  1. I have started re-watching Passions from the beginning on Youtube.  Do we know if literally every episode of the run is posted there?  So far, I've only watched the first five!  Oh, the nostalgia.  I can say with 10000% certainty that this is my most missed soap opera.

  2. Gay people can be wackos too. TP is doing his usual here - giving you a combo platter, a gay character who happens to be obsessed with a straight male w/o the benefit of giving us either one first. If I were to be confused it would be because I don't know if Jeffrey is gay or is he too attached to Wyatt and thinks he's gay? We've been given nothing outside of Wyatt and those flourescent outfits he wears.

I think Veronica is being written very realistic. She has come too far and achieved too much to be "embarrassed" by a gay son.

Oh, I definitely agree with you on both things. This is just the first "major" character that's been gay on a Tyler Perry production and I was curious to see how he was going to handle it.

And yes, I appreciate how realistic Veronica is written. I was just surprised that Tyler Perry was willing to recognize that.

  3. I'm really conflicted about the message TP is sending with this Jeffrey storyline. On one hand, it's disheartening that the gay character is becoming a possessive psychopath, but on the other, Veronica is clearly being portrayed in a negative light with the way she speaks to him about being gay. I really wish they could salvage his character somehow before he goes to unredeemable territory.

  4. I'm so glad to see this show getting discussed! I had basically stopped posting here, but will definitely be joining in the discussions about this show. Despite his flaws, I have always enjoyed Tyler Perry's work, and I have to say that this show really exceeded my expectations. First off, I am shocked that he included a gay character (I'm really hoping he doesn't screw it up).

But come on--the gay subtext, the shirtless (and at some points, pantless hunks)....is there any denying Tyler Perry's hidden sexuality?!

  5. I love all things Cher!! I really don't get the deal with her new music, though. I love "Woman's World", but this "new album" has been pushed back and pushed back for over a year and even this single has been drifting in cyber space for what seems like forever. I'm really gonna need her record label to step up! My favorite work from Cher was actually on her most recent album, 2001's "Living Proof"...flawless dance pop!

  6. MAN. I am excited and saddened by all of those scenarios. Especially the Kimberly being alive thing...and if they would have had Sydney come back for seven seven, I am POSITIVE the show wouldn't have ended. *sigh* such wasted possibilities...

  7. Just finished the last episode and I absolutely loved it. It was a great sendoff for everyone and I liked where they all ended up. The only thing is that I wish we would have at least gotten guest appearances from Billy, Alison, Jake, Jo...any of the still living characters. For example, I think it would have been great for Billy or Alison to have made an appearance at Peter and Amanda's "funeral". Or I would have even loved a montage of the best moments from the show. Still, I would give the finale a solid A.

I'm so sad that I am done with it!!! It seems so hard to believe when I think about how the show changed over time and how event after event just kept happening for SEVEN SEASONS. *sigh* Guess I'll move on to "Dynasty" now...

Thanks Melrose Place for providing such wonderful entertainment. Even in its weak spots, I would still rank it as one of the best primetime soaps ever. In fact, I almost want to go back and watch the best episodes again already!!

  8. Sadly even though I felt the season started out strong, I have not enjoyed it since about the third episode. There are too many new interns taking up a lot of time that I feel absolutely no connection to. And I also felt like the "Winter finale" was rather anticlimactic when it could have been great with Miranda's wedding. I think that Shonda has spent a lot of this season very into Scandal as that has been fantastic and probably also planning out the end of Private Practice, and so Grey's has taken a back seat. There is just no clear vision right now it seems and the interactions and episode structures are very off. Hopefully it will improve in the second half!

  9. Surely Gwen had her fans, but If what you say is true, how come you think most fans rooted for Theresa? Not to answer my own question, but could it be the way Lindsey portrayed the character? Even with the writing, most of what Theresa did throughout the series was well intentioned.

On a different note, JER's passing happend literally months after Passions ended. Who do you think could have continued writing the show had it continued as head writer, or who would you have preferred?

