daytime lineup.

On January 20, 1989, it looks like all soaps (ABC, CBS, and NBC) are preempted for the inauguration.

On February 20, 1989, it looks CBS aired a NBA game between Houston and Cleveland which preempted their soaps.

Great find! Thank you so much! That February 20 pre-emption means I can now connect that era that was driving me crazy.

May I ask where you found these? I've been meaning to look through newspaper listings myself, but most sites are unfortunately blocked outside of the US (which is where I am).

Re: inaugurations... I feel like actual inaugurations (presidents' first terms) were always pre-empted. The thing that makes no sense to me is that January 20, 2005 (W. Bush's second term) was pre-empted, but January 20, 1997 (Clinton's second term) was not. Oh well.

  17. 14th era: November 3, 1987 - February 17, 1989

As specified in my last post, episode #8,445 aired on February 17, 1989.

According to the Corporate Archives in Cincinnati, OH (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #8,120 aired on November 3, 1987.

Based on these two episode numbers, 13 episodes must have been pre-empted in between these two dates. I'm certain of these seven pre-emptions:

    1987 (post-November 3): November 26 & 27

    1988: January 1; September 5 & 9; November 24 & 25

That leaves 6 pre-emptions unaccounted for. I have 3 educated guesses, which I have not yet been able to confirm:

    December 25, 1987: Christmas?

January 2, 1989: I'm hearing the Cotton Bowl may have been held that day, since January 1 was a Sunday?

    January 20, 1989: Bush Inauguration?

As for the other 3 pre-emptions, your guess is as good as mine.

As always, any info on these airdates will be much appreciated.

    Next time: November 11, 1986 - November 3, 1987; April 2, 1986 - November 11, 1986; November 13, 1984 - April 2, 1986

  18. 13th era: February 17, 1989 - March 20, 1989

This one is driving me nuts, because it's such a short period and I'm so close to connecting it fully...

As specified in my last post, episode #8,465 aired on March 20, 1989.

According to Corporate Archives in Cincinnati, OH (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #8,445 aired on February 17, 1989.

Based on these two episode numbers, 1 episode must have been pre-empted in between these two dates. I can rule out the February 22 & 23 episodes, as well as the March 16 & 17 episodes, which I've all confirmed as airing. That leaves the following 16 contenders for the sole pre-emption:

    February 20, 1989

    February 21, 1989

    February 24, 1989

    February 27, 1989

    February 28, 1989

    March 1, 1989

    March 2, 1989

    March 3, 1989

    March 6, 1989

    March 7, 1989

    March 8, 1989

    March 9, 1989

    March 10, 1989

    March 13, 1989

    March 14, 1989

    March 15, 1989

As always, any info on these dates will be much appreciated!

  19. 12th era: March 20, 1989 - July 17, 1989

As specified in my last post, episode #8,550 aired on July 17, 1989

According to the ATAS-UCLA Television Archives (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #8,465 aired on March 20, 1989.

These two episode numbers actually perfectly match up, which means that presumably no episodes were pre-empted in between these two dates.

  20. 11th era: July 17, 1989 - September 29, 1989

According to the ATAS-UCLA Television Archives, episode #8,602 aired on September 29, 1989 (which makes sense, as according to my last post, episode #8,603 aired on October 2, 1989, which is the following Monday.

According to the same source, as well as the Corporate Archives in Cincinnati, OH, AND the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago (all found at http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #8,550 aired on July 17, 1989.

Based on these episode numbers, 2 episodes must have been pre-empted in between these two dates. I've confirmed both of the pre-emptions:

    1989 (post-July 17; pre-September 29): September 4 & 8

  21. 10th era: October 2, 1989 - December 8, 1989

As specified in my last post, episode #8,650 aired on December 8, 1989.

According to the Corporate Archives in Cincinnati, OH (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #8,603 aired on October 2, 1989.

Based on these episode numbers, 2 episodes must have been pre-empted in between these two dates. I've confirmed both of these pre-emptions:

    1989 (post-October 2; pre-December 8): November 23 & 24

  22. 9th era: December 8, 1989 - July 30, 1990

As specified in my last post, episode #8,812 aired on July 30, 1990.

According to the ATAS-UCLA Television Archives (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #8,781 aired on June 15, 1990. This matches up perfectly with episode #8,812 on July 30, meaning every episode in between likely aired.

The same source says that episode #8,650 aired on December 8th, 1989.

