  1. I remember reading that Gordon's going to ABC was because of Fred Silverman.  He had seen Gordon's work and liked him.  Apparently, Silverman did the same with several prime-time actors too.  Of course, he then left for NBC.

  2. I took them for granted, for one thing.  Didn't imagine there would be so few around when I got older.  I think I watched most that were on the air in the 70s, to varying degrees.  I could only watch when I was out of school though.  My mom watched the NBC soaps, so she could catch me up on those if I had questions.  I would sometimes get home from school in time to watch the shows that came on in late afternoon.  There used to be synopses in newspapers for the others, and then Soap Opera Digest.  I remember calling a phone line to get synopses too.  I would channel surf if my favorite soaps weren't showing anything I was interested in.  Had a radio that could pick up tv broadcasts, once I left school.  Bought a vcr in the 80s, which obviously made keeping up easier, but I also cut down on the number of shows I watched, as I didn't have as much free time.

Variety has Michael Maitland coming in Nov 71. So maybe Robby was first then Michael took over and Robby returned?

    Another mystery to be solved...

Found an article from November 1971 that said Michael was a "new recruit" to SFT.  An article from September 1971, announcing that Robby had been cast in the film, Jory, said that he would be on SFT until he left to film in Mexico, which was due to start on November 17, 1971.  So maybe Michael was just a replacement until Robby finished filming Jory?  Though I haven't found anything about Robby returning to SFT.

One of the flashbacks that airs on Tracey Bregman 40th anniv episode.

What episode is this Joanna flashback from? I'd like to watch the original, if I know where to look in the vault.

    Maybe @jam6242 knows?

Sorry, I don't know either.  Would like to see it myself.

  5. I once worked with a man who said in the late 60s/early 70s, our organization would measure the men's sideburns to ensure they weren't too long, so maybe Matt's obsession with Jody Lee's hair wasn't that far off.  I remember my father being appalled at The Beatles "long" hair when they first became known.

Hank was around without much to do for over a year. Until he was written out by Doug Marland. Both Hank and Laurie deserved much better.

Agree, there was still plenty of story that could have been written for them.  Could have still done the story with Laurie wanting a career and maybe Hank wanting to start a family right away.

I just realized the actor playing the return from the dead story for Mike Powers is Michael Landrum. I just assumed it was Armand Assante because I've heard his name so many times in the role, but I think he is the next Mike. I wonder why they recast as he seems like a good actor. It looks like they went for a more mature, leading man type that looks like his father. It's a big contrast to Peter Burrell, but I feel like he'll make sense standing next to Matt.

Also, I hope I don't regret asking in case its a big spoiler, but how do Hank and Laurie get written off? I know they don't stay until the end, which is a shame, but I really enjoy them. I had no idea a soap (other than OLTL with Ellen Holly) in the 70s had long running Black characters, especially ones that seem to get good screentime like Laurie and Hank. They're better written than most of the Black characters in 2022.

Laurie just disappeared and it was said that she had left Hank to be with her agent, Harry, in NYC and returned to singing.  Marie Thomas used to post on a FB group for The Doctors when her episodes were airing.  She said tptb wanted her to go on recurring and she didn't want to do that.  I think Hank was offered a job elsewhere and never returned from checking it out.