I personally think Ron C. would have been a good choice to write the show with his comedic style of storytelling.

I can't imagine another writer writing it, but RC would have been a great choice (if we knew anything about him at that time).

  10. Inside the July 6th issue of Soap Opera Weekly 1999, the mag covers the upcoming premiere of Passions and gives an insiders guide. Looking back at the article now, I noticed a few interesting things:

Theresa's description makes her seem like she's going to be a villain. "Longing for a life of luxury, scheming, calculating Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald has her sights set on Ethan Crane... Pilar wants Theresa to be down-to-earth like her eldest son, Luis..."

Frank Lomax, described in the article as "Detective Frank Petito" was suppose to be a main character. I think he was suppose to be Whitney's original love interest as the show alluded to earlier on. That however was scrapped after Chad was introduced and came to town from LA. Frank disappeared.

The article comes with candid photos and a picture of the cast outside of there studio.

I would really like to know what JER's original plans were. Was Theresa meant to be the bad girl that tears apart Ethan and Gwen and be a vixen. Were Frank and Whitney meant to be?

And the biggest surprise for me was, NO TIMMY! The article doesn't mention him so at first I figured maybe this was meant to be a surprise to the audience, but in a later interview with JER, he reveals Timmy was never in Passions bible and only came as a thought while he was laying out the first week of the show. This makes me wonder how Tabithas character was suppose to be without her sidekick.

Oh the things I would like to ask Mr. Reilly.

I feel the same way. He has to have some type of journal or notes somewhere. If only someone would find it one day and make it public knowledge!!

  11. ^ She was on it a fair enough amount, especially towards the end. It only came on four and then three days a week, so pretty much no one (except for Theresa/Ethan/Gwen) were on ALL the time.

  12. Final Season of MP (Season 7) is out on DVD today. Finally! I can have the whole collection. wub.png

I preordered it on Amazon so I should be getting it within the next week. So excited! But also so sad to know that I'm almost finished with the series. :(

  13. Even though it was a little much, I liked the Blackmailer/Vincent storyline for the most part.

My favorite storylines were anything with crazy Beth, the Rome storyline (Vendetta), the "Red" storyline...really anything that incorporated the entire cast. JER did things like that so well.

Looking back, even though it was definitely overplayed, I liked the ongoing Theresa/Ethan/Gwen debacle, especially in the first half of the show (Before it just started getting ridiculous).

Anything with Charity/Miguel/Kay in the first few years was awesome....as with all the other supernatural stuff.

Gosh, there were so many great parts to this show. I know I went through phases with it where I didnt' like certain things, but as a whole, this really was my favorite soap.

  14. The forever title of "Special Guest Star" was to list her last, as that was (and still is, sorta) prestigious to be listed last with special billing. Since Melrose always listed their cast alphabetically, they gave Locklear that special title to keep her from being wedged in the middle between Leighton and Savant.

Personally, I think they should've just ditched acknowledging at the start of the credits that the cast is listed alphabetically, and just had Locklear at the end with the "and Heather Locklear as Amanda"

That would have been better. It just looks silly to have an obvious series regular billed as "special guest star" for seven years.

  15. Random question. Does anyone know the reason why Heather Locklear is always credited as a special guest star? That has not made sense to me at all the entire time that I've been watching these DVDs.

  16. I am now halfway through season 6 and have to say it's not as bad as I was expecting. I don't find it unwatchable. It's certainly the weakest season thus far, but I am entertained and I actually am enjoying most of the stories. I like Sam and Billy and love Taylor's madness. Not a fan of Lexi, but I like Coop and Jennifer for the most part.

  17. Did you get to the "door" episode yet?

Not sure. Is that the one where Michael is at the medical conference and she gives him the "door that will save his marriage" illustration. If so, hilarious!

    I especially loved this bit:

Taylor: Michael, the most amazing thing has happened. I'm pregnant.

Michael: It is medically impossible for you to know that this soon.

Taylor: A woman knows these things. I felt it at the moment of conception.

    She is a riot!