Based on these episode numbers, 4 episodes must have been pre-empted in between these dates. I am certain of these two pre-emptions:

    1990 (pre-June 15): January 1; May 28

That leaves 2 pre-emptions unaccounted for. I have no leads as to which dates they might have been, but there are only 29 contenders:

    December 11, 1989

    December 12, 1989

    December 13, 1989

    December 14, 1989

    December 15, 1989

    December 20, 1989

    December 21, 1989

    December 22, 1989

    December 26, 1989

    December 27, 1989

    January 3, 1990

    January 8, 1990

    January 11, 1990

    January 31, 1990

    February 1, 1990

    February 13, 1990

    February 14, 1990

    February 15, 1990

    February 23, 1990

    February 26, 1990

    March 16, 1990

    March 21, 1990

    March 26, 1990

    March 29, 1990

    April 4, 1990

    April 16, 1990

    April 17, 1990

    May 3, 1990

    May 10, 1990

As always, any info on any of these air dates will be much appreciated!

Next time: the remainder of 1989, which is broken up into about four more eras, including one that drives me crazy, where there is only 1 pre-emption unaccounted for.

  23. 8th era: July 30, 1990 - January 8, 1991

As specified in my last post, episode #8,920 aired on January 8, 1991.

According to the ATAS-UCLA Television Archives (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #8,812 aired on July 30, 1990.

Based on these two episode numbers, 8 episodes must have been pre-empted in between these two dated. I'm certain of these four pre-emptions:

    1990 (post-July 30): September 3 & 7; November 22 & 23

That leaves 4 more pre-emptions. I have suspect these episodes could possibly have been pre-empted, but haven't been able to verify:

    October 4, 1990: Major League?

    October 5, 1990: Major League?

    October 8, 1990: Major League?

    October 9, 1990: Major League?

    October 10, 1990: Major League?

    October 11, 1990: Major League?

    October 12, 1990: Major League?

    December 25, 1990: Christmas?

    December 31, 1990: New Year's Eve?

    January 1, 1991: New Year's Day?

As always, any info on these dates will be much appreciated!

  24. 7th era: January 8, 1991 - June 3, 1991

As specified in my last post, episode #9,019 aired on June 3, 1991.

According to Chicago's Museum of Broadcast Communications (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #8,920 aired on January 8, 1991.

Based on these two episode numbers, 5 episodes must have been pre-empted in between these two dates. I'm certain of these pre-emptions:

    1991 (post-January 8; pre-June 3): March 14 & 15

That leaves 3 more pre-emptions. Unfortunately, I don't really have any leads on which other dates may have been pre-empted here, so, as usual, any info will be much appreciated!

In the 90s they still had post-season baseball games in the afternoon still and CBS had the rights. You need to check those dates in October 1991.

October 8, 9, 11, 12, 13 were the ALCS (Tues, Wed, Friday, Sat,. Sun) and the NLCS were October 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 16 - Wed, Thus, Sat, Sun, Mon, Wed. - 12 & 13 were Saturday and Sunday, so soaps weren't pre-empted. But on Wednesday the 9th, they wouldn't have shown two games at the same slot, so one had to be in the afternoon. I can't recall how many days didn't have soaps, but I remember seeing promos about how you won't miss anything due to baseball years ago.

Thanks for that info, ~bl~ ! I'll add it to the notes I've scribbled in my file. If one or two of these days were pre-empted, though, it would mean that either December 31 or January 1, or both, weren't pre-empted (which isn't completely unheard of). I'll see if I can find out more about the baseball pre-emptions.

I wonder why the Bell Tower episode was pre-empted that day? I know the 1-17-94 ep was pre-empted due to the Northridge earthquake but I'm not sure what happened to the 2/2/94 episode. Thanks for all your help though!

According to btm0815ma's comments the February 1, 1994 episode (The Bell Tower, which is on the Holden & Lily DVD) was pre-empted in the Eastern time zone for a CBS special news report on the Tonya Harding/Nancy Kerrington situation. Because a large part of the country missed the episode, it was then re-broadcast on February 2. I had heard about the re-broadcast in another place as well (although I can't recall now where it was), but wasn't aware of the reason for the pre-emption until I read the comments on magilla's channel.

You are certain, then, that the January 17 episode was pre-empted? Because I can't find it anywhere else than in those comments by btm0815ma on magilla's channel (again, not that I don't believe them, they seem to know what they're talking about... I'm just a little hesistant to accept any info too eagerly, as it will be impossible to track where I went wrong once a mistake slips in there).
