I’m not a watcher of Emmerdale anymore, but from the little I understand, this won’t exactly inspire confidence in the audience.

 

Looks like the UK soaps are making the same mistakes as the American soap have made; recycling producers.

Alcoholic Nikki needs to attend an AA meeting. We get a scene with the camera only on her at this meeting -- because there's no set. We get one flat as a backdrop and no extras except the back of a head. Awful production.

Tessa and Mariah worry about Newman security while living at the ranch house. Production? It's all offscreen, until it's time to look for a new place to live -- so they flip through Zillow on their phone.

I can do this with every single plot on this show. None of this excuses Josh Griffith. Yes, he's come up with good plot developments, but he's also responsible for the breakdown and production.

 

It's incredible, most writers would kill to have both EP and HW credit, less hoops to jump through and etc. but with Josh he's failing miserably bc it seems like he can't execute his own stories yet he controls production and the day to day writing. 

I doesn't seem that RH was a good environment back when it was on air, at least from Levin's description.

This would be a great idea, one I would expect to happen under the scabs. Under Ron, I wouldn't hold my breath. 

I think CBS is taking note of the success (at least talk wise/watercooler discussions) of shows that are centered around African Americans. BMF, All American, heck even Tyler Perry produced written shows such as The Oval and All The Queen's Men; they all have an audience of sorts, one that every now and then are vocal online and social media. I think creating a black daytime soap, while surprising, when you look at the big picture it makes sense. 

I seriously had to make sure what todays date was bc it felt like it was April Fools joke. Way to go CBS Daytime!!

I just liked theme song as it had hints of the "Take Me Away" theme. I loved the shot of the gyroscope as it brought back the theme of interlocking rings. The shot of the shadowed-out couple was a hint of the kissing couple in the early 80s theme. 

I never got the visual shots though of them walking around a city. That just did not go with the theme at all. 

I liked the closing theme

They could have done it just to get Dan and Liz together as Paul's only real storyline on the show was the Dan-Liz-Paul triangle. Although, Liz had her infamous, fatal fall the day after her wedding to Dan so they didn't stay together too long. But Paul was always a minor character. He always played second fiddle to Dan's story and he was away in Vietnam a lot of the time. They probably just thought he outlived his usefulness. Elsie was also always pressuring Bert to divorce Bill. Even taking her to see her lawyer once and having Bert file divorce papers because Bill was an alcoholic. Which she withdrew when she decided to go back to Selby Flats and give Bill a chance. Elsie hated Bill. Of course, I'm sure a lot of people thought Bert should have divorced Bill but I actually thought the opposite. I thought Bill should have divorced Bert. LOL. Especially in the younger years. In the latter years, Bert turned out to be an anchor for Bill instead of the irritant she was in the younger years. I thought Bill was a fascinating character. He seemed to always be doing the wrong things but those things came out of him trying to do the right thing and denying himself. He married Bert because it was expected when he should have been with a woman like Gloria and, probably, later, Maggie. He worked at jobs he hated when he really wanted to be in the military and travel but felt like he had to be domestic. That's why he could never keep a job and drank so much. He was unhappy in his life but never felt like he could do what would have made him happy because he was trying to do "the right thing". Very misunderstood character. Sorry. This is an ATWT thread and I've spent too much time deconstructing Bill Bauer. I just find the character very interesting. Everybody talks about women being constrained back then because of social expectations but men were too to some degree. 

This was so insightful, thanks for the info about Bill and Bert's earlier stories on GL. Much appreciated and fills in some blanks.

Glad you're enjoying it! The show really rejuvenated itself during this period, I was even invested in the Dylan/Sam/Harley/AM/Blake/Phillip saga.

I am so glad that they are FINALLY utilizing Diane Parrish (Denise) to her fullest again. I never understood why she got cast aside at times when she had delivered at all times since the character's inception. 

That aside, how many Brannings is Stacey gonna screw? She's like the Brooke Logan of Walford. Just going through the family.

It's at a alright place at the moment; though compared to last year it's been better. The show still has it's high points. I'd say delve into it.

LOL as someone who's been watching off and on since the move to online, some us have gotten use to the bad music   but yeah the music cues were downright weird at times.

I wonder if some of that can be chalked up to the exit of Harley Venton's character, Derek Colby? From some of the summaries of GL in 1982 but I can't help but to think Marland had major plans for the character and perhaps Derek and Vanessa were going to be endgame had Marland continued writing for the show (and the show had kept on Derek's character). Pairing up Vanessa's firery vixen character with the straight laced and by the book Derek Colby would've gained quite the following I imagine.

It was brief but I honestly never thought we’d see one of those again.

As unnecessary as the fire was and always will be, today was absolutely beautiful. One of those episodes that really shows you and tells you what soap opera is. And despite Chad saying that the house was gone, I love that it’s still standing and that Tom and Alice’s chair… and the Christmas ornaments both survived!!!!!!!

Even Leo was good in today’s episode. I was worried he was gonna ruin everything but the scenes of him learning the history of the Hortons and the ending narration with him were really nice. This is the first time I’ve actually liked him in years. Goes to show you what writing can do lol as obsessed as Ron is with him, I think we can add Greg Rikaart to the list of people that he owes an apology to.

Didn’t expect to see Lucas either but I’m glad that he was a part of today. As one of the few remaining Hortons on the canvas, he deserved to be there. Hopefully, we get some more visits as part of this storyline and that

And I really enjoyed the flashbacks of young Tom and Alice, starting their family and moving into the house. They got the history of the Christmas ornaments wrong lol but all of those scenes were written and staged really well. The actress that played young Alice really stood out to me. Idk if she watched old episodes of Frances Reid or something but she really did seem to capture the spirit of Alice. 

Just a great episode all around.

And I admit, I teared up when we found out that the Christmas ornaments survived. And when Doug and Julie sang ‘Always’

 I can't wait to watch, it sounds lovely. Love it when DAYS does the family oriented episodes.
