  1. Nikki said she added more episodes to 1994 and asked to remind everyone she doesn't have anything after Hunter left so Taylor's death will be the end of the 94 episodes.

Also what is everyone's general opinion of 1995 and 1996 B&B? I am finding those years a chore to watch - all of the focus on Rick and Bridget is nauseating. Why in the world was Brad Bell or whomever so in love with Steve Hartman? That kid ate up so much airtime.

Amanda has chemistry with Billy...that would put her in orbit to Jill and the other Abbotts.

She shouldn't be paired with Devon again..at least in a romantic way.

I thought they cut Amanda and Billy because the audience wasn't into it at all? Pretty sure it was said fan reaction stopped Billy/Amanda (though I can't imagine anyone is interested in Lily/Billy who are dull as dirt).

  3. I am not done watching 1994 and I hope we get as much of the early months of that year as possible but I am really struck by how much better the writing was from 92-94 than it was in any other period of the show.

Aside from the triangle and even Belief, I enjoyed the Sally/Jack/Stephanie triangle, the Sheila story, Thorne and Macy's marriage troubles, etc. It is crazy to me that Bill Bell seemed to step away this as this show was starting to reach its potential and not soon after you felt the decline.

I have obviously seen episodes from late 1994 after Hunter returned and it almost feels like a TOTALLY different show than it was before she left not just how it was written but it even LOOKED like a completely different show.

I think that tweet is stupid lol Sex has definitely driven plenty of plot points in real life, so yes, it's often necessary to at least see some of it in a movie or TV show. Is it always necessary? Probably not. But to make a blanket statement saying that they're complete unnecessary is foolish.

LOL I don't agree with him either (movies like Unfaithful don't work without sex scenes), but specific to soaps how do you feel? Have you missed them now that Covid prevents any show from doing them?

  5. There was huge discussion on social media around the holidays about whether sex scenes in television and film are necessary and I thought it would be interesting to discuss it where soaps are concerned.

With Covid, obviously we aren't getting any of the love/sex scenes that we usually get - do you miss them? Do you think soaps need them? Do you think not having them is hurting any particular story/show/arc? Has it effected how much you enjoy certain couples or pairings? Has Covid changed how you view them?

    What are your thoughts?

Tricia Quick on B&B was definitely meant to be a Taylor replacement after Tylo left the show in 2002, I think Tricia lasted all but six months on the show. I remember SOD was highly critical of the whole thing.

To chime in on others comments Tucker on Y&R was indeed developed as a Victor replacement during whole EB leaving back in 2009 while Genevieve was an attempt to replace both Nikki & Jill at the same time.

I was waiting for someone to mention Tricia Quick. What a dumb disaster that was.

GH and its merry go round of tiny brunettes they tried to use as Brenda replacements.

Wasn't Genevieve around the time that MTS had actually cleaned out her dressing room? I remember an interview with Logan or Fairman where MTS basically says Genie was brought on as her replacement but it wasn't MAB's fault. The issue was above her.

I can't see Terry Lester playing out any of Jack's 1990s storylines.

I have seen many people say this but I can't quite understand why. I mean sure, the Luan story I don't see but I know people think Jack falling in love with Nikki was the start of the character changing and I have seen scenes where Terry's Jack was just as taken with Nikki and I could have easily seen him conning Nikki into marriage only to fall in love with her.

    This one in particular:

  8. All of the conversations and arguments that Bold and Beautiful had in the 90's about marriage. I find that soaps treat marriage in a very flippant way. People get married and divorced and never really talk about it or their problems and it was so nice that back in the day B&B really took it seriously and had pretty extensive conversations about it - at least where Ridge and Taylor and Stephanie and Eric were concerned.

I really thought it was interesting how often they really dissected marriage - what it means to each person, what their expectations are, whether friendships with the opposite sex are appropriate, etc.

    Some examples:

Stephanie tells Taylor and Ridge she thinks Eric marrying Brooke is a midlife crisis

Taylor and Ridge arguing about being attracted to other people while married and how to deal with that:

    Stephanie giving Ridge marriage advice:

Stephanie talking to Ridge about how to handle problems in his marriage and dealing with blame:

  9. Hey everyone,

Those 1999 episodes are apparently from Nikki N who does the B&B episodes. She emailed asking some of us if we knew the dates and could rename them.  I don't know the dates though. Can anyone rename those clips? Can you even do that in the share?

Had Terry Lester stayed on...do you guys think the Nikki/Jack wedding in 1990 would have happened?

I don't know if it would have happened the way it happened necessarily but I think Nikki and Jack definitely would have married eventually anyway.

To be fair, Brad Bell has been getting international headlines for his show. I can’t knock his hustle. He’s at least TRYING to drum up interest. What is Y&R or CBS doing? Nothing. The show has no promo and is down a million viewers. I’m no Brad Bell fan, but at least he is trying.

Lets raise the bar a little higher than that. It can't be "well at least Brad is trying" when trying is gimmicky embarrassing nonsense like sex dolls and dolls as characters.

Yes Y&R could and should be doing more however if them doing more is stooping to EB doing interviews about dry humping mannequins than they can just cancel soaps. Its not worth it.

I am under no illusion that soaps will ever be what they once were but they can and should be better than they are now. I'm never going to be of the opinion that its better to have them on while they're embarrassing and awful than not on at all. I would have much preferred GL get cancelled in 2007 and go out with a shred of dignity over what it became when it moved to Peapeck.
